As Election Day gets closer, the border crisis is coming into focus in TX.

“Gov. Greg Abbott's lead is widening over Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke, according to two polls this week that show Republicans gaining ground ahead of the November midterm election.”

“The latest data indicates that energy around that ruling may be overshadowed by Republicans' intense focus on border security, including their more recent efforts to bus migrants to Democratic-led cities.”

“The poll also found that Texas voters consider immigration a more important issue than abortion.”

A long awaited expression of common sense.

With the myriad of challenges facing the country, inflation, lay offs (recession), illegal immigration, energy shortages, etc. individuals that are determined to vote their genitals are the very definition of the "low resolution voter."

Abbott’s numbers would soar if he sent a busload or two to Trump Tower.

The poll is legit, but there is one important qualifier here. They define "likely voter" as someone who has previously voted in a MIDTERM election before. This is generally accepted, but does not take into account a potentially significant anomaly this year: the flurry of voter registrations that took place after the Extreme Court disregarded its hallowed "stare decisis" doctrine and permitted blanket abortion bans by the states.

Going to be an interesting election in Texas, methinks. Republicans are going to have to go hard with their "Block the Vote" initiatives.

The numbers don’t seem to indicate the SCOTUS Dobbs decision is having much of an impact registrations.

Total registration in TX has been hovering around 17.2 million. In the 2 months after Dobbs, 309K people updated their registrations or registered for the first time. A bit of a spike (1.7%) but not hugely surprising in the heat of election season.

If Texas women are energized over Dobbs, it’s not apparent in the registration numbers. Just under half of the the registrations were women. That’s on the low side considering women represent about have the population and have been outnumbering men at the polls in TX over the past decade or so.

Abbott looks safe but anything can happen I suppose. I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Angrina won’t be voting in the state.
