If this is true, it's a new low for journalism in this country.

The NEW YORK TIMES is looking into the adoption records of the children of Supreme Court Nominee John G. Roberts, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The TIMES has investigative reporter Glen Justice hot on the case to investigate the status of adoption records of Judge Roberts’ two young children, Josie age 5 and Jack age 4, a top source reveals.

Judge Roberts and his wife Jane adopted the children when they each were infants.

Both children were adopted from Latin America.

A TIMES insider claims the look into the adoption papers are part of the paper's "standard background check."

I didn't know that Supreme Court appointees had to pass a New York Times "standard background check".

Roberts’ young son Jack delighted millions of Americans during his father’s Supreme Court nomination announcement ceremony when he wouldn’t stop dancing while the President and his father spoke to a national television audience.

Previously the WASHINGTON POST Style section had published a story criticizing the outfits Mrs. Roberts had them wear at the announcement ceremony.

One top Washington official with knowledge of the NEW YORK TIMES action declared: “Trying to pry into the lives of the Roberts’ family like this is despicable. Children’s lives should be off limits. The TIMES is putting politics over fundamental decency.

What purpose does this serve? Can anyone tell me how this is relevant to his nomination?

It wouldn't be the first time some scandal has been manufactured from some relatively minor paperwork error or family skeleton.

If they can come up with any little thing that can be spun to insinuate that they "bought" the adoption or used his position to bypass normal adoption procedure without bringing down a libel or slander suit they'll use it.

Just the suggestion that the adoptions need to be looked into is enough for some people to start thinking like the red-neck parody I started with.

Clearly you just don't understand. The Times has to have something to investigate because otherwise they might have to investigate Air America's foot-dragging on repaying $875,000 borrowed from the beleaguered Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in The Bronx. The Boys & Girls Club is a non-profit organization with heavy public funding.

Officials at the Air America radio network have repeatedly said they intend to repay the money, but claimed they put those plans on hold because of the city probe. "We're waiting for directions from the investigators on how to proceed," Air America spokeswoman Jamie Horn said this week.

But the Department of Investigation said there is nothing to prevent the radio network from repaying its debt immediately.

"DOI has done nothing and given no instruction preventing payment of money owed to Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club. Any statements to the contrary are inaccurate," said DOI spokesman Keith Schwam.

Now for the juicy part.
Martta Rose, a spokeswoman for Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, said the agency worked out a two-year repayment plan with Air America and expects to begin receiving the first installments next month. Of course, in the meantime, the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club is shut down and can only expect to partially resume services to the poor children in the Bronx.

A man who was in a position of financial control at both Air America and Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club made the loans, without permisison from the Board of Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club.

Did I mention that Air America is a liberal organization?
