AI Rejection

A lot of the telling comes from trying to set up the story, showing all the details would take too much time and add nothing. So I wanted to get it out of the way there.
That's always a problem with storytelling: finding the right balance between information and narration.

I only have 25 stories published here, so give this as much weight as you want to. But I think you have to earn the reader's interest before you ask them to engage. You need to give them something that they want to find out more about before they have the patience to sit through other stuff, the stuff that isn't happening now.

I also think that readers are willing - far more willing than we writers often think - to let enjoy an action scene without knowing what's going on in the background. Give them action, give them relatable characters, give them an exciting plot hook, and they'll happily trust you to explain it all later on, after the scene is resolved.

Given the severe case of worldbuilder that I have, I think this paragraph is a miracle of brevity lol

I submitted a story like I have 68 other times with the same process. I write, toss it into Grammarly to edit for commas, remove tautologies, and other minor corrections, then i give it to my editor. He gives me his list of changes and I make the corrections. Then I submit. 68 times this hasnt been an issue. Now, suddenly, my story keeps getting rejected for AI 'rewriting' my work.

I manually disabled all AI features with Grammarly, just in case I was using something without knowing it. I went back to my rough draft and re-edited it, taking less suggestions from Grammarly, and redid my editor changes. Still got rejected.

I reached out to Laurel with admin notes and a direct message here and got nothing.

I am not using AI to write any amount of my story. I'm using spellcheck and an editor. Whatever method of detection being used is flawed. Getting a bland notice that tells me nothing of why my work got rejected does not help me. I understand the reason why a hard line needs to be taken with AI but after 8 years of uploads I think its safe to say I am not some hack with a bot.
I am in the same place with two of my stories. I have them sitting in the sentback folder for over a month now because I am at a loss over what I could change to get them accepted.

I just submitted a new story (that is basically a slightly reworked part three of the other stories) the other day. I am hoping that that story will be accepted.

It will be a real shame if it isn't. I work really hard on these stories and it is beyond frustrating to see them rejected. I am tempted to stop writing these stories altogether.

I have started to post some of my work to another site and have gotten great feedback there, but the audience size is tiny compared to here.

I cant even find a place on reddit where my kind of stories would get posted. Maybe we should make a subreddit for them?

This.

I've posted here before about the importance of writing proper paragraphs. A paragraph isn't a collection of sentences to convey information. A paragraph is a self-contained unit where every piece of information logically ties in with the information around it. It should read like a camera panning over a scene.
Fiction posted to the Internet is looser than that. You can arbitrarily cut paragraph lengths. They don't have to be self-contained as you were taught to do with essays in high school. Dialogue for separate speakers should normally be in separate paragraphs, though (but there are reasons not to do this universally too). Internet posting begs for more white space, and thus shorter paragraphs, than print does.

Again, please feel free to post an excerpt here. May not help, but could.

I hate the thought of having to change my writing style because of this damn AI thing. It sucks. Although I have the sneaking suspicion that even if I do change it in future chapters, it won't make a difference xD Maybe I'm a cynic, but since this keeps happening, it feels personal 😂

I think the process needs to be more fine tuned than anything. Keeping AI generated stories off the site is important, but its just been an overcorrection so far due to how many people are posting about it. If it was just me then it would be a different story lol

"Amy, what is going on? I can tell you aren't telling me everything?" Mel finally blurted out.

"It looks like you need more tanning oil," I said, attempting to change the subject.

I walked over to Mel's lounge chair, seductively swaying my hips, attempting to pull her attention to my body.

"But Amy," Mel responded.

It was clear she wanted answers, but I had none to give. I splashed oil onto my hands, rubbed them together, and brought them to Melonie's tight brown ass, hoping it would distract her.

Mel's bare ass felt divine underhand. I massaged the oil into her skin, making sure not to miss anything.

"You know this doesn't change anything," Mel said.

"Just shut up and enjoy it," I giggled.

I ran my slick hands up and down her body. Mel's tits flowed out of her tiny top, revealing a ton of cleavage as she lay on her stomach. I trailed the edge of her bikini, applying oil to her exposed breasts. Moans escaped Mel's lips as I teased her sensitive skin.

[Please only post brief excerpts of stories to the forum. Stories should be submitted through the normal process. If you need to pass more than 3-4 paragraphs for evaluation, please arrange to do so through private message. - AH Mod]

That was from the second part of the story that got rejected. I don't know what about that reads as AI but any help would be appreciated!

I finally posted my fifth part of my series somewhere else, since it can't be published here due to a generic message. Even though all my other stories are the same style and are fine to be here. Atleast I got some positive reviews on it. It's very frustrating, but I haven't wrote anything since the second rejection. I've lost all motivation.

I re-submitted it a third time without changes, but with an editor's note saying what am I doing wrong? It's been sitting there since the 4th with nothing.

Last year I started writing, I was so excited to share my ideas. It was such a positive experience until December and whatever rule change they did.

what "generic message"?

I felt that way for a while too. I found posting my stories on another site and getting comments there was helpful in reminding me why I write. I write for people to enjoy my work.

Weird question perhaps.
Bard and chatgps refuse to generate porn.
Which are those AI generators that could be culpable or suspected of having generated the submissions?

Grammarly for me. Even though I just use it for, ya know, grammar and other small fixes.

I have "checked" the first story sample in this thread with three AI checkers found on google. All have said the text was written by a human.
I don't know if that means anything, though.

What I don't get is, AI writes like shit and has a lot of problems. It's insulting to think my stories are that bad, the readers don't think so, but Laurel I guess does. Although she used to think they were okay.

Haven’t read it all.

Didn’t immediately strike me as problematic. If you will forgive me, some overly flowery adverbs (which AI loves). One thing struck me was that this sentence was kinda not self-consistent, which is a hallmark of AI.

Without thinking, Mel spread her legs, inviting me to play with her inner thighs. I didn't hesitate to make my move.

How can she invite you without thinking?

Will read more later.

I think making this personal about Laurel is unhelpful. She may be drowning in AI submissions. We don’t know.

I think we all agree that filtering our AI stories is a good thing. And we all agree that false positives are a bad thing. But it’s early days with this stuff. Bound to be problems.

I’m sure Laurel is doing her best.

Involuntary movements. Your body reacts from stimulus before you are aware of it. like pulling your hand off a hot stove before you feel it burning.

She has no brain at all.

But that’s not an invitation. Just saying that non sequiturs are an AI trait.
