Over the centuries, folk art has had one meaningful aspect: it's free. It wouldn't be folk art if it wasn't given to someone such as a friend, family member, or neighbor without the love that goes into it when making each line, curve, and shape. I have become a folk artist, and I have one person to thank. I made a piece for her that was completely, and I mean completely different from anything else I've created. I made it with her inspiration in mind, her ideas and stories; parts of her life. I made it so unique, that only she would appreciate the full amount of herself within it.
Now I thank her because I've found a new element in creating art that I've never possessed before because I made something for her that will give life to all other pieces. I'm proud and humbled to tell you all that the piece I made for her spawned a creative streak of the likes I've never experienced before, and that I've been booked for an art show in my downtown area for the first time in my young life, and I owe it all to one woman. I think she's turned my life a bit towards a light; pushed me in the direction of the path I could never see before, and I will always be in awe of her power.
Thank you, dear friend. You've helped me find what I didn't know existed.
