I dont have time to visit Lit that often anymore but I thought I would leave you something to contemplate on.

In light of the many perversions and jokes we send along to one another for a laugh, this is a little different:

This joke today is not intended to be a joke, it's not intended to be funny, like I said, it's intended to get you thinking.

*Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding the attacks on Sept. 11 ).

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events, terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained that she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave. The school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued (there's a big difference between disciplining, touching, beating, smacking, humiliating, kicking, etc.). And we said OK.

Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents. And we said OK.

Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said OK.

Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. Agreeing with them, we said it doesn't matter to me what anyone, including the President, does in private as long as I have a job and the economy is good.

Then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of nude women and call it wholesome, down-to-earth appreciation for the beauty of the female body. And we said OK.

And then someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then further again by making them available on the Internet. And we said OK, they're entitled to free speech.

Then the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence, and illicit sex. Let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes. And we said it's just entertainment, it has no adverse effect, nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their class mates, and themselves. Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace. Are you laughing?

Funny how if you forward this, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just ignore it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!

Are you thinking?
Feel free to comment as I shall check it as often as I can.

In reference to the Anne Graham quote, I'm sure you've just c&p'd this from somewhere else without doing any fact checking, because Snopes pretty well has a different story : See here.

For the rest of it, you should be aware of the Post Hoc fallacy (just because one thing follows does not mean that the first thing caused the other.)

But that wouldn't be any fun now, would it?

DK; I checked your snopes reference and while the Graham quote isn't verbatim, it conveys the same meaning.

Lots of food for thought in William7's post.

Maybe. The point I was trying to make was that I simply hate reading things that have apparently just been clipped from a chain e-mail without any authentification. If someone actually takes the time to check their facts I tend to give a little more credence to what they're saying.

As for the rest, it may be food for thought, but it's junk food, in my humble opinion.

one of the biggest thing america claimed, which I thought was the smartest thing the americans ever did, was seperation from church and state.

you cant blame that policy for september 11th, for columbine and other schools, for random suicides and murders. as our population grows, just like the more people you have living in the same house, the more tension it creates.

alot of terrorists do what they do in the name of god, anyways. how do you know god isnt siding with them, and not us? until you talk to the fellow, i think it would be unwise of anyone to presume upon the rationale of any divine being.

and Silva, I wear a pentagram , and it hasnt left my neck for 5 years. not once. I live a happy and fulfilled life. I have great friends, and a marvelous life. leave that out of it.

Funny how people think a fictional character has control over their lives.

The omniscient, omnipotent Christian god could only allow something like this to happen if he wanted to. It's your dogma, not mine.

I think maybe the Christians leave out a word when describing their god.... Omniverous.

thank you lasher, for having a mind *shakes your paw*

Funny, I've always thought of Jesus as a military zealot from the middle east, ( I could whip out my senior thesis and rip off some quotes to back this up but I'm too lazy). I laugh my ass off when people who worship him go off on the behavior of other zealots. To me, they're all a bunch of ignorant, mythical being worshipping, nutbags. The masses, gotta' love them.

love contradictions in relidious argument

Clinton whips it out and Bush's administration reaps the benefits?
Church Lady impression: "Isn't that special?"

Of course you also realise Al-Quida is rampaging the US b/c of a religious war... so, God is on whose side?

You know, I saw that movie recently, Crazy As Hell... the devil guy said something that I'm reminded of right now: why would the devil hate sinners who he's supposed to love by condeming them to suffer?

In fact, why do people search for the devine influence in everything? If it's devine, then you cannot perceive the logic there, so it's a doubly fruitless search. Find your reasons, but make them count at least; say we deserve this because of our past foreign policy, that the school shootings are because of the lack of control teachers are reduced to in the schools, because we are a nation of immigrants.. something, anything would make more sense. *sigh* I just feel sad for people who feel the need to preach. If you believe, I am sincerely happy for you because you supplement a void which I fill with contemplation and reflection. Good luck in your search.

The Almighty finds it neccessary to do things in his public and official capacity which in his private and personal capacity he deplores"
- (Supposedly some Church official, long ago, explaining the doctrine of infant damnation. Applicable here as well. And funny as hell, unless you actually believe in said doctrines.)

As a person who is studying Sufism, I find the above concept of God very misleading. When she said "God is deeply saddened by this..." it is as though we're saying that God has got no control of what has happened or what is going to happen.

Muslims in general believe that whatever happens here in this world, happens because God wills it, and we do not know his design. The events of September 11 was a blessing in disguise.

I generally respect all religions for they preach love and peace. Its some of the adherrents who strayed and preached their own types of radicalism. Even as a young boy, I was never particularly fond of Billy Graham's style of preaching. His son and daughter leave much to be desired in fostering interreligious harmony throughout the world.

I distrust people who thinks that they know much about God's motives in this world, and I suspect that in reality they are more pseudo in their learnings.
