The age of concent for stories submitted to this site is 18 years.
May i point out that in Britain and many other countries the age of consent is 16 years.

I would politely suggest that this rule is amended.

As a parent of a 16 year old, I would prefer that the age of consent remain at 18. There are so many changes that are taking place emotionally, as well as physically, that being able to control themselves without hurting a partner either emotionally or physically, would be hard pressed.

There is also the problem of teens confusing lust for love. I do realize that there are some adults that have this problem, but to add this to a teen's emotional/physical roller coaster can create more problems.

It would open up to many cans of worms so to speak, especially since there are places where the age of consent is even younger than the 16 years you have proposed.

Just my thought on the matter.

Actually I thought the LEGAL age of consent WAS 16 here in California, at least. But I haven't really thought about that since I was, well, jail bait myself.

I DO know that the minimum age of a major character engaging in sex in a story here on Lit is 18.

I agree with the rule, as well... But there are somethings that bother me with the age in stories here...

How many times do i come across stories with 19-20 year olds still a senior in high school? Obviously, this isn't the norm.. But authors are forced to get around the age rule by doing putting "adults" in high school to play with the paticular fantasy... Granted.. there are definetly cases of 19 year olds in high school... But 20 year olds?

Bah.

Darling, to me you'll always be jail-bait.

Does the age of consent vary from state to state? I don't think so--I think it's uniformly 18 in the US. The age of *marriage* is something else again, but it tends to be revised upwards, not down.

Now there's a question--if a girl can marry at 14, which in some states she can with parental consent, can you post a story about her wedding night?

NOT that I was planning to write one...

Edit: I just looked this up, and to my horror ;-) there are variable ages of consent for different states. In California, it's 18, but in some states, it is much lower, for an average of about 16. This boggles me--both that anyone could think that a 14-year-old girl was capable of informed consent (I've BEEN a 14-year-old girl) and that there is no uniformity. Scary...

lol........

In Utah the law was just recently amended from 14 to 16 for a woman to be legally married. That being said....I think it's very possible to write a story about a 16 year old woman on her wedding night.

You just have to leave out all the dirty parts...........

I remain,

Just a thought

I think that the age of consent should be eighteen. Most definately for stories on lit. Childporn is illegal (let's face it , it is), and furthermore as the father to two small girls I find it disgusting. Yes, I do write some in the incest area but it is strictly in my mind. No urge to cross that line and definately not with an underage girl. I know as a male we all have our little schoolgirl fantasies, the catholic schoolgirls and cheerleaders seem to appeal to us the most as a rule. But, 18 is old enough to play with and young enough to still have that innocence that makes them interesting.
No I am not on a soapbox here just saw a subject of interest and thought I would contribute. Besides if your clever and really want to do a story about a younger girl just dont list her age. Just leave it, she was nearly eighteen, nearly could be a month a year, two years. It is in the scope of the writer to determine how devious you get with this.

I think it's funny that people feel this critical need to mention the age in the story, like it's that important to know. I haven't been than hung up about age since I was...well, quite a bit younger.

And Sub Joe, you make me blush. Thanks for making my day. ;)

You know, I have to agree with you Whispersecret. For the most part age never really applies if you think about it. You can always substitute young, old, middle aged, greying, etc....
Oh, sidenote, I love your how to's Whisper, and I think you are very talented and aspire to write on your level one day.

I do not believe that the question here was whether the age of consent should be raised in the areas where we live but whether the rules of literotica.com should be changed.

This I think should be left up to their lawyers. Those are the guys and gals that know best how to keep literotica out of trouble.

We all enjoy reading and writing the stories here. We would not want to see literotica.com go away because some bureaucrat decided that they (we) were contributing to child pornography.

I thank you, Master.

Heh heh. Typing that made me feel vaguely submissive. LOL

16. No question.

Even though a 16 year old is too young for a 28 year old like myself, you are kidding yourself if you think that 16 year olds do not have sex. You are also kidding yourself if you feel that those 16 year olds who do not have sex, do not want it. At least from a male perspective. I'm sure some females at 16 would make the choice to abstain. BUT, the point is, that is a choice. At that age people are more than capable of making said choice. I agree with the original post.

The original post is unclear. No one is sure whether leighclyde wants the law to be changed or the Literotica minimum age rule to be changed. Until he or she comes back to clarify, no one can really answer the question that was posed.

However, if it's the latter, you're spinning your wheels, even when real life reflects something different. This issue has been brought up many times before, and Laurel has always stood firm.
