Reality is subjective.
For the OP I Really agree that Incest is just another form of sex and it is not something to be shunned or criminalized because to consenting adults have every right to live the type of life that they feel is best for them. However I would have to say that just like one night stands and sleeping with multiple people (together or in multiple relationships) Incest should be treated as something that you need to be prepared for because having children from incest is very serious and does not only effect the two adults involved.
For the Post above I have to say that your argument is flawed in many ways.
First when your argument that "stories in the "taboo" category" are vanilla porn, you are not talking about incest in real life and therefor basing your opinion on a fantasize environment where you can judge the path of events as they are laid out in front of you. Real life incest does not follow a set series of events like a story does and has many small details of a day to day life that builds into the events that will lead to incest and can not be judged by outsiders that are not living that life.
Second when you say that incest is a "non-con fantasy, and real-life incest is abuse" you are inherently deciding that your beliefs and the beliefs of those you you place your trust in can universally speak for any and all people and that anyone that feels differently are profane and some how disconnected from reality, however people and life are not that simple and any kind of events can not only make incest consensual at different times in history they were necessary for human survival.
Lastly when you say that incest can never be consensual because "there's an inherent power imbalance" you are assuming that life and the relationships in a family are a power hierarchy and every family has to fall into the roles you designate for them, This is no only a very old fashion and dangerous way of thinking it is also insulting to people that do not have a traditional family or live a traditional lifestyle, there are families were the children hold the power due to the parents not being able to parent or the parents fear of upsetting the children for example.
Finally I will have to agree with you about the fact that incest that is the cause of "conditioning" or "manipulation" from a one relative to another due to their own desires, wealth, motivation, and/or planning is abusive and non-consensual because it is one person using their strength to control and alter another to suite them. In my opinion a situation like that can not truly be called insect because it has no meeting of the minds between the two people involved, its incest by definition but that definition is based of a very narrow mindset. In the same way that children come to their parents to learn "where baby's come from" or teens show get the "birds and the bees talk" knowledge is not harmful and once a person is fully informed on a subject then the decisions that they make on that subject are theirs and not something that society has a say in. That is where true incest happens, when two adults are both aware of what it means to commit incest and how it will affect them and the people in their lives but still choose to have the experience then there is no harm and outsiders can not understand that decision or experience until they go through it themselves.
Sorry if it sounds preachy or anything but having had incest with a few members of my family I had to struggle with this for a long while until I accepted that just because a naked women walks past me its still my decision to mount her.
