A small way to make a big difference

I mentioned this before in another thread. Jane and I have adopted soldiers from this organization. Sadly, her first soldier died in mid-December from an IED. She has since been assigned another one.

There are many ways to be active in this organization. And it doesn't have to cost a lot. Jane also sends cards, weekly, to injured soldiers, for instance.

And it takes very little time to make such an impact on another's life.

The following is a portion of an email I received from them this week:

WE HAVE MANY MORE HEROES BEING SUBMITTED THAN ANGELS JOINING

We really did good at Christmas. Heroes Love to be adopted!
We got this quote,

\"Your organization is highly coveted and recommended by all. Is it possible if we can be added to the Soldier\'s Angels program. We\'ve got a lot of young soldiers who are experiencing difficult times for their first deployment, and external support from our nation\'s greatest supporters would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.\"

It is wonderful we are able to help with morale.

Will you adopt another hero?
Or will you please cantact your local churches,
schools, hospitals, Scouts? Many of our sons and daughters are in harms way and could use some support from home!

It really is cool, I think. And like i said there are so many other things that you can do aside from adopting a soldier. They have sewing groups that make things for them and then there's the "card to the injured" thing.

They do call you and verify that you are who you say you are and that your motives are good. It takes a couple days for this to all come into action but once it does, it's so worth it.

When Jane's first soldier died, she got several sympathy cards from people in the organization and a gold medallion, too. It was so nice of them. The day she found out she sent me a text message from work that he had died. I messaged her back that as bad as she feels, multiply that by infinity and that is how his family is feeling...

It really is a good and upstanding organization. I wouldn't reccomend it otherwise. ;-)

Well, I signed up. I know my soldiers name, but I haven't been contacted by my mentor yet, so I'm gonna wait till then to write him.

Oh, not a problem. I've kinda looked for that kind of thing, but it didn't pop up with what I typed into the google bar. Frankly, time I have. I'm also have lots of experience with writing letters, during jr high and high school I had between two and five pen pals (and I never stopped writing - they did). I'm gonna forward this to my family, maybe they'll adopt a soldier, too.

I would really be interested in doing something like this. Troops all over the world need as much support as they can get.

However, I'm from the UK, can international people join? Or of you know of another organisation like this in the UK?
