Specifically, for bisexual stories.

If a bisexual story contains M/M contact, and it is put into group sex, it gets one bombed by those who think it should be listed in the gay category.

If the same story were put into the gay category, it is derided for containing M/F sexual contact.

Is it possible to add a new story category to Lit? If not, how about suggestions for where to put a story with a MMF threesome, containing both M/F and M/M contact, that will not upset quite so many readers.

Thank you,

We've discussed this subject a few times here at the AH and I think we've even contacted the site admin. about it. Feel free to pm Laurel and make the suggestion. Perhaps if she hears about it enough, she'll feel the need to add a bi category.

A lot of us who write bi stories would love to see a bi category. Not only would it make things easier for writers, but readers too. As is stands, it's very hard to sift through the group stories to find bi stories if that's what you like. Until it happens, I'd recommend trying to make your story description as clear as possible to note that there will be bi contact.

Personally, I've never had a bi story that was posted in group be flamed for having m/m contact. That may be because I've always tried to make it clear what the reader was in for in the description. :)

I'll PM Laurel and make the suggestion, thanks for the tip.

I've had a very hard time finding bi stories to read, trying to sort through the categories is daunting.

My story description could have been better, I'll remember this next time. I have received some very hateful feedback due to the M/M contact in my story.

Sorry for the bad feedback. Most of the bi-stories involving M/M are, not surprisingly, in the gay category. "Bi-guy explores gay side..." is that what you're looking for?

Men and their issues! You can re-write your description, and even add a forward, if you want- re-submit with the name of your original story and EDIT in the title. Add a note explaining why you're editing, and they'll replace the story, without changing your hits or votes counters- at least, new readers will know, even iof the old ones didn't

Such a pity. I hope it goes better in the future. :rose:

Thank you :)

Most of the feedback was indeed positive, which was good to see for my first submission. I certainly did not expect everyone to fall in love with my story, and I am the first to admit my writing needs improvement. Reading the public feedback and seeing "die faggot" and "kill your wife and go be gay, that's what you really want" does make one pause.

Excellent suggestion, thank you. I did not know this was possible.

Good heavens!

I also have been aggravated by the difficulty in finding group stories that include M/M contact. I like reading them but it is just too difficult to sift through all the stories to find what I'm looking for.

Can I suggest that you put a link to your story in a sig line so we can easily find it?

I saw that feedback... awful

sorry you were the brunt of that... don't let it get you down...

ArtisticBiGuy and I have often discussed the murkiness of the catagories listed -- since most any kind of story (erotic couplings, BDSM, Fantasy/SF, Group Sex) can be written for any orientation (Het, Gay Male, Lesbian, Bi). It seems that people search for stories based as much on the genders and orientations of the characters as on the "kind" of story it is.

I imagine, though, that it would be hellish to re arrange the existing story database by orientation, although that might solve a lot of problems for readers and writers.

Go to your submissions panel, go to "veiw submissions" click on the live "feedbacks" link, and remove the hate mail.
eff that shit!

I imagine that would be a HUGE undertaking. Perhaps if the new category were added, if authors would want their story moved they could re-submit it into the new category instead of the moderators having to wade through the archives to move stories themselves. Of course, authors new submissions would go into the correct category to begin with.

Not a chance, I write for me first anyway.

I did remove the hate mail, last night. Only to receive hate mail for removing said hate mail. <chuckles> A never ending battle it seems.

I'm beginning to think turning off the public comment board on future submissions might be a good idea.

Ugh! What nasty comments. I'm sorry you've attacted some trolls - sounds to me like they're moving over from "Loving Wives," where they're something of a legend. Best of luck on swaying Laurel and Manu to make a new category, and as others have said - don't let a few unpleasant fools get you down too much. There are many very pleasant and interesting people on Lit as well.

That's awful. I just took a look at your story and plan on reading the rest. It amuses me when bad feedback comes for a story where clearly from the first two paragraphs you can tell there will be m/m stuff. I had this happen when I posted a mmf story in the incest category. The person who complained to me detailed all the "sleazy gay" things that were in the story all the way to the end. If it offends so much, then maybe they should STOP READING IT. I think they protest a little too much. ;)

I don't allow anonymous comments, which seems to reduce the number of bombs dropped on me. I figure anyone who really wants to slam on me can make up a name to do it under.

Right now I've got a story that's getting very good ratings and I'm just WAITING for the slam down. I know it's coming. I just expect it. It's the nature of the venue. It might be someone really doesn't like the story, which is fine. And it might be that I'm a newcomer in a catagory with established favorites and I'm seen as a threat. I dunno. But I know the slamdown will come.

Ssssh, you're going to jinx yourself. ;) Some categories don't get trolled so badly and you can actually stay up for a while.

I hope very much that it doesn't come, but if it does, trust me - it's not personal. It's not even because you're new. I've been here going on two years now, and they're just shot poor "Will" again. It happens every time it hits the top ten. There are just some people who are so competitive about their ratings that they are willing to stoop to that. Take it as the mark of honor that is it; it's essentially a confession that they can't out-write you. ;)

so- delete miss high-falutin' peggytwitty's comment too.
And the anti-shitpacker's as well...
In fact, whenone of my stories started turning into a flame forum, I just deleted every single comment that mentioned the controversy, either pro or con. I was left with two comments that addressed the writing itself, and not some asshole's opinion of whether women should be "boyish" or not

Bi-Lit definitely needs its own category. Will it get it? *shrugs* Who knows?
