A Second Chance

Daniel

Daniel was listening to the music with his eyes half closed when his nose caught a whiff of soap, shampoo and cleanness. He raised and turned his head and spotted Mel standing next to him, wearing a robe and all pink from the hot bath. He smiled at her and tried to say something but she was faster. Moving to the front she said, "Well, I'm off to bed. Just wanted to wish you a good night. Night, Daniel and thanx for everything."

This said she bent down and surprised him by kissing his cheek. But the kiss wasn't as surprising as the sight that presented itself to him from the opening of her robe when his eyes rested on the visible parts of her breasts. Two soft globes of rosy flesh proudly pressing into the soft fabric of the robe left little to imagination and Daniel felt himself blushing as much from her kiss as from the sight of Melissa's bosom.

So shocked he was he barely noticed that she left him and retired to her room. Daniel smiled to himself but felt his face burning. For a moment an image of Mel slipping out of that robe flashed through his mind and left a long-lasting impression.

Me slipped her robe off within her room, making sure her door was shut and slipped into bed with a sigh. Usually she didn't sleep naked, but she felt too good to want to confine her body to pajamas.

Instead she lay there, the dim light of her bed side lamp the only light visible. She sighed softly and ran a lazy hand down her body, closing her eyes. A soft flush had already graced her body...this one not from the bath, but from the sheer thought of Daniel and the soft kiss she had pressed on his cheek. She licked her lips, wanting to taste him. The feelings were sharp and surprising. She'd never felt anything quite like it...not even with Michael, which made her feel even more guilty. After all...she'd always liked Daniel in her own little way...even if he never let her in, but now he had...and to her he was even more appealing and attractive. It left her warm and tingly. Especially when her hand made contact with the warm wetness of her sex.

She gasped softly and canted her hips up to her exploring fingers, biting her lower lip. She hadn't had sex in months, hadn't even thought about it or wanted it and now her body felt as though it was in hyper drive. Aching, needing, wanting release.

With a free hand, she fumbled with the drawer of her night stand and finally opened it where she produced a slim blue vibrator. It wasn't overly long or thick, but it did just the trick. Flicking it on, she listened to the familiar hum that became muted as she slipped it under the blankets and pressed it against her clit.

With another gasp, she bite back a moan of pleasure as the device sent chills and thrills all through her body. Legs spreading, she flexed her muscles and arched, her free hand gently squeezing her breasts. Losing herself to the fantasy, she murmured out Daniel's name and shudered as she keenly saught out just the right spoke and then smothered her cry of pleasure behind her hand as her orgasm crashed over her with amazing swiftness.

Exhausted, she lay there panting and tired, finding enough energy to turn off the vibrator before rolling over and falling right to sleep.

Daniel

Soon after Melissa left Daniel went to his room as well and took a long shower. He was feeling strange and hoped that water might help him clear his thoughts and order his emotions up a bit. But he was still terribly conscious of Mel's presence in the house. He felt tense and the image of her breasts gently swaying underneath her robe suggested that she had been completely naked underneath. Dan felt a surge of blood and struggled to calm down, suppress his feelings and emotions, clear his thoughts of that returning image that appeared each time he closed his eyes.

Sighing he turned the water off and driest himself with a towel. Pulling on pyjama pants he crawled under the sheets and fell asleep with a smile playing on his lips.

It was a hard night for him, however, as he was constantly waking up, dreams of Melissa waking him up, so terribly real, so tempting and compelling. Each time he sat up in his sheets grasping at the fleeing image, dissipated by his waking mind and making him conscious of hard, throbbing erection in his pants.

Monday morning came in a blurr for Mel. She woke up happy and warm, took her time getting ready to face the day, slipping on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt tucked in along with a casual pair of sandles. She left her hair down and flowing and cooked breakfast for Daniel who seemed to have gone out again that morning for his run. They spoke casually, but Daniel looked tired, so she didn't pester him. Instead around 9 in the morning, she told him she was going out to get some groceries.

"I was thinking about heading to the store. It'll take probably a few hours to get everything and drive there and back, so if you want to come, that's would be great. If not though, you're welcome to do whatever around the house. Just remember...what's mine is yours." She said.

Grabbing her purse she made sure all was in order as Daniel seemed to ponder things and finally looked up at him, swinging the bag over a shoulder. "So...what will it be sir? Going out or staying in?"

Daniel

Daniel woke up in the morning tired and grumpy, he didn't sleep well, constantly woken up by erotic dreams and his body ached from moving so much in his short moments of sleep. He brushed his teeth and putting a track suit decided to move his body a little to shake off the nasty mood that seemed to have lodged itself in his marrow. Running didn't help him much but at least that awful aches disappeared. When he returned home he tried not to show his displeasure with Monday morning too much and not bark at Mel. Daniel took a quick shower and decided not to shave today, he felt bad and whenever he felt bad he didn't feel like shaving. He put on beige cargo pants and a red t-shirt with Lenin's face on it.

Dressed and a bit refreshed he joined Melissa for breakfast and of course noticed how great she looked in jeans. She had just about the perfect shapes in all the right areas to wear jeans, her hips and thighs hugged nicely by the material. And the t-shirt she tucked in showed how slim her waist was.

"Nah, I'll go with you. I have to make sure you buy the right stuff for dinner and pick the right wine and ingredients for a salad. I'll have a smoke and be right with you, Mel," Daniel said with a smile and tried to be as cheerful as possible even though looking at her in this sexy outfit only reminded him of the hard night he'd had.

Mel smiled and nodded, "OK...you go ahead and I'll wait for you." She said and watched him leave. Once he had stepped out, she began cleaning up the kitchen. With plates stacked in the dishwasher and all counters and table wiped clean, she adjusted her purse and went to sit in the living room while Daniel finished up his smoke.

Through the clear glass of the door she spotted him standing out there, blowing a steady stream of smoke out and sighed. It really was a nasty habit she thought, but didn't really care right now. She studied him in silence, surprised that again she felt the tingling awareness of rising need. Pressing her thighs together she shook her head. Goodness...what on earth was wrong with her!?

Daniel

Sipping coffee and smoking Daniel tried to relax and get rid of the tension that returned when he noticed how sexy Melissa looked in her outfit. He deliberately was taking long, slow puffs of smoke to calm him down but the breathing exercise with a smoke in his lips failed completely. Sighing he killed the cigarette and finished his coffee.

"Mel, I'm good to go, Mel!" he called from the hall and slipped the cigarettes back into his jacket and took the empty cup into the kitchen. "Do you want me drive today as well or do you want to be in control yourself?" he asked with an uneasy wink. He felt that such teasing might be a little bit off with the perception he had.

Mel smiled, "You can drive if you'd like. I'm not much for driving...never have been. So you can take control." She said with a light laugh and stood up. With purse secure she tossed Daniel the keys and started for the door.

The trip to the store and car ride to and from were filled with idle chit chat. Daniel seemed a bit out of sorts, but Mel just assumed that he was just tired. She didn't pry or ask him what was wrong...and by the time dinner rolled around, he seemed to be to his usual self. They laughed and teased each other through dinner. Mel pestered him in and out of the kitchen and outside by the grill where he threatened to poke her with a the large grill fork if she didn't leave him be.

She grinned and giggled and promised to behave, but couldn't help still giving him a hard time until dinner was finally ready and they were settled outside on the patio set. It was a lovely evening with warm weather, but a cool breeze. Mel sighed and sat back after finishing off her steak and vegies and grinned. "I'm never cooking again. That'll be your job from now on." She teased.

Daniel

Mel was slowly beginning to be a pest and Daniel seriously considered poking her with the grill fork. She was all around teasing and giving him cooking hints and trying to improve the tastes. For a while he thought of binding and gagging her to stop her from buzzing about but thought what the hell and tried to pretend he wasn't in the least bit annoyed. He couldn't be angry with her though, she was so merry and natural in what she was doing that he was laughing inside and was quite happy to see her so carefree and relaxed.

The dinner came out magnificently and Dan was very satisfied with the taste and colour of the steaks and was proud of himself. He was afraid to mess it up after the delicious apple pie he had done the day before. He smiled at her, full up and without a care on his mind.

"I'm never cooking again. That'll be your job from now on," Mel couldn't stop teasing him in a manner most merciless.

"Oh, fine," he sighed. "If you don't mind eating apple pies and Russian stakes all the time... That's about as much I can do without burning the house down or bringing down an earthquake," he joked. "I'll bring us a piece of cake. Just a sec."

Danny got up and from the fridge fetched two pieces of his apple pie and some orange juice. From his jacket he took his cigarettes and returned outside.

"Here," he said handing Mel the cake and juice and sat in his chair lighting a cigarette.

Mel took the pie and juice and grinned up at Daniel as he took out a cigarette and lit it, drawing in and then blowing out a puff of smoke.

"Thank you...perfect ending to a perfect meal." She said sweetly and began to delve into the pie, chewing slowly and thoughtfully as she let her gaze wander over the yard.

"I think I'll be ready to sleep after all this food. You may have to roll me into the house though...my jeans feel a few sizes too small." She joked and giggled into her juice as she took a sip.

Daniel

Daniel pretended to look at Mel critically from the side of the table and made a hard-thinking face. He blew the smoke out and sipped some juice looking as if he were pondering some serious problem. He coughed a few times and rolled his eyes.

"What?" Melissa asked with a light smile.

"I was just checking and I think you're wrong. You're about just the perfect shape. I like what I'm seeing," he said with a serious face.

Smiling back at her he pulled on his cigarette feeling his face become hotter and hotter as realisation of what he just said kicked in.

Eating her cake and sipping on her juice, Mel noticed Daniels gaze and smiled. "What?"

"I was just checking and I think you're wrong. You're about just the perfect shape. I like what I'm seeing," he said with a serious face.

Mel blushed and set her drink down and pushed her empty plate away, at a loss for words. Heat rushed through her veins and kicked her body into hyper gear again. Over a simple compliment...yet that simple compliment held a lot more significance to her than she would have ordinarily admitted.

"Um...thank you. You're not bad yourself." She murmured softly and smiled shyly.

Daniel

The situation they found themselves in was becoming more and more uncomfortable, exchanging such simple compliments embarrassed the both of them and an awkward silence fell around the table. They were looking somewhere outside into the garden, avoiding each other's gaze and trying to control the rushing feelings. Daniel forgot all about his cigarette and hissed when it burned his fingers.

He got up quickly and gathered the plates and glasses. "I'll go wash this stuff up," he said and shifted awkwardly and disappeared inside the house.

As he put the dishes away in the machine he slapped his forehead and shook his head. What overcame him and made him say such a thing. Right now Mel was probably thinking what the hell was going on in his head. But her response made him even more uncomfortable. He slipped the cigarettes back into his jacket and returned to his room, deciding not to get in Melissa's way any more today.

Mel was a bit dissapointed when Daniel didn't return, but it gave her time to think. Which wasn't good because everytime she started thinking, her mind would wander off into the deep end where they were flesh to flesh, naked and kissing. Hands and lips and bodies pressing together. It made her shudder with excitement.

It took her a long while to return to the house and by that time Daniel wasn't around, so she got herself a drink and retired to her room. Her vibrator from the night before lay right there in the open, making her think of the night before and blush. She eyed it a moment, nibbling on her bottom lip, then stripped down and proceeded to experience another mind shattering orgasm that left her breathless and sleepy.

This was the way to sleep, she decided, curling up in a comfortable ball, hugging a pillow and drifting off...

Daniel

Tuesday passed slowly and silently. Daniel spoke little, confused and unsure of anything and trusting himself least of all. He didn't want to say something crazy again so he and Mel spoke of neutral things only when it came to talking. During the day he made some additional shopping to prepare something extra for the following day as he supposed it would not end with just the football match but probably turn into a picnic too so he and Melissa took care of preparing some snacks to take with them. Later in the day she dug up an old ball and helped Daniel brush up on his throwing and catching skills. Jokingly she also offered to help him practice tackling but he discarded the idea blushing and arguing that me might hurt her in the process so they stuck to throwing, catching and making Daniel run around the yard trying to guess where the ball might fly.

By the time they were finished he was panting, sweating and collapsed on the grass his chest heaving and his muscles quaking. Their dinner was simple spaghetti and when they were done both sat in the living room and read quietly as music played in the background. After some time Daniel fell asleep and woke up two hours later to see Mel watch a comedy on TV and giggle. She looked nice, sweet and positively gorgeous in casual clothes that she nevertheless wore with charm. Daniel thought then that whatever Melissa would wear she would look great in it. Not showing that he woke up he watched tv with her.

Mel for the most part had enjoyed her day with Daniel. He really was becoming a big part of her life, which was surprising to her considering it hadn't been long since he moved in and offered his help, wanting to to fulfill his brother's request. now she couldn't imagine NOT having him around and it was a little scary. One minute she had lost the one men she swore to love forever, grief stricken and alone and the next his brother seemed to be falling into her heart.

She watched him while he slept for some time, studying his face and body, but mostly his face. He looked so peaceful and relaxed while sleeping. There were no frowns or thoughtful gazes or worries and embarrassed blushes, which she always found charming on him. He was just Daniel and she couldn't help but sit there and melt, aching to touch, but not daring to.

So instead she found herself something funny to watch and settled back, laughing and giggling from time to time. By the time the movie ended, it was well past 11 o'clock in the evening. Mel stretched and yawned, glancing over at Daniel and looking a bit surprised that he was awake. "Hey..." She said softly, "I didn't know you were awake. I was just heading to be myself."

Daniel

He smiled at her warmly and straightened up rubbing his forehead with his fingers. Looking outside he realised it was dark already and the clock told him it was 11.

"Guess I will too. I'll have a snack and a smoke and retire myself as well. We need to be rested for tomorrow. I just bet they are going to put me in with the youngsters as I don't have a kid of my own to play against. Anyway... the match will be in the afternoon. What do you say to a lunch in that Chinese restaurant tomorrow? To get us in high spirits before the shattering defeat the youngster team will suffer? I htink with my belly full of something delicious I will be able to weather the humiliation with my head raised," he joked and winked.

"Anyway, I'm out for my evening smoke. Care to sit with me a while longer?"

Mel laughed at his joke and nodded, "Chineses would be great as long as you don't try and harm yourself with spicy foods again." She giggled and gave him a wink.

"Anyway, I'm out for my evening smoke. Care to sit with me a while longer?"

She smiled at his question and stood, "Yeah, sure...I'll come out for a bit. As long as it's not too chilly." She grinned at him and followed as he stood and fetched his cigarettes before opening the door for her. "Ladies first." Her murmured softly.

She shivered and smiled, "Thanx."

Stepping out onto the porch, she hugged her waist and took a deep breath of fresh air before sitting on one of the steps. "Nice night..."

Daniel

Daniel looked up, squinting as smoke from the cigarette he was lighting irritated his eyes. Indeed the sky was clear and stars blinked at them from the black expanse above them. He blew the smoke away and looked down on Mel who was sitting on the stairs, embracing herself.

"Damn, you must be called," he muttered and put the cigarette on the balustrade and fetched his jacket from inside the house. he put it around her shoulders and Melissa looked up at him, smiling sleepily.

"Thanks, Daniel."

"No problem," Danny answered and walked down the steps into the yard and smoked looking up. "Which was your star? Your and Michael's?" he asked seriously. "He never told me that."

Mel looked up at the sky and looked a little amused. "Star huh? Well, if he didn't tell you, he certainly didn't tell me. I don't believe we ever had a star...Michael wasn't...um...I don't know...that romantic. Yes, he was affectionate and thoughtful, but he didn't think of little things like that." She said, her gaze drifting back down at Daniel.

"I take it you're a romantic, Daniel?" She asked him softly, hugging his jacket close and catching herself inhailing deeply, wanting to catch his scent. To wrap herself around his warmth and snuggle deep.

Daniel

Daniel tiled his head to his side and looked at Melissa with his right eye, his left closed. He was a little startled by her question but decided he needn't play all shy and bashful with her; he couldn't control the faint blush that coloured his cheeks though. He never asked himself this question but now that Mel had inquired he had to think about what he should answer her.

She looked like a small bird, perched upon the stairs, hugging herself and drawing his jacket around him. She seemed frail and fragile again even though he knew she had overcome her grief and had come to terms with Mike's absence. He took one last pull on his cigarette and flicked it somewhere in the darkness as he sat next to Mel. He noticed she was probably cold and wanted to embrace her but thought she might misunderstand.

"I don't know really. I don't think it's up to me to decide. It's no like I can call myself a romantic. It's just in the nature and if what I'm doing or saying seems romantic to you, the I probably am in your eyes... Anyway, let's go inside, I don't want you to get cold."

He helped Melissa up as she extended her hand to him and they both returned inside. Saying quick goodnight they departed to their rooms.

Mel was still smiling to herself when she slipped into bed. Well…she thought that Daniel was a romantic. He hadn’t done anything extremely special for her or to her – but it was just the little things he did and asked. Snuggling down into bed, she fell right to sleep only to wake up a bit later than usual the next morning. She yawned and stretched and then got up to get ready for the day.

In the background she could hear Daniel puttering about the house and slipped into the bathroom where she showered. She was just there to watch the game, so she selected a light, almost gauzy skirt that flowed about her ankles in a soft romantic way, slipped on a pair of open toed sandels and a simple blouse tucked into her skirt. Brushing back her hair, she secured half of it up and back from her face, while the rest fell down her back.

With a light touch of makeup and a spritz of perfume, she went to see what he was up to…

Daniel

On Wednesday Daniel woke up at his regular time, 5 A.M., and he proceeded to brush his teeth, put on a track suit and go for his usual run which he decided to shorten a bit today so that his muscles weren't so tired when the coming ordeal of the football match came. He spent some time sprinting to make sure his ankles were warmed up and waved his arms to relax his shoulders. Even though his run wasn't as tiring as usual he returned home sweaty and panting but pretty well warmed up. He proceeded to take a long shower and shave, hoping he will play at least decently so as not to humiliate himself in Melissa's eyes... having to play in the youngsters' team was bad enough.

Back in his room he put on a pair of knee-long jeans and a grey t-shirt with turtles screwing around in various interesting positions. Whistling to himself he listened for any sound of activity but it was silent so Melissa was probably still asleep. He used the time before breakfast to clean up in the kitchen and the living room a little bit. Then Danny busied himself with breakfast, putting the kettle for coffee on and making a batch of toasts. He could her Mel already up and about, cruising between her room and the bathroom.

He picked up the phone receiver and dialled a number. After a few signals he spoke.

"Err, Mr Robertson? Yes, this is Daniel Rikers speaking... Yes, yes, exactly. Has something new come up?... Still nothing... Yes, that's right... U-huh... I see... Well, I still don't have any clear reports from that garage the ford's been hauled away to so I can't really tell you anything new... No, no... Oh, that's right, I saw Lance the other day... Not really, seemed carefree as usual but as I told you I think this is all just a facade... Are you having him tailed as I asked?... I know that, I just thought that perhaps one of your men might have... Nothing? Ok, Mr Robertson, I will call you once the report has arrived... Thanks again... Goodbye." Daniel hung up and turned only to see Mel stare at him.

She looked gorgeous this morning, light and relaxed but he didn't have the time to study her better as her gaze seemed to have paralysed him.

Mel hadn't meant to listen in on his convorsation. Truth be known, she was just surprised that he was even ON the phone and had wondered if perhaps he was calling family or a friend...she wanted him to be able to see them, have some fun and reconnect. But as she walked in and caught the last of his convorstation she was shocked into total silent. She caught him saying Lance's name and felt a moment of thrill, but then the rest caught her completely off guard.

...Not really, seemed carefree as usual but as I told you I think this is all just a facade... Are you having him tailed as I asked?... I know that, I just thought that perhaps one of your men might have... Nothing? Ok, Mr Robertson, I will call you once the report has arrived... Thanks again... Goodbye."

He was having Lance tailed? She had to be wrong. What in the hell was going on. Clearing her throat uncomfortable, she felt herself blushing with embarrassement. "I um...I didn't mean to hear anything...I uh...didn't know you were on the phone."

She coughed delicately and moved away to fix herself a cup of coffee, avoiding his gaze and as a rush of thoughts assaulted her mind. The biggest one, what was he up to?

Daniel

Gaping, Daniel watched as Mel entered the kitchen with slow steps and quickly disappeared. Damn, she must have overheard it all and he preferred that she didn't know what was going on and what was the basis for the animosity between him and Lance... Heh, animosity... If she only knew his suspicions she probably would have treated Lance as coldly as himself. Embarrassed, Danny followed Melissa into the kitchen and found her sitting silently at the table, sipping her coffee.

He fixed himself a cup as well and sat opposite to her.

"So you heard it all, hmmm?" he asked lightly, a little sad.
