Ghost Rider Confirmed For Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4

“When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything,” might be one of the most exciting statements ever issued by Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb. We chatted with Loeb earlier today about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 and while at the time, he remained tight-lipped, we knew all of the speculation about Ghost Rider riding alongside Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) was true because his vehicle is literally parked – draped over with a black tarp – at the Marvel booth of San Diego Comic-Con.

Stay tuned for that unveil shortly!

Gabriel Luna (True Detective, Matador) “will roar into the lives” of Agent Coulson and the team, as Robbie Reyes the unstoppable Ghost Rider, which was revealed today at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

A photo of Luna is below, released by Marvel, and confirming early reports we shared that he’d indeed be playing the Reyes version of Ghost Rider. There’s also a brief fiery skull teaser trailer and the full season 4 logo below… Our apologies to fans of the Nicolas Cage adaptation of the original Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider.

Huh.

Didn't see that one coming! The season ender gave up absolutely no clues to this happening, AFAIK. Have no idea how they're gonna mix this in with the new plotlines teased. But with Ward/Hive, Lincoln and Dr. Andrew Garner/Lash permanently out of the picture to die with Hydra, not to mention the misfire of taking out fave agents Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter for the D.O.A. Marvel's Most Wanted, we gotta crank up the fire to fill in the gaps, so to speak.

Welp, I'm down for it! :D Apparently they're going with the upgraded car version of Ghost Rider instead of the classic bike version, which I had no clue about in the comics, but whatevs!

Since Ghosty is a preternatural being, I'm assuming they're going to somehow tie him into the Doctor Strange movie in November.

Still pissed off Agent Carter isn't coming back. What are they gonna do with the winter break?

Ghost Driver more like....hey, maybe they can bring in a Ghost Chauffeur too. Spirit of Road Rage and parallel parking vengeance. Hey maybe an invisible ghost helicopter...it could be constantly blowing his head out like a candle, that would be a riot.

On an up note, whoever hasn't gone and watched the Luke Cage teaser, I've go three words for ya: Big Baby Jesus! The Iron Fist and Defenders ones are pretty good too...

disney really needs to get the mutant back for marvel and cut the redtape that's locking up submariner.

because fuck ghost rider. ghost rider is fucking lame.

I love Ghostrider but he seems like he'd be a better fit for the Defenders giving them a true heavy hitter both in terms of raw power but also in terms of existing brand recognition. (Though I suppose we could debate Daredevil if you like.) I also think the interactions between Ghost Rider, Daredevil and (be still my heart) Punisher would be fucking epic. You really just need to have a redux of DD S2.

Ghostrider comes to town looking for this guy who killed a bunch of innocents. Daredevil and Punisher manage to stay not dead long enough for Ghostrider to gather new facts and turn his attention to (insert demon, preferably something vaguely Asian and linked back to the hand, possibly even a demon possesed Electra.

Collect checks.

For Agents I think a serious fall out from Civil War would be in order. Especially if you can wrangle Cap and Winter Soldier. A season dedicated to chasing them around could be interesting.

well, you better hope people agree with your assessment of ghost rider, because the ratings aren't exactly great. if they're lucky they'll get to the magic 100th episode, but i wouldn't expect much else if shit doesn't improve.

I actually thought the last season was kinda meh. The denouement didn't grab me at all.

i stopped trying to watch it altogether. i'm just here because i like comic books.

I don't think Ghostrider on Shield is a great idea, so I hope I'm wrong. I would have given him to netflix.

Of course I'm at the point now where I think that Marvel needs to seriously consider shifting gears on their approach and dump Agents all together in favor of a "floating" Marvel television show. I believe that right now Marvel is a sufficiently strong brand where Marvel's (Insert Title here) will do at least moderately well no matter what you slap on it.

Replacing Agents with something similar to the Netflix formula of September- March=Ghostrider, April-September=Blade, September-March=Jonah Hex, April-August= Kingpin of Crime would do fine. One thing I've always despised about American media particularly television shows but frankly our comics do it as well is that instead of telling a story with a beginning middle and end we absolutely drag everything out until it's not profitable anymore. This isn't a knock on Guardians of the Galaxy but I would have been perfectly happy with a similar group just more powerful defeating Ronin, then the movie ending on a downer note that shows just how extreme a threat Thanos is. As it stands we know he's a bad ass either because we read comics/watch cartoons or just know how story telling works. Ronin is the only high level threat we know is afraid of him and while the Comic Guardians of the Galaxy match up okay with the Avengers it's hard to look at THIS GotG and think that the Avengers couldn't knock out Ronin and be back in time for Shwarma.

also, on a sidenote, i was happy to read that inhumans has been dropped from the schedule.

because i fucking hate the inhumans.

The Electric Company Cinematic Universe starts here!

I got my slight reservations, but I'm digging it. Mostly because:

1) MCU's watermark is ALL OVER THIS, fuck Sony's weaksauce :D

2) Queens borough diversity is finally represented, this isn't going to be a completely whitewashed franchise anymore.

3) Mikey Keaton as Vulture. What might've seemed like a cornball villain choice from the comics is given some gravity. You don't waste an actor like Keaton on some bullshit.

4) Not happening here, but betting Venom comes back somehow with his own do-over. One of the best villains ever. There's no reason for them not to go there and I can anticipate them going down the Carnage storyline route.

I didn't dislike all the Spideys that came before this, but this is going to center him properly, at last. It took a while, but we got you back home. Looking forward to Homecoming.

Despite my diss a few posts up, I think the show is better than it's ever been. I think they may have actually broke with MCU tone and split the difference between the netflix properties tone and the MCU. Whatever they're doing....I'm still amazingly not tuning out.

Iron Fist in 2-ish months, ho's. BLAU.

I 'spose I will have to start watching again since I *may* have a wee bit of a crush on IFB and if he says this season is nailing it, I will check it out...

it's rating numbers are lower than community during their last season. cherish it and love it while it lasts and hope and pray it'll still be entertaining a second time around because this might be it.

It charts on social media every week. It's got a solid fan base. They show up and the network notices. And the connection to the MCU is solid.

How much you wanna bet a Season 5 of AOS is solid state? Lose, and you get dragged.

We got a continuity going on, baby. That didn't just luck into itself.

Last night's episode was badass, by the way. I feel sorry for everyone that didn't stick with this from jump. :D
