...the second Prohibition is on it's way...

A town in Florida (where else?) has just been flashed onto our TV screens saying that people will be unable to get a job with the City if they are smokers.

The name of the place is Temple something or other...

This regulation covers smoking in the privacy of your own home, behind locked doors, and at dead of night. The city is relying on the honesty of staff to say whether they smoke or not(?).

Without going into the rights or wrongs of the situation don't you think this is carrying out ant-smoking legislation to an extreme? Not to mention the draconian measures aimed at destroying the personal rights of the individual.

Perhaps the next thing on the agenda will be Smoke Police especially instructed to sniff out out any law breakers...

And to think when I was a lad my family was to going to emigrate over to you...whew! lucky escape....

Nope..the news item is on again as I type...

The name of the City is Temple Terrace.

Actually, no he's not Angel. You can get SSI for illegal drug addiction, but you're pretty much a criminal if you're a smoker.

Power to the extreme leftists!

Smokers are evil, didn't you know? They kill people with their second hand smoke and assault us by forcing us to breathe their fumes. So sayeth the guy with four cars, three boats, and an oil refinery.

Political correctness sucks.

Quit smoking, the prices are going up. Excise taxes!!!! yay.

Oh stop it, you're getting me smoking hot. That's illegal in parts of Florida and California.

Just about everything is illegal up in here, but you can smoke while you're doing it. In public even.

You can smoke and ride a motocycle w/o a helmet, but if you are not wearing a seatbelt in your car, that is probable cause for whatever! Except you pretty much cannot smoke in Johnson County. The pretty people do not like it. Now when you hit the Wyandotte County line, you are handed some smokes and a membership to the Democratic Party.

Question: What do the communists and Republicans share in common? They are both actively courting rich people! SO now the Democrats are isolated on the left and the right in their hatred of the rich! ;)

I thought this thread would be about the British attacking us or something ("If they (the British Army) invade us, I will do the proper thing and order the police to arrest them" Otto von Bismarck) Just "Yank" ing your chain, friend.

Seriously, though, I see smoking rights and gun rights and even the God-given right to wear a seat belt or not as the same issue. A group of people decided that they want to force their way into lawabiding people's private lives. They take away these rights by intense social pressure and there seems to be no way to fight them. We are stumbling and fumbling towards 1984, bit by bit.

And don't just blame the extreme right for this sort of thing....example, the extreme right wants porn illegal because it is immoral, the extreme feminists on the left want it gone because they say its degrading. When the extreme right and the extreme left figure out they have more in comon than they think, i.e. controlling people's lives, then we will all be in trouble...

Go to the Hun's Yellow Pages...

I think it is still all floating around there. :)

I'm not worried, the ACLU will be all over them if they aren't yet. That is unbelievable.

PP Man, this little town in Florida dosn't represent the whole country. I am pretty confident this will get thrown out.:p

This is a non-issue. Stuff like this happens everywhere all over the world, but most often in the land of Rights where people live to legislate. I don't even think it will get to the ACLU, a first year law student with dyslexia could bury this in the smallest county kangaroo court.

Don't think for one moment that any American will allow anyone to tell him what he can or can't do in his own house with a legal product.

What harbinger of doom for America are you going to trot out next? The village in Vermont that still has on its books a "No Eating Turtles on Sunday" law from 1824?

They already know it. They just won't admit it and don't want the great unwashd masses (you and me) to know and understand the fact you just stated.
