If law enforcement was what it should be it would not be necessary anywhere.

The right to shoot people by baring arms leads to the gun culture you have in the US. The arms race you have between civilians and criminals in the US makes no one safer or even feel safer. Shoot first and ask questions later.

I am sure there are lots of gun related accidents too. Hand guns are incredibly dangerous to untrained people or even trained but complacent professionals.

I do believe in the right to defend yourself and property against trespass but it is an inescapable fact that if the criminal suspects you have a gun he will come 'tooled up' and prepared to use it. I expect it is a lot more effective to keep a German Shepherd dog in the long run.

go for it!

Ah come on petey out with it, why no little petey's running about? ;)

firing blanks is not necessarily a bad thing.

I am Petey Appleseed.

Countless children from coast to coast with wicked slapshots and a love of titties.

I can't decide if I should be horrified or laughing. At the moment I am laughing that was just so perfectly timed. I can't stop. :D

Yes it is hard to type and laugh.

you think americans will ever get gun-weaned? it's so ingrained. same as the auto.

Not just in the US either, though really guns are nothing more than a dangerous way to say my dick is bigger than your dick. Well mostly at any rate.

is that why the usa doesn't want Iran to have nukes? :D

I do not think it will happen. It's a strange mindset and people who seem perfectly sensible on other matters get completely silly when talking about guns.

When they talk about their guns, the meanings of words change. Everyone except armed robbers and hitmen say their gun is for self defense. The plain fact is that one can not defend themselves with a gun. A gun can only be used to attack another person. That person may also be attacking you, but a counter offense is not the same thing as a defense.

In the same way, "the right to bear arms" really means, "the right to return fire." All an American gun owner wants is the sure knowledge that he or she can shoot back at a person with a gun, or someone they think has a gun, or their wife, because if "I can't have you, ain't nobody gonna have you, bitch."

The chopping the head off of the tired wife thing sounds cool.

Shush petey or I'll just mosey on over and chop off a different head. Two can play that game and us gals got the advantage. :p

And the brits think that is a good idea?
america having nukes frightens the shit out of me too. i was quaking in my boots on 9/11. thank goodness for Blair and his moderate approach

(now there's a cat amongst the pigeons :D:D:D)

pretty much so, i'm thinking. but lots of americans don't have guns. and maybe if i lived way out i might appreciate the sense of control owning a gun gave me. even here, farmers have shotguns in case of loose dogs causing mayhem amongst a herd of pregnant sheep. I won't make the same kind of judgements I used to when younger about this stuff - I've not lived there, in that kind of culture, but in the back of my head the same reaction's still there whenever i hear of gun accidents or schoolroom massacres :(

Quiet or ye shall be drawn and quartered!

Now that's some olde tyme Brit non-violence!
good-oh!
there's plenty more where that came from :D

Not really.

Nuclear weapons is just like gun culture but on a different scale. I did compare gun ownership with the arms race earlier.

Just because I said gun culture is bad I did not mean that if I could be the only one to own a gun to defend myself I wouldn't jump at the chance.

Maybe that makes me a hypocrite but it is human nature.

Big time mega hypocrite. Besides you keep doing it, you bring logic and sense into a forum, really shouldn't do that. I do it on occassion and usually get ignored but I don't care. ;)
