Against "Big Government?" Not any more!

I can't say I'm surprised.

The Shrubbies are simply acting in the best interests of their constituents. Who are not poor, disabled or elderly.

Isn't that what democracy is all about? ;)

Just goes to show you, no matter who's in charge, it's us (the taxpayer) who get's to pay for it in the end.

The Shrub did it on purpose. The fucker is doing everything in his power to bankrupt the social services so the government will have no choice but to close them down. Rat bastard.

So you really think he's doing that? Even though government has grown more in the Bush presidency than in the Clinton? Huh!

What the Republicans don't want is all thier hard "earned" tax dollars going back out the door to the people. They've wanted to drastically cut or completely stop government aide to the people since the programs got started, but the bleeding heart liberal Democrats have kept them from doing it. Now they're trying to bankrupt the system so it has to be shut down and all that money can go into stuff they want funded.

That's what I see happening at any rate.

Well the Republicans have had control of Congress for going on 3 year or so, if that's what they were after you would have thunk that they could have done it easily.

As far as Medicare/aid, Social Security goes, those programs have been broke since the Democrats decided that the funds that had been put in trust should be transfered to the general fund. You go to the Social Security Administration and ask to see where the trust that they keep telling you your money is in and when the open the draw, don't be surprised to see a bunch of IOU's.

The city’s mayor, Oscar Goodman, dismissed questions about how marshals will identify the homeless so that they can enforce the ordinance.

"Certain truths are self-evident," Goodman said. "You know who's homeless."

A politician up here ran for leadership of a provincial political party, the one that ruled this province at the time (and I do mean ruled) on a similar platform.

He was going to make the homeless wear 'special symbols', appoint 'special constables' to gather them up and put them in 'special camps' where they would be put to 'useful work'.

"How," I asked, "are the homeless going to be marked? With yellow stars? Or pink triangles?

"How will the constables be denoted as special? Little lightning bolts on their collars?

"And we can tell the camps are special no doubt by the uplifting motto, 'Work Makes You Free' over the entrances."

That man is now Finance Minister of Canada.

Australia is gone conservative and sorta fascistic, too. They were in the news yesterday with another not very pretty story. It's not just yours and mine, but a lot of governments.

The Boomers are scared. And like most scared people are attaching themselves to someone who promises them safety.

How can Canada feel unsafe? From whom do these asses promise protection? The Six Nations? The sight of flag-draped coffins from Afghanistan? The delivery of social services? Are these things so scary?

Drug barons love the gov!

AARP supported this law, too, the twits. Now they are lobbying for a fix-it bill.

Why are they calling it a 'surprise windfall?'

I wish it surprised me. I think I've had my capacity for surprise hoovered right out of me by Bush/Cheney & co. Is there anything they haven't done or attempted to do, to enrich the corporate interests who put them in office?

They're probably imagining that if we'd swallow the "Clean Air Act," we'll swallow anything.
