Should women serve on combat ships?

Yes, just not in Combat Arms in the Army.

Do you think that there will be any heavy artillery? and pass that popcorn damnit...

I've got beer, iced tea, and soda...what do you two want to wash that popcorn down with

Oh my..........minefields littering this place

Pass the beer, Rose

Yes.

Women in the armed forces should be allowed to serve wherever any similarly qualified man does. That includes comabat arms.

Well, since everyone has gathered to witness fireworks, let me be the one to step up and light the fuse, so to speak.

No disrespect intended to the USAF and the USN, I truly don't support the competiton between the branches. I spent 3 years on recruiting and met some Great people from both.

However, I strongly believe the difference in the branches is the nature of the beast for this type discussion. I've spent almost all my career(15+ years) at Fort Benning, home of the Infantry. I've worked supporting the Rangers, Airborne and the basic training soldiers there. They lead a life that is VERY different from anything else in any branch, except the Marines.

Can someone women handle the job? Definitely, without a doubt. Can some men handle them being there? Sure.
But as a whole, Combat Arms in the Army or Marines is not a wise decision. I strongly believe that society as a whole couldn't handle it.

Some of the problems as I see it:
1. decreased morale among the soldiers.
2. gender norming (which would weaken the branch)
3. the one female (there is always one) who can't except the load and wants special consideration.
4. young men who would abuse the situation, either by mistreatment or over consideration for the females.

As a female in the military, I am willing to fight along side a man any day for this country and the beliefs of the nation. However, for the strength of the military. I say NO, don't open those jobs up to women.

As for the other branches, my perception is that it wouldn't matter as much, as they are rarely engaged in hand to hand, intense ground fighting.

Now, pass the popcorn while I wait. *smile*

What is gender norming and how would that weaken the branch?

gender norming

Is when the standards are different based upon the sex of the individual.

Example: To pass the school a man may have to march 10miles with 50lbs on his back, where as a female only has to march 5miles with 15lbs. Yet they both receive the same job and recognition.

What, I can't hear you... there is too much heavy artillery being fired..

Two words: Double Standards

If a woman is held to a different standard than a man is, then not only no, but HELL FUCKNIG NO. But if women will stop their belly-acheing and step up to the plate and perform the same task to the same standard, then I would be more than happy to have them in Combat Arms. But my veiw, as an active duty Infantryman, is that a large majority of women in the military are out of shape and grossly over weight. And nothing looks worse than long hair hanging out of the back of a BDU cap.

Oh, oh. Now you've done it. *gather the popcorn and soda folks, we're moving to safer ground.*

Well, if you are looking for a fight on that one, you came to the wrong place. Just reinforces my own opinion.

However, as someone who runs 5-8miles per day and can do more push-ups than most men...I would have to say "grossly over weight" doesn't describe this soldier.

Have to agree about the hair though, is one of my pet peeves. Will lock a "bitch" up in a heart beat over that one, and the ones who think they are too "cute" to wear the damned hat right.

Ooohhh...don't get me started. Hubby is out of town, haven't had sex in over 6 months and I'm more than ready for a little excitement.

Get back down here. Never known an Infantryman to run from a battle. Getting old? *sticks out tongue*
