I'm not going to get into a long discussion on this issue, but I have to put my 2 cents in.

When the Europeans came to this country, they stole land and forced the 'primitive' natives onto useless lands and gave them no rights as humans when forming this country. Then they went to Africa, and stole their natives, and brought them here in slavery.

Yea I know, what does that have to do with today? The coined phrases, as Phoenix states, are to honor the heritage of the races that was stolen away from them. The pendulum is swinging the other way, and giving the different races the respect they deserve.

If you are black, and don't want to be called "African American", that's your choice. If you do, you deserve the respect for your heritage to be honored. Unfortunately, their ancestors didn't have that choice.

I am an American. I respect all other Americans, and honor their heritage anyway they chose to acknowledge it.
