I received a phone call last night from some guy in Texas.

He said my number was on his caller id machine from Saturday night.

Now, here is the dilemma, my number is unlisted and unpublished and shouldn't show up on a caller id machine even if I did make the call.

Secondly, I was home alone Saturday and did not phone Texas or anywhere even remotely resembling the number he gave me.

During our conversation, he quickly moved into topics of a sexual nature. Then, was rather pushy about calling me back. I finally gave in and told him he could "try" to call later.

He did and I did what I should have done in the beginning, cut him off and hung up.

Now, how is it possible for my number to show up on his caller id?
I do use phone cards that are routed through a variety of states, could that have been what happened?

I don't get it.
It also makes me a little bit nervous.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

That's very odd and would creep me out.

Did you happen to see what his phone number is?

I don't know if your phone number shows up when you use a phone card, easy way to find out though is to call someone who has a caller id and ask them if it showed up.

Miss T, 10-1 that your number was never on his caller ID. SOunds like he used that little excuse to break the ice on an otherwise random call.

Well, anyone I have phoned using a phone card says it shows the call as coming from a different state than I am in.

Hmmm

And KR? I doubt it.

Only a few people whom I trust implicitly have my phone number here.

Her number shouldn't show up at all if she is using phone cards.

The only way that person could have gotten your phone number is if someone gave it to them.

IMHO

I guess sometimes, the easiest answer is not the first you consider!

dude, your number didn't show up on his id.

damn mouse beat me to it.

MsT, that's classic behavior for that type of phone call.

MissT, It's not the phone card, because your number wouldn't have come up on the caller ID. It would have shown a different number than yours. This is a strange call. Woulda creeped me out.

If you did happen to get his phone number, I'd do a reverse search on it just to see what turned up.

Sad to say you can find almost anyones phone numbers on the internet now days. Even unlisted ones. But it's a lot of trouble.

Just because your number is unlisted and nonpub doesn't mean it wont show up on caller id. You have to actively have caller id blocking on your phone.

But it's more likely if your number really was on his caller id to start with that someone called him from a similar number (alot of times cell phones show up on caller id with a different area code than they are originating from).

If you have his number you can easily block him if you have call blocking on your phone. In most areas call blocking is available on your phone even if you don't have it as one of your calling features. If you don't all ready know the code to block a number just call your local operator and they can give it to you.

Thanks.

It isn't that my number showed up that creeps me out.

It was his persistance in calling me back and his sex talk. Gosh! He tried to get into phone sex even though he could hear my kids in the room with me!

An added note: If it's not just some random weirdo and the phone calls continue you can call the business office of your local phone company and report the problem. They should refer you to an annoyance call dept (If they don't ASK them to) It's illegal to make harrassing/threatning calls and your phone company will have a dept that works with the local authorities.

Miss T, I use phone cards too, and in NO WAY does your personal phone number ever show up. Either this man got your phone number from someone else, or he went to alot of trouble to get it some other way. This is not a good thing, but you know that. It's time to take action.
Like kitty suggested, do a reverse search, and do it quick. I would also report him for harassment, then his number can be traced. You will not be given access to the info the phone company gathers, but law enforcement can request the info. In some states, you can activate the call trace yourself.

Also, if you want to take an extra security measurement, some phone companies now have a privacy security block. You pay a small monthly fee and if someone who calls you trys to block their number they wouldnt be able to get through to you unless they gave their name to the phone company or their phone number. I have it and love it. Also helps cut down on the solicitors as well.

Also I forgot to mention, (not enough coffee yet) that this service also gives you the options to accept the caller or deny the caller. If its a number I dont recognize or a name I dont recognize I just deny the call. That simple. I think I pay a $4.95 montly rate for it. In my opinion it is well worth it. Hope this helps!

Damn mouse, beat me to it, too!

I think the biggest clue is the guy went right for phone sex. Not normal at all, and probably what he was looking for all along.
