Boo hoo, sob sob.
Let me ask you this, mike....
What have you personally done to alleviate the poverty you show in that pic?

My guess is absolutely nothing.

We sponsor 3 kids in Africa. Our sponsorship takes care of not only our kids, but their entire family, and to a lesser extent, their community.

What do YOU do?

Organizations such as the UN and the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation are in Africa to eliminate the root cause of this poverty -- them!

Starving Africans are administered injections against their will that causes them to get sick and die. They are being used as human lab rats for evil drug companies to test and experiment upon. They are seen as being sub-human.

They are desperately trying to chemically sterilize millions of people all throughout Africa.

It seems someone is a wee bit sensitive. Picture of a fat rich whitey hits a little too close to home? :D

Worldwide, there is no food shortage. All but three countries in the world produce enough food for every man, woman, and child in that country to provide 2000 Kcal/day. There is a food DISTRIBUTION problem, and that has more to do with politics than anything else. Right here in the U.S., mountains of food go to waste every day, and yet 1 in 5 U.S. children faces "food insecurity" (conservatively - I have heard as high as 1 in 3). In other places, corrupt leaders deliberately withhold food from certain parts of their populaces as a political tool.

Trying to pin the blame on fat Americans does nothing to help, and in fact distracts from the real problems that cause malnutrition.

(Warrior queen, you have my respect and admiration for making a difference. :rose:)

Very well said, LDS! You encapsulated the truth very well.

I would never allow myself to get like that.
Quite apart from the fact that I eat zero fast food, almost no carbs and no fat whatsoever I also excercise every single day.
I abhor fat on people - especially as there really is no excuse for it.
(And this is where I get hammered by all those who claim it's their glands  )

Thanx.
They really are super-cute little kids, and we're also putting money away so they can maybe come here for higher education in the future.
I absolutely believe that education is the key to rising out of poverty.

Tasmania might be a slight downgrade.

Wasn't this same type of image part of a King Of The Hill episode?

How do you know?

Well, I guess that's ok. If you were being truly charitable, you should send them to America. That'll fatten 'em right quick.

I know.

No way in hell would I send them to the USA! Your fees for education are far too much!

In basis, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Except for that which I have place in bold. If you have gotten your figures from any government study, then they have lied to you.

The survey taken to produce those number included this question, which they based the claim above on.

"Has your child been hungry, at any time, in the past week? month? year?"

And of course most parents have heard their child claim they were hungry. Didn't matter that the family was wealth or poor but making it, if they answered yes to that question, they were included in the group of "food insecurity".

How your government thinks. Amazing.

That's where people get the 1 in 3. The 1 in 5 number is based on a definition of food insecurity as being at risk of not receiving one's recommended daily intakes of all nutrients. Some of that is due to poverty, most is due to people making poor food choices. I should have said "...mountains of healthy food go to waste..." Twinkies live forever. (Paradoxically, if you eat a lot of them, you will not.)

And then again, the problem there lies maybe not in their choice, but what they can afford. It is far cheaper to eat unhealthy than healthy in America. When a McDouble costs a dollar and a piece of fruit costs the same...I can fill my children's hungry bellies with hamburgers that are more filling and satisfying than an apple.

The price structure of food in the world is skewed toward the unhealthy. I won't speculate why, it just is.
