Achievement Unlocked: Workaholic

I think I figured it out... top 250 is driven off the number of followers you have, regardless of stories. I got all excited for a minute, but yeah, looking at the wrong count :)
Oh, you're talking about the Top Lists. I never look at them - they're dominated by old accounts, IIRC, writers who have been here for donkey's years.

There are two lists. One is a list of authors ranked by how many followers they have. The other is a list of stories ranked by how often they've been favorited.

130k words here since I started writing again in Jan. Sometimes it just flows, yannow? Other times it takes me ages to get to the point where I want to write something.

Given that 130k words is not-a-bad novel size, I probably should've put that time into something else, but hey. You write what you want to write.

Exactly. Sometimes, like Nike, you just gotta do it.

Having those moments when passion grips you and putting it down feels more like a continuous release, that completion leaving you both accomplished and with no idea what to do... I have written my series over an entire month where I did practically nothing else. A month that slid by in a moment. Now I'm waiting for that passion to come back and do it again.

And based on my metrics, I'm destined to hit the top 20 authors on Lit!!!... on 4th June 2033.

That's a long time to have to keep your nods up.

Or I write an incest story.

When you make your calculations, you have to take into account that everyone else is gaining followers, too.

Silkstockingslover is the number 1 most followed author, by far, with over 40,000 followers. In 2017 she had about 20,000 followers. There's a certain "rich get richer" effect here because the higher on lists the more visibility and views you get, which begets more favorites, and so on.

In September 2018 the number 250 most followed author had 1485 followers. As of today, four and a half years later, the number 250 most followed author has 2521 followers.

But just keep writing and publishing and you'll keep moving up! "Just write" really is the best advice there is here for just about any goal you want to achieve.

It makes sense that number keeps going up as few readers unfollow authors, but I’m surprised the 250 baseline has grown by over 1000 in 5 years…I committed to getting there without any IT or LW stories…hmm?
