Charley, this is ridiculous and a characterization of "everyone" on the GB that's not based on any reality.

It's this sort of uneducated and prejudiced stuff that I've been dealing with since my first week at the AH where I was asking people why they were picking on my friends on the GB, many of whom are intelligent, erudite, and a great deal more educated and tolerant. Certainly having less ego and more humor.

So maybe that's YOUR fear and you're projecting.

I haven't seen you on the GB make any attempt at getting to know anybody there or learning your way around, so please don't attempt to be any level of authority. And certainly don't paint black lots and lots of people I know and I care for and I respect a great deal more than you for their ability to keep their heads in a conversation without retreating into snobbery.

What makes you an authority on the GB? Can you say Bronzeage's responses are all "fuck you?" Tortoise? Oscuridad? Any of the many people that I visit the GB to talk to?

Can you name anybody on the GB except the most obvious of trolls?

Spare me how the AH will descend into the horrors of the GB. I can only hope it learns something.

Oh please, Recidiva, I did my time on the GB way back when and it's not that far fetched. The AH is already the GB, btw, and it has been for a while.

Actually, reading this post, you are the one who is afraid. You're afraid that your opinion on the current political milieu will be relegated to the General Board, where it will get lost in the sea of other opinions on politics or be met with the likes of 'you are an idiot' or 'fuck off'. No one will listen to you there, and that is what you are afraid of. I have no sympathy. I am not American and could care less about American politics on a sex writing forum unless the political issue deals directly with sex or erotic writing.

I am with Crimson.

I call you on that lie, Charley. You've got something up your nose if you are contending that I rant on the political threads much at all. Show me. I find your charges reprehensible (and a little desperate).

Nope. I won't vote in the "official" poll and I don't care what Laurel does. I'd like to see the site management take more interest in the forum and just erase what they think is really, really out of line and an attack on another poster--in the interest of maintaining a healthy board.

The crux of everything I've posted is that the site owners should be taking a stronger hand and interest if they truly care--and that the historical perspective is that they don't. So, just live with what they provide or take a hike. Don't make it all worse by monthly ineffectual carping.

I have repeatedly said I would take more stringent measures than anything the site owners have done--and I campaigned very openly on this two rant campaign cycles ago.

You are out of line, Charley. Stop it, please.

It is that far fetched to characterize someone as fearful that someone's going to say 'fuck you' to their argument. And in this case, sr71plt hasn't struck me as the fearful sort or afraid to deal with reams of fuck yous were that the case. I think they get plenty of that here.

I have respect for lots of people who have taken the challenge to visit the GB for a decent amount of time and then make up their own minds. BlackShanglan cut a swath, FallingToFly hangs out there, Jomar, cloudy from time to time, EnglishLady, xssve...

Even Ogg went over and had conversations until he basically cried off due to his connection being slow. Hell, Trysail has a thread over there and has been part of some great conversations.

If THEY were to say something like that, fine. But I don't see them saying everyone on the GB is brainless. Because they're not and they go there.

The AH leans WAAAAY left.

I concur that the manners in the AH are the same as the GB, only with a spell checker.

But I reject that the content is the same or that everything thoughtful and relevant will be met only with "fuck you" and nothing else of any merit. Or that it's a valid fear of who you directed it toward.

I think it's your prejudice and lack of ability to integrate into a diverse population and I'm saying so.

Look. You are not adding anything to this discussion right now by berating me. Let's get it together. :)

Excuse me? You're the one who attacked. Just stop it. This is the sort of crap that's really pulling the forum down. Just stop the lying to try to box other posters out.

Babe? I adore you. I will see you here tomorrow, or the day after and we can discuss it. Sweet dreams. XOX

Well, I do have to say that attempting the technique of making ridiculous character assassination accusations based on personal projection, refusing to discuss it, saying "Love you babe" and running away definitely won't fly on the GB.

Why you didn't do well there...not a mystery all told.

I wouldn't mind offering a few thoughts, though they may have already been mentioned.

It seems to me that Author's Hangout implies a board for lit authors, otherwise it's just another general board. Most forums let anyone read but require registration to post. It is, as I think TxRad pointed out, trivial from the server side to determine whether someone is an author. Recency, frequency, etc. could also be simply determined but should be irrelevant. If you're a lit author, you can post. If you want to use several alts, as others have noted, they have to have at least one story or poem, so at least it takes a little effort. It might even encourage people to write jut to make a contribution; people like to belong to clubs. If it's not an author's only board, get rid of it; we already have a general board.

The biggest problem is civility, not political discussions. These can be ignored. If you really want to, move them. This will probably be done by Lit and exact definitions won't be necessary; they'll make a decision and may reverse on sufficient complaint, but they will be god in this matter. I can't see that they'll spend much time reviewing their decisions if they actually decide to do this work. And if there's to be a moderator, they'll decide who it is, so why waste time trying to pick one among yourselves.

Clearly, there's a desire to keep the AH: Just look at the number of posts submitted by the few regular contributors. I haven't been here long but it seems from the discussion that the board used to be far more active. Perhaps if there was more civility, those that have left may return. It is in the interest of all the contributors, if they want an audience for their views, to clean things up. I think a better thing to do, instead of removing political threads, is for Lit to enforce civility by temporarily removing and eventually permanently blocking anyone who is continually uncivil. This can be done by a number of complaint reports. It would be the decision of Lit if warning, reprimand or removal of posting rights is warranted; as it is on other forums. And the same could be applied to anyone repeatedly submitted unwarranted complaints.

Great ideas in your post. Apparently, the LIT owners aren't interested in such a solution, which is why we're having this other discussion, which is appearing more and more like a family standing around arguing about changing a flat tire when no one has access to a jack or lug wrench.

Except that half the family is trying to point out that it isn't their car and therefore not their responsibiity or right to fix--and the other half is trying to decide what color to paint it rather than fixing the flat. ;)

Unfortunately, you're quite right.

( as SR has frequently, incessantly pointed out.. damn nag... ) ;)

You're new here, aren't you? :D SR's been saying that for as long as I've been here (which ain't that long! )

Welcome. :rose::rose:

Smaller, and McGee only shows up once in a rare while, but yes.
There are people on the GB who try to carry friendships amidst the flotsam and refuse the way some of us do.

is the poll where i vote to send JBJ to the bdsm forum? or is it the other one...
