I voted that girls know guys better.

Now, before you guys flame me, let me explain my reasoning.

I think women are more adept at reading "between the lines," that is, we almost intuitively grasp what a man is not saying, while listening to what he is.

There are always exceptions, so I'm slinging no mud here. I love men, and wouldn't change a thing about them. (most of them, anyway)

Like the others who have posted here so far, I said that girls know guys better. How can they not? Generally speaking, guys are pretty simple and easy to understand. They want creature comforts and plenty of sex. Obviously, most guys want things like world peace and an end to famine and stuff like that, which everybody wants, including girls. I am referring to men and women, by the way, as "guys and girls" because that is the name of the thread not because of some macho sexist attitude.

Although guys ae, generally speaking, pretty simple, girls are, also generally speaking, unpredictible, unfathomable, and generally weird. I have gotten into trouble with Perdita and others for saying anything more specific than that so I had better not say any more.

I'm not saying that guys are simple-minded because believe me they are not! But with guys its easier to tell what they are thinking about, us females...well it takes a trained psycho-therapist to break us down..

Actually, most guys are pretty simple-minded, at least in regard to relationships with girls. (Remember, I am not the one who worded this thread.) That's not to say that all guys think alike because they don't, but most guys are pretty simple-minded in their own way. If they aren't, if they are at all devious, the way girls normally are, the guys are probably con men of some kind or another.

I think girls think they know guys better. Most people are rather lazy and can't be bothered to break out of a stereotype. Girls might know nothing about guys, but they won't say so. They'll (or we'll) go on about our 'feminine intuition' and because this is something that's been accepted for a while, it will continue to be accepted unless it is proven otherwise. Guys, on the other hand, always always say that girls are more complex/deep etc. and that they don't understand them.

I think that it is better to say that humans are complex and deep and that nobody can understand them straight away. I think that girls are more sly and have layers to their actions than guys, who seem to be much more straightforward. However, it is actually quite easy to decipher these actions. Guys are equally complex but they behave more naturally. Nonetheless, any human behaviour can be mystifying, but that's what makes us more interesting.

I find that surprising. Most of the women I have known interrupted more than the men I have known. Personally, I speak slowly and never interrupt.

I can't help wondering how these sociolinguists did their studies. Did they eavesdrop on private conversatioins between men and women and record what was said and analyze the recordings? If they did, that's despicable.

Guys know a lot about what they want to know about women (little).
Women know a little about what they want to know about men (everything).

I'd have to say that if they did record private conversations they would be more likely to get an accurate idea. in laboratory conditions a woman is more likely to be pretend to listen.

I would have to agree. Such a thing would probably be illegal if it was done without the knowledge of the people involved. Recording conversations in a laboratory setting would be useless because the people would know they were being recorded and would not be themselves. I believe women would go out of their way to be polite and not interrupt while men would be less concerned about appearances, but that is my HO

I'm crazy not foolish. Where women are concerned, we will never understand them. Having lived in a home full of them, three daughters and a wife, I never even tried. But seriously, it takes time to understand a man or woman, and until you take that time, you'll always be in the dark.
