"Karen, you were great tonight!"

I looked over at my manager, Jerry, and gave him a smile of acknowledgement. I could've done the crappiest job ever and he would have still said I sounded wonderful.

As I stepped off stage and headed back to my dressing room, I thought of my life before all the fame.

Ordinary.

Dull.

Normal.

And now that I am famous? Life is great! Wonderful! Exciting!

Yet, what I wouldn't give to have that ordinary life back. Even if just for a second!

I was known by a lot of people, I had a lot of fans. But despite all this, I was lonely. I had no real friends..oh sure I had 'friends' but they weren't friends I could confide in, couldn't have a real heart to heart with them..

But I couldn't linger too long on my own thoughts. There was an after party I had to make an appearance at, and although I didn't want to, I knew it was what the public wanted. The only thing that excited me about this party was that I was going to be driving myself for once!

Sure, it didn't seem like a big deal to the ordinary person but for me, it was a huge deal...

Damn, the rain was coming down hard and my wipers were going full blast. People in this city didn't know how to drive a damn and I was relieved when I finally got out of the city and headed up between the steep mountain terrain and through the winding roads.

The radio was blasting a pop song and although I was tempted to sing along, I felt I needed to concentrate on the road.

The ringing of my cell phone interrupted my thoughts and concentration. But I knew it was Jerry calling to see what was taking me so long. As I reached out to grab the phone, the car spun and I screamed.. it all happened so fast and before I could let out a second scream, a pain hit me in the side of the head and all went black......

John was just finishing work at his second job. He worked his ass off. During the day he worked construction. It was a good paying job, and he was able to save a lot of money. At night he worked as a bartender. It wasn't because he had to, but he got tired of sitting around doing nothing at night. So, he took the bartending job. The bar he worked at was across the mountain from his house, but the money he earned, and the people he met, made the time traveling to the job worth it.

As he left work, the sky opened up. It started to pour. He hated this drive in the rain. People had trouble driving in the mountains when the weather was good, but they were really bad when it rained. He took his time. He was in no hurry. Fortunately, the bar had been slow tonight, so, he was able to leave early. The other bartender offered to close.

As John went around the bend, his headlights shined on something. He wasn't sure what it was at first, but then he realized it was a car. The car was nestled against the rocks at the side of the mountain. He pulled his car over near the crashed car. He put his flashers on and got out to check things out. When he got to the car, he saw a woman inside. He pulled the door open and checked on her. "Hello miss. Hello. Are you okay? D you want me to call an ambulance?" He didn't wait for an answer. He called 911. While he waited for the ambulance, he tried to keep the woman calm. He knew that she shouldn't move until she had been checked out. He made small talk with her while they waited...asking her her name, what she did, where she was from.
