Katrina walked to the courthouse her black boots clicking loudly to her ears as she walked in. Even after tons of cases she still got that small fear of losing. She had lost her share, and rolled with the punches. Ten years later she was the almost partner. Life had been unpredictable at best, and she debated the case with her usual calm passion.

Opposing counsel didn't even look at her twice, as the case began. When she left the courtroom to wait for the ruling her throat was dry. She went to the bathroom and glanced at her plain appearance. Her make up was simple and neat.

When the day was over she was worn out, going home to a warm cheerful but empty home. She took down her long dark hair letting it cascade over her shoulders. She hit her answering machine. Three messenges, the first from her mother asking how she was doing and if she was seeing anyone special. She shook her head and zipped to the second one, someone at work checking in to see how things had gone and if she had time for another client. It was the third message that surprised her, it was an old friend asking if she felt like going out tonight.

She picked up the phone and was going to call work or her mother, but found herself dialing her friend and agreeing. Later she was searching her closet for something to wear, the only thing was a little black dress she hadn't worn in years. She slipped it on, it was a little snug but it would do. She snagged something to eat and her purse and then she was off to meet Claire.

my intention is that opposing counsel would be set up on a blind date with my character

Being a woman lawyer was hard enough in today's world, but even harder for a lesbian. Dates were almost none existant since if you dated and were scene your so called peers would do damage to you in the court.

They couldn't be beat by a pussy eating dyke. No one saw Anna's outter appearence when they thought of her with another woman. They would see the bitch that she tended to be in the court room.

That is why she took the offer to go out with friends. She would go out, enjoy the night, and who knows, maybe meet someone cool that understood her.

The lawyer opposing her today was a tight wench. Her hair all rolled up and neat. It was amazing how she never looked at her after the first time. She pretty enough, but that didn't matter in a court room. She would win, and send the girl crying and on her way home.

But when she went out, it was a different story. She curled her long red hair, put on her make-up and put on her slick red dress her father had given her for "that special someone." She hadn't worn it yet and still had to take the tags off.

She was walking through the door when she saw that lawyer with Claire. "What is this? No one invited her here." She thought to herself as she walked up to them.

"Sorry I am late." she said to Claire. "Hope you didn't mind. I had something to work on." She exclaimed totally ignoring the other lawyer.

*Hope you don't mind. I thought I would make it a little fun before we got together.*

It took me a few moments to recognize the stunning red head that greeted Claire. She completely ignored me and I felt an odd tingling in my stomach as Claire introduced me, "I'd like you to meet my old friend Katrina. She is also a lawyer." Claire stopped speaking as she noticed the pointed stares between us. I held out my hand and tried to smile politely but found my tongue darting out over dry lips.

"We've met," I murmured as we stiffly shoke hands. She looked far different from earlier I thought and odd thoughts danced through my head at the contrast from her earlier appearance.

"Really, well then let's have some fun," Claire seemed oblivious from the tension between us and I finished off my drink and wondered how this interaction would affect our proffesional relationship.

We sized each other up a bit and then we were all dancing, as I let the lawyer inside take a much needed rest. I wondered how she had met Claire as our eyes clashed as we were still trying to figure the other out. I wondered why I hadn't seen her before, and why I had been so quick to judge her in court.

The other lawyer, who I sooned learned was Katrina, seemed sorta shocked to see me. Perhaps this was not a planned meeting.

"I am sorry about being so rude, I just have never met my opposing team outside of work. Unless of corse they were going to plea." I smiled as I ordered a drink from the waitress and sat down.

Taking a good look at her she had changed her hair. It was wonderfully beautiful down. I wondered why she did not wear it down at work. Of corse I knew. That reminds the men that we are women, and they don't trust our work any better.

"Is there any way you can forgive me?" I teased before realized that I was flirting. No one said she went 'my way' but it came out before I could stop it.

I said it before I could stop myself, "Nothing legal," I found myself thinking of all the sexual practices that were illegal. Not that many were prosecuted until it came to a rape or sexual assault trial. I simply smiled and wondered where the butterflies in my stomach were from. Claire said we should all be dancing and I smiled and shrugged my shoulders. Who can deny Claire anything she's like a force of nature. It's no wonder two of her friends are women lawyers. I tried not to think of opposing counsel as opposing counsel. Or her comment about plea bargaining as we moved on the dance floor. It was kind of crowded such that our bodies kept touching. It was an odd sensation yet I felt no need to apoligize to Anna.

Anna

Soon we were dancing like old friends. It was not as if we were in a court room arguing who's side was right or wrong, but as if we had always danced close with out bodies touching.

I forgot who I was with and the fact that if I touched too much she might acually tell the board and I would be talked about. Gossip was nothing in my mind at the moment, only the soft sensation of her skin touching mine.

We were the only two in the room at one time and it seemed to be going great. Of corse there were other people around us, but there was not the closeness of bodies like Claire and Katrina and I.

"I uh, have to go to powder my nose." I said, laughing, letting the alcohol finally reach my system a little. "Do you guys need to go or do I go alone?" I asked. I was really hoping Katrina would come and I could maybe get to know her a bit more.

Katrina

I nodded, alcohol had that effect on me, besides I wanted to get out of the press of bodies for a moment. Claire seemed content to go back and order another round of drinks. I found my hand resting on her body as I followed her through the crowd. I felt strange and alive, there was something hidden about her. The lawyer in me was determined to find out the truth as we finally reached the restrooms. Luckily there was no line and they seemed to be almost soundproof.

I wondered where the night would lead, and I hoped that our working relationship would not interfere with our becoming better acquainted.

I walked to the rest room with her, a little tipsy as is. Walking into the stall I tried to bring up a conversation. "So, how often do you get out of the courtroom?"

Stupid! Anna, just stupid! Why would you bring up the one place you are supposed to be enemies? That was bright! I scolded myself. "I mean, do you get out often?" I tried to cover. I really was enjoying my night, and didn't want to ruin it any way at all.

Katrina

"Well I'm not one of those workaholic puts work before health types." I feel as if I'm defending my career choices, and in a bathroom none the less. "This place is more of Claire's thing. I prefer to unwind in a hot bubble bath with a good book." I felt a little defensive and threw back a question. "How often do you let your hair down?"

Let my hair down. What a way to put it.

"I don't much. I have secrets that the boys on the board would love to throw in my face every now and then. I do agree with the bubble bath, though my jacuzzi is my passion. Maybe one day you can stop by."

What was I saying? The alcohol was really affecting me.

I started washing my face. "What brings you out here, besides Claire? She can be so demanding!"I joked tyring to hide my embarrasment.

Katrina

"Well we all have our secrets. The board is so stuffy I think they'd have a collective heart attack if they knew of even a fraction of the sex lives of the members of my firm." I chuckle as I reapply my burgundy lipstick. "I think it's the lure of a perfect kiss that draws me to places like this. Just the idea that perhaps I'll enjoy one minute of warm, soft liplock, it destroys my brain cells." Not to mention her knees and melting other parts of her body.

"What the board doesn't know won't hurt them," I jokingly say as I brush past her on the way to the door. "Think Claire is flirting with a dozen testosterone filled admirers yet?"
