Acceptable Male Desire

I grant it is far more common for men to physically threaten and intimidate women than the other way around but to say that the other essentially does not exist is to deny many people’s reality
I can attest to that but it is very sexy to have a knife flashed at you or to have it pressed against your throat. I did trust her but in the back of your mind is, maybe?

Yep. I'm pathetic. Thanks all. 2 1/2 years of struggling. Not belonging to a group of writers clique, not noticed by other authors, hit and miss by readers, teaching out and no one responding. Some community here at LitE. I'm trying to establish relationships with other writers. The wrong way? Maybe. It's not your rep, it's mine. Remember that as you insult me.
If you are hit and miss with the readers then it comes down to what you are writing and where. Readers are your audience. Authors themselves can be relatively fickle. (Maybe not the right word) And according to comments many are not avid readers themselves. They write what they enjoy to write not what they like to read.
I took a quick look at your story list. I saw several references to Orcs, which tells me you are probably putting your submissions in the wrong category. You need sci-fi/fantasy for that. As soon as I read elves, goblin, orc, etc, I shut it down. The story might be the same using the coed from next door and her bully of a boss, but using those fantasy characters automatically excludes my readership.

In one way men have it easier than women do. They can bare their chests in public with impunity in most places and most circumstances. Women cannot.
Yep, but women can bare their asses and get away with it. Just look at the tiny cropped daisy duke shorts. I go on cruises often. I see thongs on women who have ZERO business wearing one. But they walk around proudly, bare buns exposed in the buffet line during lunch with maybe a hint of a coverup to obey the rules. I'm talking asses that look like they ate the swimsuit bottoms.

Now I am wondering about the male 'desire ' idea here. Is that what a man might get away with, or the orientation of many of the stories offered?

All I took away from that was that you can go on cruises.

I'm not sure I understand. Have you never seen fat old dudes wearing skimpy little swimsuits? We must be going to different beaches.

Also if I ever work up the courage and stop going to the gym, I'm going to be one of those guys lol

There probably is an interesting conversation to be had about how society shapes the way the genders are allowed to tease, flirt and brazenly come-on, where those lines are and what happens when they are crossed both in the real world and in erotica. I don't think we're getting there in this thread.

My younger brother went to jail several times because of this, and he's the one that called the cops the first time.

But, when it comes to exposing yourself, the double standards exist for reasons that have very little if anything to do with DV.

Sadly true, one of my brother's good friends only avoided prison because his ex made the mistake of attacking him where the doorbell camera could record the whole thing.
Even after his lawyer showed the DA the video they were extremely reluctant to drop the charges and still tried to convince him to take a plea deal, and absolutely refused to do anything to her for lying and filing a false police report.
There are plenty of shitty, abusive men, but that shouldn't exonerate shitty abusive women.

It would require people to acknowledge that there are pro's and con's on both sides. I don't think this place is capable of that.

Falling short is what we do.

It is a matter of what people, in particular the opposite sex, find appealing. The fact that men are inclined to want to see an attractive woman exposing herself whereas woman are far less inclined to want to see a man exposing himself comes down to what the beholder finds appealing.
I think this comes closest to an explanation of the different responses. And I don't think the different responses are "unfair." They're just facts. Men and women are different, and people of both sexes find an exposed female familiar and an exposed male unfamiliear. Watching naked people masturbating doesn't cause a response based on those people's desire, it's a response based on their exhibitionism. Maybe in a few generations we'll be more familiar with male exhibitionists... dunno.
