When chocolate eggs and flowery bonnets aren't enough, when even Sunday services with uplifting sermons and beautiful hymns seem false, and brunch with ham and quiche doesn't tempt you...when even hearing the Easter story in great detail won't satisfy your deepest spiritual and masochistic desires...why not take Easter to the next level?
Robert Garrison, described as 'a 30-year-old sado-masochist from Florida', will be hammered onto a giant wooden cross behind a glass window in view of passersby at Battlecam TV's headquarters in Los Angeles. The event is billed as 'honouring the sacrifices made by our Lord, Jesus Christ' - but it as been dismissed as inappropriate by some internet users in The States.

During the crucifixion a gospel choir will be sing Easter songs and chant Psalm 22 which starts with the immortal words 'My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?' Mr Garrison will be left impaled by 12in nails for several hours while users of Battlecam TV's social networking website are invited to comment.

This man cannot be allowed to do this. He will die. A major component of crucifixion is the slow suffocation of the person. The weight of the body hanging causes the ribs to compress on the chest cavity causing strain on the lungs and heart. Crucifixion is more than just the pain of the nails going through the body. What if they nick an artery? This is too dangerous. The authorities must stop this from happening. This is NOT a matter of religious freedom. Crucifixion was so horrific that Roman citizens were exempt from it as means of execution. I am appalled and sickened this event.

Don't worry about it, neko-- people have done this plenty of times. Honest. "Several hours" is not life threatening.

That being said, Religion dries my pussy up. I keep it right the fuck out of my sadomasochism.

Thank you, Stella. I really appreciate your answer.

I just can't stand shit like this. It was just a knee-jerk reaction to the entire idea of someone allowing another person to do this in the name of religion. The entire idea of crucifixion has always made me physically ill-- as I am sure most people are appalled too.

IF this goes through, I have a suspicion that they will end up simply lashing the man's wrists and feet to the cross rather than actually impaling him with nails, and that there will be plenty of EMS personnel nearby . . . which is a hell of a lot more than could have been said for Jesus Christ.

If the man really wanted to show his devotion to his religion, he'd go out to a desert and have it done there, surrounded by no one who likes him. Otherwise, it's just a ridiculous publicity ploy.

I agree. It is a ridiculous publicity stunt.

If he wanted to show his devotion to religion, then he would volunteer to work in at a local food pantry or a homeless shelter or tutor people like I do for free. Before I left teaching, I was an ESL teacher. Now, I volunteer at a local church that helps people learn to read, write, and speak English. I am not a religious person, so I don't even belong to this church; however, they do a lot good of work in our community.

Agreed.

He's showing his devotion to his own sadomasochism.

But none of that is sensational enough, especially not for an LA-based attention whore. ;)

Earnest work goes unnoticed; propaganda gets the attention.

It's a pity that there was a problem yesterday, because this crucifixion thing is not particularly rare.
In the Philippines, they do a similar thing; also in celebration of Easter.

Ah, yes the crucifixion the ultimate sign of man's inhumanity to man. Let's celebrate!

I agree 6-7 hours would not kill him(and I am sure he may lash himself across the chest so he is not truly hanging) Hell check this shit out.

I also agree this is a stunt that's about self glorification, not the glorification of God.

But although I do not have a pussy to dry up, religion especially Catholicism makes me ill. If there is a god he would be disgusted with what those assholes have done in his name.

beware invitations for your young children to go on easter egg hunts in any Catholic churches this year.

New Pope, same diseased abomination.

As others have said, I imagine he and those helping him know this--what self-respecting masochist wouldn't have done his research?--and that unlike Jesus he'll have ropes and such to keep him from suffocating, and the nails will go into the right, historically accurate spots, not the hands, as on paintings.

Likely the main point is to feel those nails hammered into him. I'm pretty sure he'll also have paramedics there to take him down if anything goes wrong. I mean, this is going to go on the internet live--so he's not likely to get into serious trouble before it is noticed.

And, as said, religious people enduring crucifixions (as in the Philippines--where I believe they do it lying down) are done elsewhere (more research). I just thought it apt news for those of us who write about fetishes--especially as it's going to be doubly fetishized on the internet--masochistic religious fetish combined with sado-religious voyeurism.

If this is truly going to be shown live on the Internet, it will be interesting to see if it gets swarmed by religious zealots, or protestors, or both. I may actually watch it, just to see what kind of angle they take.

I found this on the FilmOn.tv website:

BattleCam.com is the first truly interactive TV Channel. It is a 24/7 reality TV show where Members of the website can project themselves on live TV with their webcams. The audience at home and online, can chat and votes who they want to keep on. Casters can earn as much as $10 a minute for the time they are able to stay on the main stage. Other channels from the cam-site community are randomly chosen and broadcast on TV as well.

Eccentric billionaire Alki David founder and owner of BattleCam.com was asked if he was worried whether the website would be criticized as being sacrilegious, he responded with the words “Not at all! I am Greek Orthodox, which is like being Catholic but without the guilt!” He continued, “Hopefully Mr.Eyelidz will not die for us in the same way as our Saviour did but he will certainly bring the funny back to God.”

$10 a minute? I suppose that's worth a few extra holes in your body . . .

Survey: 48% of US Christians Believe Jesus Is Coming Back in Next 40 Years

According to a Pew Research Center survey, almost half (48%) of Christians in the U.S. say they believe that Christ will return to Earth in the next 40 years, and 27% of them were so sure, they said Jesus would "definitely" be back soon (A bit more skeptical 20% said "probably"). The slightly smaller goup of Christians (37%) that doesn't think Jesus is coming back soon is less sure, with only 10% saying they "definitely" won't see him, and 28% say it "probably" ain't happening. In between the two camps are 14 % of Christians who just "don't know" if JC is en route to the world by 2053, but I guess we'll find out then, won't we?

So I looked around for articles about this supposed crucifixion, and finally found what seems to be a pretty accurate, if very cynical account of it here. There is also a short video on YouTube, showing the "nails" being inserted in one of his hands.

Given all the hype, I have to say the end result was less than spectacular. If Garrison was going for an accurate depiction of Jesus' crucifixion, he fell miserably short. The conditions were extremely controlled. The nails used were standard needles used by body mod experts. Fairly thick, but nothing like the historical nails which were used by the Romans. They were carefully inserted so as to avoid both nerves and metacarpals.

It seems "Mr. Eyelidz" was only on the cross for a few minutes before they took him down and slapped a couple of band-aids on his hands.

Not quite a rapturous event, I think.

Speaking as a historian of the period, the real thing ranged from horrible to far worse. That Jesus was only alive for a few hours of the ordeal suggests that Pilate ordered him to be crucified in the most 'merciful' manner, that is hanging by his arms unsupported so as to die of suffocation quickly. If they really wanted someone to suffer, like perhaps the rebel Spartacus, they's have driven the leg nails through his Achilles tendon so that that the victim squatted on his heels with his body twisted 90 degrees. That could mean a man died over a period of a week or longer.

BTW, the wrist nails were deliberately driven through the most tender nerves possible and the crown of thorns pierces a whole bunch of really sensitive places in the skull.

There's a contradiction in terms in what this is reported to represent and a sado-masochist doing it. It's not supposed to be done for enjoyment or sexual arousal.

I suspect Mr. Eyelidz is a bit confused. I think he is more of an attention seeker than anything else.

Thanks for following up on this story, Slyc. I just didn't have the heart to do it. I'm glad it turned out to be only a few minutes.

Thanks, Bear for your post. From what I've read from the historical accounts of Roman crucifixion (and I'm no historian here), it is not a thing that anyone should be recreating for any reason.

My reaction was probably over the top, but I have the sort of nature that finds it difficult to stand by and watch anyone hurt themselves or others-- even if they want it. I guess I'm a pretty lousy sado-masochist.

When I was younger, I volunteer at a hospital. I just have no stomach for senseless pain.
