Part of the agreement with me moving back in with my mother was for me to go back to college. Ok i made it a big 3 weeks last time but its time to start over. Problem is I have no clue what I want to go to school for let alone what the hell I wanna do with the rest of my life!! HELP what is a good thing to get into right now!! If its anything artistic you are dreaming I cant draw a stick figure!!

They have tests for this sort of thing. What do you do as a hobby? If you're just interested in cash, do IT stuff, it's like a killer necessity in the jobmarket. Go talk to the school guidance counselor okay? The first year you can get by doing general subjects with an undeclared major, so you do have time to figure this out.

thats part of my problem I have no real interests or nothing im exceptionally talanted at!!

look into computers, at least you'll have an excuse for being on your parents puter all the time.

Let me assist...

hey Hunny, I am there right now. Actually I'm in my second year of college. No matter what you want to major in, you have to go through all the typical boring courses first, you know like English, blah, blah, blah. So you might as well get in there and get going on those. You have to have so many credits in them. My major is English, and minor in Broadcast Communications. As for what is hot, I would lean towards anything computer related just because the whole future seems to be heading that way. But I think you should find out what YOU want to do, what you love to do, and go after that. You will enjoy it so much more!

well, it really has to do with two things : money and fun

so what do you enjoy? example if you love water (like i do) you might look into marine biology, etc. like i did,... or cooking- i'm a great cook, and chef school doesn't take that long,...

what are you good at? example i love figuring out what other people think, how they come to their conclusions, what means do they use to realise their objectives, etc. so, i'm going to go to school, and eventually go into psychology.

what do you have a passion for? i know people who are passionate about the way our country runs- they're into politics. people who are passionate about activism- professional activists, you get the idea.

what makes money? those are pretty static,... the biggest job markets out there are related to computers,... i hate it, but that's the way it is. once upon a time the market needed steel, it changes depending on the needs of the economy. other things that make money are lawyers, do you like arguing? doctors, are you competitive and hardworking, and have a strong stomach? :)

so what's right for you? what do you do all time? what is the only thing that has reoccured in your plans for the future? what do you dream about? what do you care about? what makes money?

sit down and think about it, hopefully i have not only given you a few ideas, but given you an idea of how to search your own mind,... :)

Most colleges have aptitude tests to tell you what areas are your strongest. Also most colleges have a Liberal Arts curriculum. Talk to a placement counselor at the college, this is what they are supposed to be there for.

The best thing about college is taking courses in things you've never even considered before. Those required courses can be a drag or an opportunity; you never know what is going to grab you.

You do have a perfectly good, if somewhat underutilized, brain. My advice is to take a few classes that will stretch it. You can get some units and a mental workout at the same time, and have even better equipment for the next classes.

The computer field is really growing and the more you know will benefit you. Especially in this day and age. There are a lot of different fields in the computer industry that would maybe strike your intrest.

well I just took 4 different career aptitude tests online!! Its been a boring night!! Well three of the four tests told me to become an accountant. hmm theres a thought. My major when i dropped out was Finance and International business but I dont have 6 years to waste.

Hi Hunny, what they all said. I hope things work out at school for you. It would be such a plus for you & your daughter. I like my job, but if I had to do it over again, I would take computer or business classes. Good luck whatever you decide, I know you can do it.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Accounting is a 5 year degree as opposed to a 4 year degree. Start out in a business major and take a few accounting classes. I think you'll either find that you love it or you hate it right away. If you don't really enjoy the first courses, switch to something else.

Well we obviously see where Cheyenne stands on this situation!! First Magic, now Accounting, whats next gonna make me get a cat too?

You don't have six years to devote to an education? How about 4? How about just 2? Why say that you 'have' to go back to school? Why not say that you 'get' to go back to school?

How about earning $6.00 bucks an hour flipping burgers the rest of your life? Quit shooting yourself in the foot with the attitude that an education is wasted time. Put that under exercised brain into gear without the self doubts and negative thinking,,, and set a goal that's realistic. One that will give you a chance to provide for yourself and your child.

You can do ANYTHING you want to do,,,I firmly believe that of you,,, you just don't want it badly enough yet. Nor do you believe what I am saying to you is true. Come on kiddo,,, pull up before you crash and burn.

No, it's NOT easy. And if you falter,,, then stand up and start again, not from the begining, but from where you left off. But make a start,,, please, please, please.

NH...

Think of your sweet little girl!! She will always love you regardless but...think what an example you would be making for her by pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and going for the whole tamale!!

You've gotten alot of good advice here so I would only be repeating it to say much more!! But, we believe in you!!! Go for it girl!!

Get Started

As many people have said, just get started on something. Frequently, the first couple of semesters you're taking the core requirements, so it doesn't matter yet what you want to major in/do with your degree, you still have to take the same classes as everyone else.

Anyway, you can always change your mind once you get started. I began college as a math major but changed my mind after fourth semester calculus when I realized math wasn't fun anymore and I wouldn't get to interact with other people that much. I had no idea what I wanted next, but took an economics class, loved it and that became my major. I also found other classes that I enjoyed and wound up with a concentration (almost a minor) in East Asian Studies.

Enjoy yourself!

I spent 5 years earned 146 credit hours, and still no degree. To begin with I was keeping my student deferment to stay out of Viet Nam, then when I found my nich, I was offered a job at three times what I would make if I stayed in school and finshed. Not my best desision. Creamy lady had some of the best advise, along with Cheyanne. Take your basic classes, and one or two a semester that you know nothing about. Its a time to streech that muscel between your lovly ears. I wish I had your oppertunity, not because I would compleate the degree, but because there is so much that I don't know; and want to.

Its not that I dont want to go back to school its that I have to work full time and still find time for my daughter while im doing it. I plan on getting her back before the end of the month!! but how can I take care of her if im never there!!
