So this is a thread for genuine reflection and debate about political issues - any topic, any challenge
But it’s dedicated to a genuine exchange of views without insults, so this one can stay focused on the issues themselves, rather than any ad hominem stuff
So
How to tackle disinformation?
What to do about Gaza?
Why has politics become so polarized, and is it improving?

Call it out with corroborating sources.

Two state solution is my preference. It requires support from all parties, which it has never had and may never get

Why has politics become so polarized, and is it improving?
Primary voting has led to very few extremeist voters deciding on the candidates. Add to it that most of the debate on the floor is older show.

We should enact open primaries with ranked choice voting to combat it.

Yeah well said on each point - and ranked choice is such a good idea, it would make such a difference

Combined with an open primary, it eliminates the stranglehold by the extremists. Unfortunately the technique is opposed by both parties because it removes quite a bit of their power. The weaker party would support it while the ones in power are likely to oppose.

Most Zionists support a two-state solution. The problem is--and always has been--that Arabs refuse to accept anything other than the eradication of Israel.

Yeah true. Though it works perfectly in Maine. And it’s got a bit of a presence locally. If it could become more normalized for voters, it could become difficult for the parties to resist

Hopefully the people of Alaska will vote to retain their open primaries and ranked choice voting system. It’s under threat:

Here’s a few good reads that might help inform and instruct:

What to do about Gaza?

Something IS being / HAS been done about Gaza - both diplomatically and militarily. We have little choice but to see how things play out. The U.S. can’t (nor should we) command Israel and Hamas to stop fighting and return all hostages and prisoners.

Why has politics become so polarized, and is it improving?

Politics has ALWAYS been “so polarized”, and it’s really no better or worse today, imho:. The primary cause of the PERCEIVED increase in polarization, (imho) is due to Trump having given the sociopathic / psychopathic racists and fascists (Trump being one of them) permission to take off their hoods and openly wave their confederate flags and swastikas - and there has been a reaction by anti-racists and anti-fascists to that.

Does that ^ indicate an increase in political polarization, or simply an exposing of pre-existing political polarization???

🤔
