My automatic update isn't working. I get the warning that it's not updated, and when I go to LiveUpdate, it doesn't work. What is going on? My virus definitions haven't been updated since May 8- I did a visurs scan on my computer and everything seems to be ok.

Can anyone help me?

Have you checked your subscription data? Norton requires a yearly fee to continue the download function.

I dumped Norton after my PC became infected despite the fact it updated every day. I started using AVG Antivirus. It's excellent, it's free, and it doesn't interefere with any other running software. It does everything Norton does, and it doesn't suck up your system resources or slow down your PC.

In my opinion AVG is rubbish at one time I have used both, had AVG installed on my comp for about a month. Did a scan with it before installing norton's and it didnt pick up any virus. After installing norton and updateing then doing a full scan it picked up 6 virus's.

To answear lilminx's question was the version of norton a cracked patched version or a legit version. Norton as find a way of disableing the live update on patched version's.

Cracked software? Get real.

solid, you probably got those viruses by downloading cracked files.

Yes, I want to buy software I have to pay to keep up to date.

I think you'll find that reinstalling the software will be all that's needed LM, I've had simular problems myself and that turned out to be the solution.

Sometimes files get corrupted, a bit like me really. lol

No I not in to the cracked files stuff I believe in paying for software a lot less hassle in the long run. Beside's im on dial up it will take months to download anything of value.

The virus's that norton picked up and AVG didnt where email worm's.

Are you using a new registered version? Its true that you have to register it every and pay a fee - and their servers know if its an approved version or not.

If you've installed a new, working copy and registered it you should have no problem downloading virus def updates.

If you still do - are you behind a firewall? You might have to tweak your firewall settings.

If you are using a copied version or old version of the program I recommend investing the $30 or so in a new copy. Its worth it - considering what you went through recently because of virus problems, you know that better than most.

If you don't update your virus definitions at least once a week you really have no protection.

It could be possible that you have a virus. There are some viruses out there that will attack your antivirus software, and the Klez is one of them. It wiped mine out totally. I could not even uninstall. If you do not have Norton System Utitilies, then try getting that and running it. It might help you.

Sounds like you didn't set it up to check your incoming email. It will only do what you tell it.

Norton sucks. It's a drag on your system.

One can buy Norton Systems Works 2002 for 29.95 all over the net. I did and i like it alot. Anti virus, windoctor, disk doctor, cleansweep, and all the rest of the stuff. i'm a grinning!

I don't know what the fee will be in one year and i don't care, it's worth every penny of it. My computer runs great now all the time!

:D

I borrowed my mom's copy of Norton SystemWorks 2002- maybe the servers detected multiple copies and disabled mine. I might just go and buy a copy of it then, because I really don't want to fuck around, after all of the problems I've had. In the meantime, I'm going to click on the link that Semler gave and do a system scan just in case.

Thanks all for your suggestions and advice.
