The main character, Emily (played by StarxChyld), has just moved to a big city university from her home in the mid-west. She is typically innocent, and a bit nieve, but not overly so. Emily comes from a poor family and, although they send her some money and Emily has a few grants, she must work in the university cafeteria to pay expenses. But that cuts into her study time, so after only a few weeks, it’s already affecting her studies. Later Emily sees an ad seeking girls for a porn web site, and it pays big money enough to keep Emily in school. But now Emily must make the biggest decision of her life! What will she do?

The current characters are:
Emily, played by StarxChyld
18, pâté, blond, former cheerleader, and the face of an angel. And a virgin.

Emily’s dorm room mate, Sera, played by Angelofsex.
Sera is experienced with boys, and some what worldly. 21 (so she can go into a bar)

Freddy, the owner of the porn studio, played by me Sail Away.
25, blond, good looking, works out. He runs a modest but legal and legitimate studio. He’s basically a descent guy. He mostly gets young girls from the university trying to pay their way through school to pose for his porn web site or make videos. Most of them are experienced and willing to do porn.

We’ll need a number of part time supporting roles. Emily’s boss at the cafeteria, a teacher, maybe a new boyfriend she finds on campus, and last but not lease Emily’s “co-stares”. I’ll fill in as some of those characters as needed until we can get permanent players.

If you would like to join please post on the “OOC;” thread of the same name.

And now on with the story!
“Miss…Miss…Wake up! This is your stop. Berkley University.” A young girl is sleeping soundly on the bus seat, resting on her large khaki duffel bag on the seat next to her. Under her arm is a worn teddy bear apparently standing guard. Its late afternoon and the girl has been on the bus all day. When she awakes she will not only be in a new place but starting a new life, but she now can not conceive just how different her life will later be! “Miss…Miss…Wake up!” The girl finally awakes.

Emily

Her clear blue eyes open wide as she’s awoken from her dreams and then shut tightly against the bright sunshine streaming in through the dirty windows of the bus. Opening them again slowly, she manages a soft smile to the kindly bus driver. Stifling a yawn, she slings her backpack over her shoulder and rises unsteadily to her feet as the bus pulls to a halt in front of the University. “Thank you, George. For your company and all the great advice. I wouldn’t forget.”

She steps off the bus and waves at the driver as he pulled away, wishing her father could have been more like George. He’d been her only friend on the long ride from Peoria, Illinois to the prestigious California campus of Berkeley University. He’d been warm and kind, giving her solid advice on how to study better; spend at least 2 hours a day in the library, how to keep on the right track; stay away from the drugs and most importantly, how to succeed; always be yourself. All her father had done was complain about how far away she was going and how much money it was going to cost the family. He’d barely said good-bye as he dropped her at the bus station back in Peoria. Somehow she got the impression that he was angry at her. Angry because she was getting an opportunity he’d never had, that no one in their family had ever had. . .she was going to college. She would be the first one in her family to earn a degree!

Glancing around the campus, she draws in a deep breath, relishing the fresh ocean breezes. “This is going to be so cool!”

Setting her backpack down, she rummages through one of the compartments and pulls out a crumpled piece of paper with an address scribbled on one side. “Well, this is it. Home.”

Tucking a wisp of silky blonde hair behind one ear, she slips on her sunglasses and heads in the direction of the dorms. It’s a long street of row houses that all look exactly the same, except of the numbers on the doors. Finding 1477 Linden Street, she takes the stairs two by two, excited and nervous to meet her new roommate. They’ve only talked on the phone once but she was sure she was going to love her. She paused on the landing, unsure whether to ring the bell or use her key. Deciding to err on the side of courtesy, she rings the bell and waits.

Sera

"I know hon, tonight for sure. Wait the bell rang, hold on Steve, let me see who it is." Putting the phone on the bed, I when to answer the door.

Opening the door I see this cute blond. "Yes is there something you want." Looking at this girl she looked so excited to me. "Wait are you my roommate?" Seeing the smile I knew it.

"My name is Sera. Come on in, where is your key?" Taking her bag from her, as she close the door.

"Please excuse me, my boyfriend is on the phone, be right back."

As George the buss driver pulls away he glances at the side mirror to see the last glimpse of the sweet little girl whom he had befriended on the long trip. He sees her digging through her big back pack, and wonders how a sheltered girl like Emily will make it in a town like Berkley. George takes a deep breath, lets it out, and mutters to himself, “Good luck sweetheart; you’ll need it.”

Emily

The door opened and I was about to make my introduction when the stunning girl with the phone tucked between her shoulder and ear, starting firing questions at me so quickly it made my head spin! Standing there with my mouth agape, all I could do was nod dumbly.

“Hi! You must be Emily. I’m Sera. Where’s your key? Excuse me for a moment.”

And with that, she disappeared into my new home. I closed my mouth and hefted my bag once more over my shoulder and walked inside. There was posters on the walls, and flowers in vases and some soft new age music playing down the hall. The air was filled with a faint scent of cinnamon and clove. I loved it already!

Sera appeared again sans the phone. Her smile was genuine and inviting. “Sorry about that. You know. . .guys!” She turned on her heel and headed up a flight of stairs. “Come on, I’ll show you your room.”

She showed me to a beautiful room at the top of the stairs. Two huge windows that looked out over the tiny little backyard and through the treetops I could make out the shimmering water of the Bay. A nice big comfortable bed awaited Teddy and me and I bounced my bottom on it a few times while Sera continued my orientation.

“You’re a freshman, right? This is my Junior year. I’m a theater major. Are you into theater? You should be with that face, Em. . .you don’t mind if I call you Em, do you? Emily just seems so, well, so “old”. Listen, I’ll let you get settled in and then we can go grab a latte on campus. I know you have Orientation tomorrow, I don’t start classes until next week but one more day at home with my parents and I would have died! Anyway, get comfy and then we’ll go check out the campus.”

I tried hard not to giggle in front of her. She talked soooooo fast! No one back in Peoria spoke like that. And she moved so fast. It was like watching a video on Fast Forward. I just prayed that everyone in California didn’t move that quickly!

Placing Teddy in the middle of the bed, I unpacked all my worldly belongings, five pairs of white cotton underwear, two bras, five pairs of socks, two pairs of jeans, three t-shirts and a skirt and blouse, plus my clogs and an extra pair of sneakers. I set the picture of my parents on the bare dresser and glanced in the mirror. It was funny. I didn’t see the little blonde cheerleader from Bergen High, I saw an independent young woman about to embark on her college career.

Dabbing a little clear lip gloss over my lips and running the brush through my tousled hair, I smile excitedly. Watch out Berkeley, here I come!

I watch as Em was putting her things away. Oh mine, I think we need to do some shopping, that is once I get to know her. She is such a pretty girl, the guys are going to love her here.

"Em, I better let you know, you are going to drive the guys crazy here. With your look and being a Freshman, they will be knocking at this door. If you ever need help with them, hey that is what roommates are all about." Laughing as I said that.

Her eyes open wide when I said that, "Yes, I mean what I said. Just wait and watch. I know you know nothing about the big city. I was born and raise in California. You could have alot of fun here."

"Well are you ready for your taste of college life. If you need questions answer, just ask. Being a Junior, I remember how it felt back then on my first day."

Taking my keys we left the room. Walking around the campass, I see the jocks checking her out. This should prove very interesting.
"Em, you see that guy there, Brad, all the girls die for him. Ok me too, but he and I didn't click. He is a senior, and do you see the way he is looking at you." She is so taking with all of this I could tell.

Emily

Sera popped back into my room just as I was putting away the last of my clothes. I closed the dresser drawer and looked up to find her staring at me.

"Em, I better let you know, you are going to drive the guys crazy here. With your look and being a Freshman, they will be knocking at this door. If you ever need help with them, hey that is what roommates are all about." Sera winked.

I really hadn’t thought about the guys at Berkeley. I mean, I did, but it wasn’t like I was out there looking for a boyfriend. Kyle and I had decided to break up just before I left for California. We knew it wouldn’t be fair to either of us, me heading to the West Coast and he going East. We had been going steady since the 7th grade and really were best friends first and foremost. I wanted him to be happy and he wanted the same for me. But, right now, I didn’t really have an interest in meeting any boys. I had enough on my plate with getting settled into my classes and my new job in the student cafeteria. The boys could wait.

Sera led me down our block and unto the campus. I was awe struck at how huge it was! How was I ever going to find my classes with all these different buildings. The campus stretched for blocks and the further we walked, the more nervous I was becoming. I tried to concentrate on what Sera was saying as she pointed out the various buildings and my eyes were roving for landmarks that would help me find my way the next time I had to come out to campus without Sera’s help.

We were approaching the little coffee shop on campus when Sera stopped and grabbed my arm, swinging me around in the opposite direction. Leaning in, she whispered in my ear, "Em, you see that guy there, Brad, all the girls die for him. Ok me too, but he and I didn't click. He is a senior, and do you see the way he is looking at you."

She turned me back around slowly as my eyes made contact with a big burly looking guy. He waved at us and then continued to entertain the group of gorgeous older looking girls that surrounded him.

A senior? Why would he have any interest in me? Besides, those girls around him were absolutely beautiful with their bronze skin and pearly white teeth. They wore tiny little tops with her belly buttons sticking out and they were. . .pierced?!

I looked up at Sera, who had found a nail file and was busy working on the ragged edge of one of her long nails. “Sera? Do those girls have pierced belly buttons?” I tried not to stare too obviously but I was fascinated.

“Of course! And I’m sure they have other things pierced as well, if you know what I mean.” She nudged me knowingly.

I nodded, not wanting to look like a country hick but in truth, I didn’t have the slightest idea what she was talking about.

Sera linked her arm through mine and spun us around on the sidewalk. “Suddenly, I don’t feel much like coffee tonight. I don’t want Brad to sink his teeth into you yet without giving a decent guy a chance. You like jazz, Em? I know this great little jazz bar just a few blocks down.”

“Um, Sera? I’m only 18.” I felt like an idiot pointing out the obvious.

Sera bumped me with her hip and laughed softly, “Oh honey, where we’re going no one’s going to card you. I’m dating the owner’s younger brother. We won’t even have to pay for a thing!”

Following Sera towards the bar, my head was spinning with all I’d seen and done in the few short hours I’d arrived on campus. A glass of wine sounded like the perfect answer and the price was right, considering I had exactly $148.56 in my wallet and that was book money.

Sera

"Em, don't worry here, the men are very nice. You mean you have not pierced your belly button? Oh we have to do something about that. It is nothing at all. Look at mine see it is nothing at all." Raising my top to show her. "You could pull on it doesn't even hurt. Here go ahead and pull, if anything it could be a turn on."

"Hey Sera, what you doing here? Isn't it to early for you", Greg said to me. "Greg this is Emily, my new roommate, Emily this is Greg."

Her smile is something else. "Greg, nice to meet you. Do you know Sera long?"

Greg and I just look at one another and laugh. "Em we are not laughing at you, but the two of us are bad. Greg is really my brother. That is why I told you not to worried here."

"Sera, so much in one day," I heard her saying. If she only knew. Looking at my brother, I could see the look in his eyes, "Greg knock it off. Don't even get that look."

"Greg we will both have a glass of wine", smiling to myself. "So Emily, do you know where all your classes are? Do you have all your books?" I could see her getting all confused. "Enough, now tell me about your boyfriend back home. Did you sleep together? Emily I am very open and will asked just about anything. "

Taking my glass, and putting her's in her hand, "Toast to welcoming you to your new home, cheers"

OOC: Just thought I’d through this in as a one time post.

IC: as Brad,

Brad was going over the chemistry lab schedule with a few of his lady friends when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Sera. Brad stopped talking in mid sentence and looked in her direction. Then he saw the little morsel that she was with. Brad just stands there gawking. One of the ladies jealously approaches Brad taking his arm and puts her chin on his shoulder and whispers into his ear, “You better stop thinking with your ‘thing’ darling. She doesn’t look a day over sixteen. You try something with her and the only thing you’ll be studding is crimanoligy101 at San Quentin!”

Emily

My cheeks were the color of the rosebushes in my mother’s backyard.

Sera’s questions made my head swim.

"So Emily, do you know where your classes are?"

I had no idea!

"Do you have all your books?"
Not a one!

She paused for a moment, apparently only to catch her breath before she started up again.

"Enough about all that. Tell me about your boyfriend. Did you sleep together?

My cheeks were burning, my mouth was hanging open and my wide eyes went from Sera’s angelic face to her brother’s wicked leer. Quickly, I took a sip of my wine and stammered, "Well, technically, yes. On our senior trip to Washington D.C., we switched roommates and Kyle and I got to stay together that night."

Greg grinned, "So that was your first time? Kewl." His head bobbed up and down, just like the little plastic wobble-headed dog in the back of my grandfather’s sedan.

Sera pushed him playfully, "Oh, stop. We all have to lose it sometime, right, Em?" Holding her glass high, she toasted me. "Welcome to your new home!"

I studied the amber liquid in my glass, wishing the floor would just swallow me up. "Right." I lied. I realized that Sera was still holding her glass aloft and I raised mine, smiling sheepishly. "Cheers."

I don’t know why I felt guilty admitting that I was still a virgin. Maybe it was all the navel piercings around me. Everyone seemed so sophisticated and I seemed so backward! I felt like a 6-year-old child that snuck down the stairs at my parent’s cocktail party.

Sera

"Em, don't worry, you will get the hang of everything. Pay no attention to my brother, he loves to flirt. The bookstore is open late tonight, we will go when we leave here." Looking at her, I remember when I first got here. "I know college is a big adjustment. but also could be alot of fun."

"Sorry to ask you that question about you and your boyfriend. I too was a senior in high school when I lost my cherry. My boyfriend Rob and I went to a party at the beach, and we made love under the stars. It was so romantic, I was scare but his kisses got to me. I just gave in."

I could see she was getting nervous here. "Hey Greg, we are going to go. Are you going to be around later?"

"Yes sis, I am on tonight. The boss will be in later this evening. You know him with his boat and other things. Em will you be coming back with her?"

Emily looked from him to me, "I don't know, still getting settle in. If I could and Sera doesn't mind I will be back."

"Ok Em, lets hit the bookstore. You know you are welcome anyplace I go. Well almost, not when I am with my boyfriend Steve. Jut kidding hon, if you could, he wouldn't if you did."

"Bye Greg, talk to you later."

Em said "Nice to meet you, Greg. Hope to see you again."

"Sera, thank you for getting me the wine. Makes me feel a little at ease."

"Hey Em anytime, now for your books."

OOC:
I’ve never attended UCB, but I’ve been there a few times on seminars, so I’ll describe the place.

Narration:
The UCB campus spans many acres, and is crowded with large buildings. On the ground floor of the ‘student union’ is the first floor of the book shop. It’s about the size of a mid-sized department shop. As one walks through that floor one passes shelves of stationary like at Office Depot. Shelves snack food, like at Long’s. Racks and racks of T shirts, sweet shirts, and other clothing, most of them with the “Berkley” written on them. A computer shop with all the latest lap top and desk tops, and there is the “new computer smell” in the air. There are racks of programs all the way from “Duke nuku’m” too the most sophisticated math and physics programs. By the time you get to the other end of that floor you notice that you haven’t seen one text book. Then you see the sign “Text Books Downstairs”. As you walk down the stairs to the basement you see a sea of shelves covered with books. (It’s about the size of a good sized Borders. It really is awesome!) There is a long check out counter with about twenty registers, and you can bet that there is a long line at each register during the first few weeks of school. As with college text books every ware, about half of them are over $100. Even little paperbacks sell for about $50.

The cafeteria is on the second floor of the student union.

Jean-Luc Cancelier

OOC:

Jean-Luc is twenety five years old, five foot ten inches tall, athletic build, with black hair and a Mediteranean complexion. Fresh from the completion of his doctorate he is about to take up his first post - thousands of miles from home....

IC:

At first I was simply elated. A year doing research in America - new places, new people, hopefully some new ideas - and then back to France with an extra line on my CV and a better chance of landing a permanent lecturing post.

Now I'm too caught up in the details to be excited. Place to live, get to grips with the city - and I've realised that the city is so vast I need to buy a car... Anerica is amazing, but somehow, in a way that I can't describe, I feel that I've moved into the middle of a desert, a vaccum. And now I find that my contract obliges me to teach a course to first-year students, and when I look at the reading list for it I'm aware that most of the introductions are American books that I've never heard of! There'll be nothing in there, conceptually, that I won't know, of course, but when some bright spark says ...But I read in such-a-book..." I need to know the reference.

So, here I am in a bookshop the size of a small library, browsing through introductory texts on subjects I know as well as my own palm. I glance around and look at the other people here, and I almost feel old. A gaggle of vivacious American girls skitter past the end of the aisle and I think that while Nature made them beautiful Culture has added nothing. A feel homesick for the first time. Like I say, I've moved into a desert.

I return to my browsing.

Sera

"Em, I am glad you enjoy yourself. My brother could get carry away at times. Do you have your book list? "

As we enter the store, looking to see if I see anyone. Smiling to myself, this is going to be a fun year. No everyone guess is out, causing trouble.

"Sera, where are the books here, I don't see anything at all."

"Em, downstairs we have to go. It is like going into the cellar. Lets look around and see if we could find them. If not then we just go to the desk and the person there will order it for you. Don't worry the first few days, you will be ok with out them."

I could see her getting nervouse, as we looked for the five books she needs. "Sera, do you see that guy over there, do you know him?"

Now I could see why she is getting nervous, smiling to myself. "No Em, I guess you don't either. I think he is checking us out." We both broke out laughing.

"Sera, this is a day that makes my mind think different. You know I am here to study." I could see the look on her face when she said that.

"Em, looks like the English book they need to order for you. That is not bad. Hey, maybe we should go and introduce ourselves to that guy, and have some fun."

"Sera, I am going to be learning alot here."

Jean-Luc

I spend half an hour becoming increasingly irate with some of the books. I'm going to have to buy one, just because it's so aweful and some of the students will have read it far too uncritically. They'll need to learn to be critical, analytical.

There is a flurry of conversation to my left, where a pair of slim girls are hunting through the shelves near the end of the aisle. And this is where I stop being critical, or analytical. The blonde is beautiful. Perfect. They say that when deserts bloom, one day every few years, it's breathtaking - well, I have moved to a desert and there is the blooming. She's naturally startling. I remember to breathe again, and look back at the book in my hand.

When I glance up they're walking towards me. The blonde looks sheepish. Her friend is gigling and catches my eye as they step up towards me.

"You're having a lot of fun book shopping." I say to the more confident of the two as my eyes stray towards her demure friend, and I'm suddenly self-conscious of my accent. "You must be looking at more interesting books than me. Or is there some other secret?"

Sera

As we were walking up the isle and laughing, we heard a voice saying, "You're having a lot of fun book shopping."

He was standing right in front of us. Em and I both looked at one another. Emily whisper to me, "What do we do now?"

"Em don't worry, I will think of something. The only thing is, I am very open. You never know what I will say." We stop right next to him. "You new around here. My name is Sera and this is Emily, we were laughing because," I was just going to say it and Emily push me.

"What Sera was going to say is, we were laughing at what her brother was saying to us. We stop where he was working, before coming here. I am new here too."

I wonder what that was about. This looks very interesting to me, Em coming forward to stop me saying what I wanted to.
