I was in minor car accident about eleven days ago and my car is totaled and I had not broken bones or cuts.

But my back hurting so bad....
I have been working almost my whole life...going all the time and now I need to stop and rest. I am having a great deal of difficult doing that....
so if you understand how that is
would you offer advice on how to rest?

Thank you,
Batchoohus

Sit in a soothing warm tub. Soft music, no lights, candles. And just let yourself relax. Sink into the tub, and close your eyes. Having a glass of champagne with you will help too. Good luck

i like relaxing to the sounds of enigma

good idea using specific music
can you describe what their music sounds like?

am going to take a bubble bath and listen to my Celtic music

it is great you can use it to relax and meditate or some people meditate with dancing in slow moves it is various sounds not really specific it uses your imagination it can also be used as great love making background i use it now to meditate when i get mad or stressed or to help make sure im relaxed to sleep good, i used to use it to draw pictures when my imagination was in use and not in reality world. It has a good soothing beat to it there is some words in some of the songs but the cd i have has very little it has mixed sounds in it not just music hard to explain but i love it

How do I relax? Poorly!!

The hot bath is a great idea - soothing music is a plus. Celtic music depresses me - something like DeBussy or some Mozart would be more up my alley, I think.

I guess they got you those muscle relaxer pills to relieve the cramping from muscle spasms. If they didn't, see if you can get a prescription. I take Flexoril - non narcotic - for my neck cramps when they start resulting in migraines, and it works. Will make you drowsy, though.

Some light stretching my also be in order. Start slowly - don't overdo.

Try to find something, like reading or movies, to occupy your mind so you don't get restless.

Hope this, and the others, helps you. Remember that this too shall pass - it is only temporary.

there are four essential components of a relaxing evening

1) teenage sons out of the house

2) steaming hot bubble bath

3) scented candles

4) bottle of chilled wine

oh..

and 4.1) no phone calls

:)

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.

I have only been prescribed Ibruprofen 800 mg every eight hours. I feel that I need more.
I have been laying in bed watching movies today.
and reading.
I shall find out about getting something to help with the spasming.

Batch,

This all sounds like you've gotten some really good advise.

A warm bath does wonders as I see you've already found out.
If you can't have some wine or anything with alcohol...I nice cup of hot cocoa sometimes does the trick for me.

Also...concentrating on the actual relaxing of each muscle. I've found when my back begins to spasm if do the stretching like MBB was saying, and then I lay down in a semi-confortable position, close my eyes and start at my scalp. Concentrating only on that...willing the muscles to relax...moving down...thinking only of each individual muscle as my mind moves downward...to the neck...shoulders (those usually take awhile for me)....taking as long as each spot needs, never moving on to the next muscle until I feel that complete release of tension. If I don't feel the release happen in each muscle...I take slow deep breathes...letting my mind will the oxygen through my bloodstream until it reaches that particular area. I even form the mental image of it happening....anyway you get the point....scalp to toes....taking however long I need. Once I finish with my entire body...I stay that way...only listening to my breathing and focusing on my heartbeat. I don't know if this will work for you, but it's a suggestion.
Good luck

wow
said softly and easily
thank you Sorta...
I will try this also
what I am finding out is that I already knew all of this and had let the knowledge slip away and lost it...
for a while
thank you
for giving this lovely gift back to me...so nicely wrapped

Hope you feel better soon....

Batch,

Though I have never met you. It seems you have gotten a lot of good sounding advice. I was going to mention to you a Celtic CD, seeing that is what I found helped me a couple of weekends ago. I also have found pure nature sounds, not ones with music in the backgrounds. A nice rain storm is one of my favorites.

If the spasms get worse tell your doctor. It is your right as a patient not to be in pain. Especially when one is told to relax for a few days.

Take care and hope you feel better soon.

Batch...

The 800mg IB will help reduce any swelling and can be taken more often than what is prescribed on the bottle...

The best relaxation for sore back muscles is hot shower sex :)

Works every time for me...

Batch,
May I recommend a massage (from a licensed massage therapist) and/or visit to the chiropractor. Be aware Flexoril can be addictive per my wife's doctor so take in moderation, if it is prescribed for you.

Ocean waves are good for relaxing and those CDs are out there fairly cheap.

Also adding to what Sorta said, you can tense a mscle group and then relax it to get it to relax more. Be careful if you are having spasm however as the tensing might trigger one. A method to stop a spasm is to hit the muscle. It might turn Black and blue, but you interupt the short ciruiting nerves.

Good luck.

Great relaxation components.... Just don't think of her AV while attempting to utilize them!!!

:rose: for Tracee

Q: what's the best way to rest and relax?

A: get addicted to Lit...then you wont have to ever worry about doing too much work around the house or at the office!

Ok seriously....when I really really need to relax, I make my little brother go away, I put on my meditation CD, and I "tune out" everything else around me except my breathing and the sound coming from the CD and then I meditate, similar in a fashion to what Sorta described in her earlier post, accept I really focus on breathing....in and out....slowly.

The other thing that relaxes me...seriously...is tanning. I go about once a week, if even that, but I think there is something about the warmth and the fake rays that really does relax me...whenever I leave the salon, I always feel incredibly relaxed but refreshed too.

To rest, well Im a big time napper and Im one who likes to sleep in. I also love curling up on the couch watching a movie or reading.

Hope you feel so much better soon Batch!!!!!!

I went to my chiropractor three days after the accident. They tried a massage the second visit..but ouch i was too tender....we are going to try again on Friday morning and they are liscenced massage therapists...
i used to live by the ocean...a long time ago...i like that idea ..i will search out ocean sounds...
that hitting the spasming muscle works...i push really hard into something solid and it goes away...

thank you for your ideas
