Advice

Now as for an 18 year old high school student...

Unless she/he flunked two grades somewhere along the way...there are none. Even I graduated at 17 and I flunked fifth grade. (it was an eyesight thing, I needed glasses, did fine after getting them)

Not always true, many students turn 18 before or during their senior year.
And, sadly, many inner city schools have 16 & 17 year olds in middle school.
I used to substitute teach & it was sad.

The school year where I grew up is Sept-June.

So anyone who was born In September through June will be 18 on Graduation Day.

The minimum legal age for a Kinder student is 5 y/o on the first day of the school year.

Therefore, anyone held back has the potential to be 19 y/o at graduation, and 18 y/o during their Junior (grade 11 year)

So anyone who thinks an 18 y/o senior is a rarity is UNINFORMED.

Using Math, the original Math, there are many many 18 year olds in the school system.

In fact, by graduation, there is a potential for the majority of students to be 18 since only students that would be 17 would have been born in Jul or Early Aug.

Use the disclaimer. It's your best bet since this age topic isn't a debate. 18 for sex and they can be in high school.

This RL discussion of age specifics always breaks out in these threads as well. So what? I turned 18 before my senior started while hubby entered college at 17. (Damn, I got sucked into doing it too). Does this give advice to the OP? It might mislead him into thinking this is the way to write stories on the edge of underage. The story gets accepted with a fig-leaf disclaimer (I like that analogy) and then trouble comes. Some reader spots the obscure mention of a 16 year old friend who discusses/observes/enables the sex, reports the story, and Laurel removes it. The circle completes when the author starts a thread to complain.

One thing I'm not sure anyone mentioned is that the author could and perhaps should put a line in the notes field when submitting noting that the setting is high school but all characters are 18+.

I find the whole age thing in RL amusing and I guess it just depends on where you are. I have a January birthday and was put up a grade in school, so I graduated high school at 17 and I was definitely the exception. Maybe not the only one, but all of my friends and acquaintances were 18 when they graduated.

Of course what age folks claimed to have been when they graduated from high school has just about nothing to do with what most writers of "it's got to be 18" here are up to. It's all cynical flak and fig leaves.

The ultimate judge (Laurel) has seen the same arguments more often than we have and knows there can be 18 year old high school students but most aren't. To avoid any hint of underage, directly or on the fringe, she decisively rejects anything involving high schoolers, period.

Not true at all. High school isn't off limits...it's just has tight boundaries.

Below is taken directly from the pinned sticky titled "Rejected story? What does it mean? What now?" in the editor's forum and has been the guideline for more than eleven years based on the original posting date.

Was there an underage (under 18 years old) sexual relationship in my story?

This is non-negotiable and has more to do with site policy than an unrealistic view that teenagers don't have sex. A character can refer sex at an early age (eg I lost my cherry at 14), but cannot describe it.

If your story comes across as pedophilia, it will probably be rejected.

Make sure that your characters are over 18 or at least a senior in high school to fix the problem.

It is unfair and completely incorrect to use a broad brush to paint every story on Lit with a high school setting as some kind of nefarious plot to circumvent the rules.

My hometown school district's birthdate cutoff was 1 December. Among my schoolmates were the Garfield twins, born 20 minutes apart... right at the cutoff. Don was born just before midnight, 30 Nov, and Juan appeared just after midnight, 1 Dec. The school board said, "No exceptions", so Don started kindergarten a year before Juan.

Don was always the youngest in his class and Juan was the oldest. After behavioral problems and a threatened lawsuit, the board changed its ruling -- and held Don back a year. He had 4rd grade twice. Now they were BOTH the oldest in their class, and were pretty mean by then. More behavioral problems. The Garfields moved away midway through 6th grade. I have no idea what happened afterward.

Moral: Beware arbitrary cutoffs.

Note: This happened some decades back. I'm unaware of current rules.

You have officially gone batshit crazy. :D

I do, but in PayDay's case it was a bit of disappointment (with an emphasis on the "bit").

This:

Almost every week an author comes here arguing about real life and a need to win this point to tell their story. Literotica is not about real life. The ultimate judge (Laurel) has seen the same arguments more often than we have and knows there can be 18 year old high school students but most aren't. To avoid any hint of underage, directly or on the fringe, she decisively rejects anything involving high schoolers, period. You have only two choices. Change your story. Post to another site. Your ideas are nothing new. We have no power to intervene.

Untrue.

What it depends on is how quickly the author establishes the character as 18.

If you start a story saying High school then ramble on for awhile you may get the boot.

But if you early on say something like

"While Mr. Gerard droned on about Manifest Destiny, I glanced out the classroom window and saw the red Camry that my parents had bought me for my eighteenth birthday last month. The car was calling to me, telling me to cut the rest of my classes and go for a ride to the beach and....

Not so hard.

Now on the always hot bed topic of 18+ here....

That rule is applied with the same "diligence" as anything else is here.

Each story gets a quick skim and the stories where people are putting "I was 15 the first time I whacked off too...." or "The first time Jack fucked me were only 16....that will get flagged because its easy.

But there are countless stories here where they say 18 or say no age and the character is talking and acting like a child. I have read more stories here where the daughter is screaming pre teen never mind under eighteen it is fucking sickening.

I've mentioned before there is an author who loves to say "budding breasts" tell me everyone, what age do a girls breasts start "budding" Its not 18 that is for sure. My daughters were both in training bras by 11. So couple budding breasts with "does daddy want to make cummies with his little girl" then....

yeah, so anyway this is just another wink wink CYA crock of a rule here. If the site was that adamant about it they would be looking a lot more closely.

If they do not choose to that's fine and ....underage is not actually illegal this is a choice of the site anyway- but like anything else either do it right or stop trying to do it at all.

Well, I was able to get my second submission approved thanks to Serafina1210 and Zeb_Carter's suggestion. With no change to the story, except the disclaimer at the top of it.

I submitted the continuation, the one with the excerpts I asked about, in. Again with a disclaimer and a note to Laurel regarding them. We'll see how it goes and if they need to be condensed further.

Thank you for the help, even if it did digress from the question.
