Luisa was uncertain about the offer.

It wasn't just that she had had bad experiences before, and not that she wasn't curious about the man, despite his Belkan roots.

"...about how we ended up here..." he'd said.

She didn't relish the idea of talking about her past. So many friends lost, her first wingman burning to death in his cockpit before he couls punch out. Her last wingman killed while evading the Tunguska's missiles when its partner nailed his Gripen with a burst of cannon.

She recalled watching as if in slow motion, the holes stitching a line from the engine cowling to his wide canopy...

She shook her head to clear it and, having regained her composure, looked to Miranda.

If Miranda wasnted to go, Luisa'd be damned if she was going without someone to watch her back.

Besides, maybe it'd be better if they went as a group, rather than give the potential gossip-mongers the wrong idea.
