I don't want it to be moderated. I don't like it when old threads get erased either. They just move far to the back, but they're still there if you want to go mucking through them (sometimes fun).

As to anything else, I just don't think we need a moderator. I love the specialness of the AH being the un-moderated thread.:)

Sorry to rain on your idea tolyk.

I vote for no.

No matter how hard they try a mod is going to piss people off.

At another board I used to frequent I was one of several mods. We tried it make moderating co-operative between us. It didn't work. One frequent poster we couldn't agree on. Half us thought he was a jerk, the others thought he was brilliant. That was the turd in the punchbowl. Now the whole things undrinkable.

I don't think the AH is that bad. Thanks to the 'ignore' function. Because of that, if someone really gets up my nose frequently, I never have to listen to them again.

The 'ignore' function is more useful than an army of mods.

Arr, I should shank the lot of ye. I won't though, I dislike the sight of blood, makes me all quesy.

I voted no, based on Shereads' logic, "Why mess with imperfection?"

However, I'm always open to bribes. And if I knew for an absolute, lead-pipe certainty that the AH moderator would be Chilled Vodka, well, need I say more?

Chilled Vodka for AH moderator.

I was actually thinkig of another character from there. The real estate guy.

I've seen American Beauty so many times I'm under consideration to have a new pathological obsession named for me, and until you said that I hadn't realized those two actors are the same physical type separated by a few decades.

I think I'll watch it again for tonight's insomnia. If the DVD isn't ruined from all the crying and contact with damp kleenex.

Return to your topic. Sorry.

Oops.

Let me try that again. Ricky Fitts makes naked movies with next-door neighbor:

I vote no. I've had my go-arounds as much as anyone here, and I've had my feelings hurt and I've caused some hurt feelings. But as a rule the people here are adult enough not to need policing. And I've had bad experiences with Mods, too. On one board I was banned for suggesting that it was more important to worry about children being used for sex slavery than adults practicing consensual bondage, while on another I was the target of "Shut the F*** up" and a few other choice phrases on a thread devoted to the pictures from Saturn, and the Mod did nothing because the offender was one of his groupies.

I don't want to see anyone here corrupted by that sort of power, or burdened by that kind of responsibility. I'm too fond of all of you. Despite the best of intentions (and I thank you, Tolyk, for offering to do what would be a thankless job), it all too often kills boards by homogenizing them. I don't want to have to worry about sending out an e-mail to my friends telling them I'm not allowed to talk with them anymore, which I had to do once. I much prefer the use of the Ignore function instead of a Mod, as RG suggested.

Agreed. I think a moderator a bad idea, although admitting there is some point on the housekeeping side. The last thing I would want to see attached to the insanity last night would be a moderator being pelted with demands that individuals be silenced, and with the tempting power of doing so. I think it better to let people hash it out themselves.

I disagree! I think Shanglan's last post should be stricken and . . . what? What are you all staring at?

:D

Amen to that. The board becomes an extension of the moderator's political/social agenda, no?

Don't like what's said in a certain thread? Don't read it. :)

I vote no as well. I don't think situations have gotten so out of hand here that we need to be supervised. We can always choose to contact someone at our own discretion if a problem arises.

Regretting the timing of coming? Or of going?

Coming.

You know when you get yourself excited for something that always used to be good, but when you arrive it just doesn't compare?

That.

(I knew that washing machine trick was a fluke!)

Tolyk!!!! I demand that all previous posts in this thread be deleted due to lack of mentioning wholesome gospel music.

Have you noticed the shape of the poll result? Not the result itself, but the shape. It's almost mystical, isn't it?

I voted no but because I know how hard it can be to actually moderate. Tolyk it's not easy love and you'll never please everyone. I know i have to do it on several of my sitesand it'scaused me a hell of a lot of heartache before now.

The AH sorts itself out really...we're all intelligent types who have a bit of a stress/grump/growl every now and then. It's done and then it is forgotten (eventually)

I know you have the AH's good at heart but being a mod isn't nay fun

Tolyk's back! Yay!

I agree that modding for anything other than removing spam probably wouldn't be so great. I do think that removing spam is important, though. It takes up server space and distracts from real conversations.

I don't see how you could mod this forum. there is no central topic that you could hope to keep conversations to.
