Afraid to post here

I have no fear of posting here or anyplace else.

I don't consider myself bullet-proof, but it seems like the longer the stories are, the less likely it is for someone to go to the trouble of attacking them. The same for people stealing my stories. I make them work for it.

In LW they just go right to the end and 1* bomb.

Again, it hasn't been my experience.

My scores in LW are lower (average of 4.25) than in other categories but I don't see "bombing" taking place or any spill-over onto my stories in other categories.

How do you know this has anything to do with posting here in the Hangout? My impression is that Loving Wives stories of the type you write often get 1-bombed, but what does that have to do with posting here? How can you tell that it's connected?

I don't worry at all about this. I might get some 1-bombs, but it has no impact on my "success" at this site, as I interpret success. I don't see how it affects your success, either, considering you're the 9th most followed author, and your position seems secure.

I like getting a thrill when stories get scores but I long ago abandoned caring or judging my writing by my score. I do it for the love of the game and things have gotten so much better for me.

They do,but these happen as a group of bombers right after I post here. You’re right. I track success by #of followers. The 1* bombing is more interesting than bothersome. I was just wondering if it’s just me who’s the target.

You are definitely not the only one. Plenty of others have noticed this happening. I'm surprised that you would encounter it because, while your LW stories may be objectionable to a certain class of LW readers, your posts here aren't provocative or antagonistic.

I try not to be. I do that on my profile 😁

Don't be afraid of the dark AH. Post and be welcome. If you believe people are skipping to the end to one bomb you, report the story and get it checked. But I think it's more likely to be the LW genpop than someone from here.

Do you find that hangout trolls will go back and 1* your stories after you post here or they just do it to me?
When I (foolishly, perhaps) posted about one of my stories hitting number 1 in the all time top list, it immediately got down voted. Several posters here suggested that was because I'd posted about it here...

(Later, when another went to number 1, I didn't say anything here straight away and it stayed there much longer.)

I don't think it proves anything though.

I had one here, years ago, that did that after making some false assumptions about me. They are no longer here, and I got past it.

Agreed. I usually just take a screenshot, smile, and keep my mouth shut. Eventually the #1 spot fades, but it does seem to last longer when you don't mention it.

Just as an aside, I don’t think that LW readers bomb in the same way as other fora. Sure, they might give you lots of low scores because they don’t like the content, but I don’t think it’s the same calculated nastiness as in some other categories where the bombing is more about hating on the author.

There are 1 bombers; that's why there are sweeps. (According to @EmilyMiller even the sweeps don't get all of them.) But once you get to a certain number of votes, it takes a virtual army of them to affect the ratings much.

I've raised some hackles here a few times, including on the backs of some people with a rather large following and a coterie of orbiters, and I think it got me more spots on ignore lists than 1* bombs.

But I don't traffic in LW and barely appear on the top lists, so perhaps my experience is not very relevant.

I had it happen to me, but just once. Sometimes, when I post a new story, other stories in the same category go up while those in other categories go down (and it doesn't matter which category I post in). But that time, I was in a heated exchange with a few people in two related threads, and it was my entire catalog that took the hit.

I don't think it was you, but somebody else that mentioned it happening to their catalog just a day or three ago.

There's a really easy way to avoid 1-bombs wrecking your mood.

Of course you can just not care, but that's hard for a lot of folks.

Much easier: write and publish stuff that you expect will do poorly.
You mean we could all be confident, not so egotistic, self-obsessed writers who are just happy with their work and not looking for outside validation? How novel of a concept. As we've already established, couldn't be me 😂

I had the same situation. Any hall of fame story.

My erotic free verse Femme and the Fist was at number one of all times and when everyone posted about one bombers, I removed the voting. Anonymous online platforms where everyone has an opinion brings the trolls out in droves
