She sure is putting herself out there.....the core constituency she's attracting doesn't seem to be too worried about: her veracity, her integrity, her lack of intellectual curiosity, instability, lack of focus....so, yes, some Dems might want to see her run but I think that she would become more like a George Wallace figure - same posturing, tribal viewpoint, and anti-intellectual attitude. Not a good influence for those who are philosophically opposed to the Dems...the other racist a-holes will love her for those same polarizing attributes.....
It'll be great entertainment to see her supporters, the Palinistas, decked out with loaded firearms, illiterate hand-lettered signs, and white sheets lining the mall parking lots to pay homage and scream about how she's gonna restore the constitution....
Some Repubtards will break ranks and try to oust her but she's pretty popular with the lunatic fringe (the so-called Christian Right) that the Repubtards and Neocons have courted for the past thirty or so years....She could, realistically, be the nominee....
I'd personally love to see how she reacts during a real campaign.....Endless entertainment....Maybe that's what this country needs.......

Unless he pulls a big effing rabbit out of his BVDs soon, he's toast in 2012. In many ways 2009 is a repeat of 1929; Hoover was President, the GOP controlled Congress, the DOW was bouncing back, and then the fools made all the wrong decisions about what to do, and the Democrats captured the House in 1930. It was over for Hoover.

I think you missed the lists going around the Internet showing he's already done more than the previous administration did in their last eight years. The list was really an eye-opener to me. I was waiting for something to happen too--and missing it all.

And if he's alive in 2012, he's the Democratic candidate, JBJ. And if Palin is run against him (which was the construct here), he wins. I fondly remember all of your and Amicus's wildly missed prognostications on the last campaign and election, so I'm delighted to see you make this projection. :D

The notion that there is any comparison to what the GOP and Hoover (their pres) did NOT do in '29 and the proactive stance that Obama has taken is laughable in the extreme: JBJ, you're smarter than that! Don't even go there. Hoover was even a bigger tool than Obama.

I researched the topic thoroughly. The economy in 1930 was rebounding and Hoover/GOP took some awful actions to screw world trade and gold. Things went sour and Democrats were elected in late 1930; the Democrats sat on their hands for 2 years, and Hoover was toast because there was little help for the unemployed. Its all there in the history books, dear.

Your history books may describe a 'rebound' but my research indicates that the infinitesimal growth of the economy in that time span was a result of normal market activity (milk, butter, eggs) and not the result of a 'rebound'.....dear....whether the Dems sat on their hands is subject to speculation but Hoover's inaction and intransigence are not....he was a clown and a tool of forces that wouldn't adapt to the mess they'd made (sound familiar???) The Dems were against help for the umemployed? Sure, you and Rush sell that BS to someone else....

On 1 April 1930 the DOW was 294, 44 points higher than it was 1 October 1928 when American prosperity was golden. But Hoover let the US Treasury have its way and we got deflation, that is the price of residential and commercial real estate dropped like a rock destroying the value of real estate investments. Then we increased import tariffs and UK went off the gold standard to retaliate, suddenly American exports were too expensive to sell overseas. People stopped making investments, banks quit loaning money, business cut employees, and the unemployed stopped buying.

If only it were that simple, my love. The bear market recovery blip you cite was just that: a momentary blip in a long slide.....The effects of the crash in '29 were persistent and pernicious: no recovery was possible without an outside intervention on an unprecedented scale..Which never came....The lack of a government intervention by Hoover and his stooge GOP congress doomed the US economy for years to come....Roosevelt inherited a comatose economy and a situation in Europe (Hoover wasn't much for a foreign policy, either.) - Sound familiar?
My premise, JBJ, is that using a momentary blip of the DOW as an economic gauge during that period of time is even more myopic than it is now....There are other, more reliable indicators to gauge the economy.....TaTa, my dearest......

SweetCheeks, I've read quite a few books, wrote a couple of papers during college and don't need to read anymore on the subject: I just don't cling to nonsensical delusions about the cause and effect of the crash; nor do I cite nonsensical data to support my claims: Hoover was a tool of the robber barons and could have cared less about the plight of the American people....that's a fact, jack...you need some education if you don't or won't understand that.....
You can keep on revising history but the facts do speak to us across the years....can't distort those.....nor can ya cite a market blip as a sign of a healthy economy....that's fabrication in the extreme, loverboy.....
I'd recommend a reality check but you're way past that....dig out that gingham smock from the closet and hand letter a sign for when yer Messiah - Sister Sarah - shows up.....
