A Trillion Dollars

That is staggering. And we (the US) have spent almost twice that amount since September 16, 2008 trying to fix the economic woes

I found it rather staggering and easy to relate to. We always hear big numbers but it's hard to understand exactly how much those numbers are. I thought this explained it rather well.

Actually spent it? Or declared that it could be spent? There's a difference. Even in America it takes a pretty long time to actually spend that amount.

Geez, that might make an old capitalist salivate....uhm, was that the right word?

Cute.

So when do we decide paper money is worthless and go back to making coins out of gold?

It's only been backed by faith in the Govt. since FDR took us off the gold standard, you actually thought it was worth something?

I think we should go back to some more vintage economic standard. The Vestgote Vikings used oxen. In some parts of the world, it was salt.

Oil is also the 21st Century's currency of power. Those who control the supply of oil, control the world...and they do. ;)

Think how big a tank of Oil would be to be a Trillion Bucks!

The problem with using commodities to back money is, substitutes exist for the commodities.

There are places in the world where they use big fucking rocks dropped into the ocean to back the money. Its better than a bank and immune to pickpockets and burglars.
