A relative of mine mentioned they would love to have a how-to book of the way things used to be done. You know: soap recipes, oil recipes, knot tying, stain tips for laundry, fire starting, repair jobs, etc. I guess sort of like an old house-wives bible/manual (or one for men)? Does anyone know any names or what I should "google" to get names of books like this?

I know you could find any of these recipes on your own (by googling homemade soap, for example) but this person wants them in a book and I'm sure there will be helpful hints this person didn't even know about.
Thanks in advance!!

Try looking for "homesteading books" or "self-sufficient living". Army field manuals might help, too. Check out the Foxfire books, too.

Look in old book stores for older books. Of course you could always google the recipes too.

I actually think I have one in my garage, I will look for it tomorrow and give you the title. This kind of thing has always fascinated me. I've made soap and candles and cleaning and laundry products.

Storeys Country Wisdom.. I HIGHLY suggest it.. It's a huge book but it covers absolutely everything.
