A muse with bad timing?

I woke up today with the premise for a story running through my brain. The only problem, is that this story idea was obviously a month or two late in arriving, because it's a perfect premise for a hallowen story. Unfortunately, I'll have forgotten it by the time next year's halloween contest comes aroung. :(

How often do you get a story idea that would be perfect for a contest or holiday theme when it's too late (or way too early) to actually use it?

(For those who are curious, the idea was for a story named "Dead Women's Clothes" about a woman who is "possessed" by the previous owners of clothes bought at a thrift shop -- or at least possessed by their libidos.)

Why don't you write it and save it for next halloween Weird Harold?

I don't often get themed Ideas, although whilst talking dirty to hubby the other night I did come across the perfect idea for a christmas story. Good timing really, as I am just coming to the end of my latest tale and by the time i write up my christmas idea, it will be christmas*L*

It must be bloody annoying to get a miss-timed story though!

If I write it, it will probably turn into a series for the Mind Control category.

It's not a particularly "themed idea" actually, although it would adapt well to a halloween theme. It's just maddening that I didn't have any ideas that could be adapted for a holiday theme until after the holiday passed.

However, I probably Won't write it because I've already got five stories stalled because they don't want to come out right. So anyone who wants to pursue the idea is welcome to it -- the premise isn't exactly unique, BTW. There are a couple of existing stories here about the "clothes make the man/woman."

Harold: Exactly the same happened to me last year. I thought of a brilliant Halloween story just as the competition ended. "Never mind," thought I, "I'll write it anyway."

A year on and it still wasn't finished in time for the Halloween contest. Maybe next year...

This is actually perfect for printed material, since they need material ahead of schedule according to there lead time, but the time you've written it, it's ready to send out.

btw, anybody know of any good print markets for 'erotica' or porn?

Great idea....had me thinking earlier. I came up with all kinds of naughty scenarios. Give me six months, I might as for permission to use this idea. Don't have time to write at the moment...

Permission was granted for anyone to use it in my second post.

Even if I eventually use the idea, your rendition will be different from mine anyway.

This might be a good premise for a chain story for next year's survivor contestants if they want to use it.

There's some German word that literally means "Stairway words". It's used to describe those clever things you finally think to say to someone when you're already heading down the stairs and it's too late to use them. That's what I think this is.

Sometimes when I'm trying to come up with a specific idea like this, it's like I've got a lid on my mind holding everything in. As soon as the pressure to come up with something is gone, the pressure disappears and all these ideas just come bubbling out. It's the same kind of thing when you can't come up with a word or a name no matter how hard you think of it, but as soon as you stop thinking, there it is.

A good point; it'spossible to try too hard sometimes so that you lock yourself into indecisiveness.

However, I had no intention of writing a hallowen story (or starting any new stories at this time) so it makes the timing even that much more out of synch. ;) My muse refuses to concentrate on the unfinished stories and keeps dropping these interesting ideas on me when I don't need and don't want them.
