Yes, it finally happened. After 25 or 30 very positive feedbacks on my one story here so far, I finally a got a negative feedback! From anonymous, naturally. I am so proud of it, I have copied it below:

That was a horrible story....
you are one sick ass bastard....
and Do you do this in real life...
Get to a couch my friend you need help!!!!

My reaction on getting it was to smile, and crack up laughing. I assume that he or she "1" voted me as well. Big whoop. What is the problem with getting negative feedbacks?

My only concern is that due to the generic nature of the negative feedback, he or she didn't mean it specially for me, but was sending it to multiple writers here. I want to be special. Did anyone else get that one?

No, I didn't get that one. Mine usually start out with either "YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!" or my personal favorite "Your not a good writer I dont know why people think you are." I've gotten a few of those in the last year.

The problem? Most writers in these parts have no actual experience with receiving rejection on their writing. They aren't writers by trade and don't really want to be. It's sometimes really difficult to separate rejection of the writing--even when it shows up as a personal attack--from rejection of self. Almost as hard as it is to separate me from my keyboard.

Good point. Getting enough rejections from editors to wallpaper your office is a part of the writing for publication process, particularly when starting out. It can be difficult to explain to someone who doesn't submit about why getting a "good rejection", where the editor takes the time to comment on the manuscript or article while still declining to buy it, can be an actual cause for celebration.

Rejections? I got lots 'O' rejections

I have been called a 'sick bastard', a 'simpelton with a moronci twist', and "A woman hating nigger loving asshole" ( I am quoting the good parts, and the last time I checked I don't believe that I was neither 'woman hating, nor racist.) I have also had some that ran the usual types of, "your story sucked and so do you asshole" and then there's "when you learn to write well, let some else know. You shouldn't waste people's time and energy writing your drivel to be seen here.".

My response? Can't. all of the real juciy ones are from Mr./Ms. Anon. HOw do they make me feel? GREAT! I have hit a nerve with them and pissed them off. If my writing is causing such an emotional response, then I have done something that writing should do, that being, get in their heads and hearts.

That they take the time to let me know how much they hate me is almost a 'paycheck' for the week. I treasure those repsonses along with the really great ones from readers who actually like what I write. Don't get me wrong here though, I wish that all my feedback was along the lines of how great of a writer I am, or couldn't stop reading it, or, on my top authors list for life. :)

I am new to writing still, and make plenty of bonehead mistakes, as several people will tell you, but the honest ones still say something good about my story along with the bad.

I still plan to write, and maybe someday I will actually be a good writer. Who knows, it could happen. :)

Anonymous feedback

I got an anonymous feedback the other day. I was put out a bit at first, then I realised that the message started with a small letter for "I".
The unknown person challenged my story and said that people wouldn't have those kind of thoughts when they were going throught the situations I described and they were voting me a two.
I reread it and it was expressed in far worse terms than I have just used.
So I just comforted myself with the thought that this individual was as limited in his imagination as he was in his powers of expression.
You just can't please everybody.

*snickers*

My favorite was in response to my first story "Fantasy"

Some guy responded.. anony of course... saying that the story was good but unrealistic... You can't have sex to Nine Inch Nails...

That was his only complaint... the music in the background...

and he's wrong. *smirks*

I haven't gotten any negative feedback yet, but then, I haven't gotten much feedback at all, or many votes or reads either.
*sighs*
Oh, well. One day, I hope to be as sick a bastard as the rest of you...;)

Ok Quiet, I decided you needed to be taught what nasty anonymous feedback is, so I read ALL your stories, with a view to panning you anonymously. Damn you, they're too good, I really enjoyed them! Try writing some real crap.

But, just to be kind, I will say this:

Your a sicko guy more sicko than my father wich is saing a lot if you knew my father hes so sicko hed probably like your sick stories you sick fuck.

I haven't gotten any negative reviws about any of my stories yet (nothing here on literotica yet, just personal website) and I always wonder if that's a bad thing.
Of course, then I wonder if it's wrong to think it's a bad thing. I think I actaully begin to wish for a negative review because I know someone, somewhere has got to not like it.
Or maybe I'm just weird.;)

I dunno... I tend to think sometimes that negative feedback aka criticism, the somewhat intelligent type... Is better than positive...

Most of the positive feedback I get is requests for cyber or people asking me to write stories of a certain type for them, or people saying hey that was cool or did this really happen?

Negative feedback... The type that actually identifies what they didn't like, at least gives me some idea of what I need to work on...

HEy this is cool is nice, but doesn't tell much... y'know?

*sniffles*

Melacynthe

I have gotten positive and negative feedback where the responder has taken me to task for certain specific items in a story. Those, like you, i like. Once in a while though it is great to get a response that really likes the story for no other reason than they got off on it. It lets me know that I am on the right track as an erotic writer. NOt everyone is going to read a story in order to break in down to it's single components and give you a critic.

Some people like to read and get off on a good sexy story. if I happen to have written it then GREAT. I have been the bringer of good feelings and that is just as good as getting critiqued to me.

Besides, why did we all start to write erotic stories anyway? For the critics to let us know what they thought or to get some people off on our dirty minds?

Positive Negative.

The Story Feedback Forum is where you should go to get incisive feedback, or sometimes just plain dumb-ass feedback, from people who also write.

The anonymous feedback mails, which I love to get, are not going to be so detailed usually. They're more like a way for a reader to tell you they loved or hated your story.

I use the phrase "Positive feedback" to mean "encouraging feedback", which may not be all "nice" to get.

I use the phrase "Negative feedback" to mean "discouraging feedback", which is never "nice" .

I know that's not what people usually mean when they talk about positive and negative feedback. They say 'Oh s/he liked my story, that's positive, s/he didn't like it, that's negative.'

Recently I've become cautious of giving any sort of feedback to people who just seem to want their egos fed. All it does is make them even LESS sure of themselves. Of course if you think their story was great, and entertained you or got you really hot, then it's easy. Just tell them. Nice for everyone.

I once got very negative 'anonymous' feedback from a guy, but unusually, he provided an email address. He gave me the chance to respond back. I must say that felt TOTALLY different to the 'YOU SUCK WHY DONT YOU CURL UP AND DIE' anonymous thing. I had no animosity.

I think most of us, even scaredy cat first-time submitters, are quite happy to acknowledge that our story is not going to be everyones taste. We just don't want a lot of bricks and bottles thrown at us.

(I actually remember being caught up in a real-life "Blues Brothers" scene, when I was playing blues in a 'rough' club. A big fight broke out and my piano was overturned. The owner of the club put his thumbs up and mouthed to me over the noise: "They like you!")

What strikes me as bizarre, is the fact that I've gotten 3 times more feedback over the incest story I wrote, than over all the others put together! :(

Why's and whatevers and such

<<Besides, why did we all start to write erotic stories anyway? For the critics to let us know what they thought or to get some people off on our dirty minds? >>

Me? I don't normally have erotic dreams... I tend more often to have nightmares... And when I dont' have nightmares, I only vaguely remember "weird stuff" in my dreams...

One morning I woke up after this rather intense dream... The next day I could still remember, in every detail... so I sat down and typed it all out.

It was about a guy I had a crush on, so one day when I got brave, I showed it to him, and a couple of other friends.

All three of them were open mouthed gasping with shock, wanting to know "did that actually happen?"

One of the girls begged me to go out clubbing with her... The other begged me to write more stories...

The guy, when I confessed it was him in the dream, tried to get me into bed (but I'd already decided he wasn't worht the effort) and has been trying since then...

*snickers*

Then another friend introduced me to literotica, cuase I love to read stories.. and I decided to post the story (Fantasy, the one I referred to before) and have been writing stories occasionally since then.

so yeah.

(not that you actually really wanted to know all this, but yeah, here it is.)

Dreams

Melacynthe,

Talking of dreams,
I once had a very vivid and weird, apparently non-sexual dream a few years ago the night after I had a certain type of sex for the first time. (Not saying, but it's legal). Interestingly, a friend of mine told me recently about having an almost identical dream. I came very close to asking him if his new girlfriend had introduced him to this type of sex the night before, but I never did. I'm almost sure that was it though.

For me, writing erotica was originally a sort of "coming out", acknowledging my sexuality and losing shame. It's very differernt to reading erotica (which I also like!)
But it's turned into exploring OTHER people's sexuality, imaging what it's like to be them. As well as providing a huge amount of detail on what makes people turned on. Always useful in a bar or party!
I think the guy you "confessed" to was not only flattered that you dreamed about him, but it sounds as though he and the other people were impressed by your imagination! That's a real turn-on for a lot of people.
