A Gallery: Delights & Splendors of Cascadia

The blossoms are too beautiful to ignore at this time of year. I have to stay a bit further back from flowers to avoid sneezing :D. Most blossom, however, doesn't have that effect on me, so I can get close to it and appreciate it :).

What or where is Cascadia?

Nestled between the North Pacific Ocean and the Continental Divide
of the North American Continent lays a complex region formed from
ongoing geological events and continuous climatic factors.
Large mountain ranges reach into the skies to catch the moisture of the Pacific on its way east.
The Columbia, the Willamette and the Frazer rivers and the complex watersheds run and cut through
the basalt and granite mountains of the region providing rich alluvium soil and riparian habitat.
All the regional rivers, streams and creeks eventually flow back to the Pacific.
It is a region rich in biodiversity, history and cultures.

The Painted Hills, Oregon

Vastly different climate today then the lush, humid floodplain millions of years ago. The multi colors are remnants of vegetative matter as well as sedimentary rock.

I love this area. The painted hills is one of three sections of a national monument called John Day Fossil Beds. It is vast and beautiful and there are stunning vistas, great hikes and amazing biodiversity. Go see it for yourself.

I knew you would know this area.....It's on my list to visit, I like content with pictures. So many times Lit threads have photos and posts without the story.

Maybe I should say more with the pics I post here?
I've felt a little shy of it wanting the images to speak for themselves... But these places.... I know them all by heart.
I was trying to explain to someone how I feel about Cascadia....that this place, while I was not born here, it is where I belong, it is my dirt. The place that feeds me and where I thrive.
I know it's almost too precious, too adorable how much I love Cascadia... but it is just the honest truth. I can't help myself.

I never ever get tired of seeing Mt Rainier.
I would post a picture of this most beautiful mountain every single day, except I fear it would bore the hell out of everyone else.

I LOVE this mountain.
In this region, when you can see it on the horizon, we say
"the mountain is out"

I never tire of its many moods... its many colors... the way the snow looks different at different times of year.
The way it is wreathed in clouds at times and other times clear.

Those colours are simply stunning. I love colour and to see something like that must be inspiring as well as spectacular :).

The first time I flew over Mt. Rainier I was just stunned. It's just sooooooo huge compared to everything else around it. Beautiful sight. ;)
