AH Reading Club?

We like to talk to readers as well. Or, at least, I like to talk to readers.
So I'm now thinking I’m in the wrong place because I see it is the forum of authors hangout and I’m a reader although would love to be good enough to write. So I won’t be offended if you ask me to leave. When @EmilyMiller suggested the idea I thought it was a great idea to share stories you love, some of which have been written years a go but I still go back to. I actually didn’t think about it being negative only positive but i bow to those of you who write and obviously know better.

All are welcome... Go into the light...

However, if it actually pushes the writer's work, how could one object to that? I wouldn't, and I've never been all that upset being called a bad writer. ... If a person is thin-skinned, they shut off the comments, delete the unflattering ones, or let them stand and realize that there is always bad mingled with the good.
Yeah... I think pick active authors who designate themselves as thick enough skinned that the reaction to being told the story is bad is to ask: but how is it bad?...as opposed to feeling wounded.

This actually sounds like a not shit idea providing all participants agree to abide by the rules of fair conduct. And, like other threads, if you don't like, don't play.

Reckon do this as a thread not as PMs. Try a first one here and see how it goes. If it's a bonfire, then I guess we lived and learned.

I always keep matches or lighter handy.

One of the concerns I have, is that. If the reviews are posted in here as a thread, it would just get hijacked like every other thread in here. Any chance of seriously reviewing a story would be a waste of time.
I may be wrong, and perhaps that is what you are looking for?
If the group wanted to seriously interrogate a story, it would be difficult, in here.
If the intent was just to promote a writer then I can see the logic.

It should be done over in the Feedback Forum, which is precisely what that Forum is for.

I don't think we should start duplicating anything here in the AH.

As above: the Feedback Forum already exists. Keep them separate, I reckon.

I feel it's just to discuss what we like or don't like in a particular story. Perhaps to throw some light on some talent that others might have missed.

Yes, that's precisely the purpose of the Feedback Forum, going deeper into the craft of a story.

Writers can also promote their new stories in the New Story's thread - these threads and forums already exist, do we really need new ones?

I don't see what the big deal is?
That forum is far less frequented than this one, and this idea, as far as I understand, is meant for authors to discuss one story at a time - a story of someone's choosing with the author's full consent. This is the place we hang out at most of the time, while I doubt there are more than several AH members who have a habit of posting something on Story Feedback Forum. More than that, this idea is, BY DEFINITION, discussing the craft of writing which this forum is also about.

Well yes, but why here, when there's already a place over there? ----> Why invent something new when something already exists?

To all:

I suggest a multi-person convo. Won’t get derailed. People might feel safer.

Also think we limit ourselves to stories by members, or stories recommended by members and with the author’s permission.

The intent is not promotion. It is:

  1. Member gain from constructive criticism
  2. Members learn by digging in to what others have done
  3. It’s a kinda fun safe space
Make sense?

It's a start. We don't have to figure out everything from the start, we can adjust things as we go. It really shouldn't be such a big deal, all of this. It should be just something fun to do, probably even something useful to do. Working on our phobia of being reviewed should also be a positive thing ;)

Meant to get to this earlier.

I think it could be a fun experiment, one I'd certainly try to participate in.

I don't read as many stories as I'd like, but I do try and read others work when I can.

And I like the idea of writers supporting writers.

As for the logistics of it, that's something to work out I suppose.
