Ok.....I need help!

I have an awards ceremony to attend that I am also speaking at. I have a plain black dress but would like to dress it up a bit.

I'm thinking loose knotted scarf with a pattern (not too bold or bright) and some jewelry.

Any other thoughts to dress it up a little more?

:)

CFM boots with a stilletto heel and silver tips

Hmmmm, silver tips? They would match my jewelry.....

Not sure about the cfm with a stilletto heel. This is a school event after all!

in my opinion, you shouldn't add much to the black dress and just keep it classy with some pearls or like a silver and diamondy looking necklace or something... just like 1 piece of jewelry

How do you plan to use the scarf? There are so many ways to tie them or drape them ---

I also like the less is more approach as rosebud mentioned.

Instead of a scarf you could have one of those woven shawls with just a few beads woven in to dress it up, and if the dress comes down over the knees then the boots would be ok. Otherwise the simplicity of one or two pieces of jewelery is nice. Just match your shoes to your bag and you'll be right (that's my motto).

I go with the "less is better" theory too. I have a nice diamond pendant that I wear and I get more compliments on that especially when I wear it with anything black. Combine that with a simple coordinating bracelet and sensible shoes. Heels are OK, but not too high. CFM's are not good at PTA meetings, town functions, things like that...not if you want your opinions to be respected. Save them for the club when your plan is to go home with "Mr. Right-For-The-Night."

If you have something important to say, express it clearly, and smile a beautiful smile (and I'm certain that you'll do all these things) no one would notice even if you wore nothing at all.

i don't know how you do your hair, but perhaps a hairpin might be nice. also, a brooch or something of that sort might work if it isn't covered by the scarf.

Agree with the less is more theory. Contrasting jewelry works great against the black.

Thanks for all of the responses everone!!! :rose:

Ok, less is more. *check*

I do have a lovely diamondy (ok, cubic zircony) pendant. Perhaps, I will wear that.

I was just trying to spice it up a little....the cfm boots may be just a tad over the edge for my *cough* image! ;) You are right KarenDee....too "clubby." Although, I think PG13 was just teasing me :)

Cate, I was thinking of a loose knot or a broach (thanks ed). Of course, my SF mind can think of several uses for the scarf after I get home  but, that is fodder for another thread...

Thanks yank.....I hope I don't get too tongue tied. Smile, be pleasant, enunciate, and BREATHE! I still get nervous at these things! Thankfully, I will be wearing something......lol!

FoxxyGypsy, I wish I had one of those, that would be pretty. (something to add to my Christmas list!)

Eeegads scalywag! Did you have to bring up the pumpkin dress? (as I glare at it hanging on the door!)

I used to have a black and white scarf that I'd were with a black dress. I'd tie it loosely and hide the 'tails' inside the folds - the knot was the decoration.

I'm definitely of the less is more mind set.

When is it? Where will it be held - hall, restaurant function room? Will there be a dais are you setted there?

I need to bone up on my knot tying!

I like the less is more.....but, the dress is fairly plain save for a v-neck and a slit up the side ;)

It is next Wednesday, at my school's theatre (school is only 5 years old, awesome theatre). It is a fairly large theatre (for a school), seating around 480. I will be speaking from the back of the theatre in the beginning and then moving up to the stage.....hiding behind it when I don't have to speak.

Thanks Cate! Ooooh, you got me all excited there for a moment; thought I was getting a present in the mail!

Teasme, I will be in the audience looking for every movement of your hand, waiting for you catch my eye staring thru your dress.
