I am in the market for a new PDA and have found that over the past few years that they have really evolved!

(no, I am not referring to Public Displays of Affection, lol ;) )

Can anyone give me recommendations as to a good brand? I would like to stay in the under $150 range.

The basics are really all that is needed as I really use my PDA as a planner. Computer compatability/backup is needed as well.

Any and all recommendations are welcome. Thanks!

Here is a good set of tips for what to buy from PC World.

When you have read it through, here is bizrate to buy it from.

I would look at Palm IV or newer, but they are a bit more than your $150.00 so I don't know if you want to go higher or maybe buy on ebay second hand.

i've had good luck with my handspring visor, but that's a discontinued model. the palmOS is pretty darned reliable. handspring was bought by palm and is largely responsible for their line if treo communicators. for the price range you quote, the zire line might be interesting. of course, they can probably be found for cheaper at bizrate, per ezzy's message above.

syncing is very easy w/ this OS. w/ what do you want it to sync, though? outlook compatibility is a given, of course, in any PDA.

I'm on my third PDA, and I'm very happy with my Sony. Most people seem to have great luck with Palms, but I've had two of them die on me. It's true that there are some real bargains on eBay, but educate yourself before you jump into that market so you know what you're bidding on. And make sure everything you need is included, or at least factor it into your bid if you need to buy it seperately.

If you really only need a very basic model, Palm is making a very inexpensive one now, but my advise would be to go a step above that and you'll be happier down the road. At the low end, watch out for models that require batteries. That's a real pain; you want a rechargeable.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the great advice.

I think I am more conscious of everything that is available now. Only thing left is to decide what I want/need and how much I am willing to fork out for it!

Anyone have a PDA w/wireless internet access? Is it good? I am considering one with those capabilities but, still patiently "looking"

Thanks again for all the responses :cathappy:

wireless internet? that can be pricy. given your target price, i wouldn't think you're gonna find anything, but i'll poke around, see if i can find anything. my last understanding was that feature is available only on units in the $300 range.

I know....not in the price range I originally quoted but, with all of the great advice and links.....the wireless internet option looks pretty cool. I guess more of a "want" than a "need" (which I am trying to teach in my business class at the moment, lol)

Maybe I would be better off with just a cheapy PDA and fork out more money for a new phone.....I'm not sure. I am just looking right now.....seems the more I learn, the more confused I get, lol. ;)

Thanks again for all of the valuable feedback, I appreciate the help!
