Welcome my friend, to the town Saison, a large town in the south of the human country Neperia. The city is located at the Great Ocean where pirates control the waters. Fishers are mostly left alone, but at times the pirates try to invade the city and rob every coin, steal every item of worth and kidnap any girl for ransom or pleasure.

Sadly the lands of Neperia are not much saver. Knights and soldiers try to keep the roads secure but there are lots of thieves around. Not to mention the dangerous beasts and creatures that walk around in the forests. And the nights... well there are not many that want to risk facing a vampire or werewolf and everyone knows those are around during the nights.

Neperia is ruled by men, women are less important and mostly suited to help their husbands or parents. Most professions are only for men and of course magic is only allowed to be used by men. Women with magic are considered dangerous and in some places end up burning on a stake.

But let's not worry about such boring details about stuff that most likely will not play any role in this tale. No this story begins happy as somewhere in the city a birthday is to be celebrated. The 18th birthday of a local girl..

Katie

Katie looked at herself in the mirror as she stood naked in front of it, holding a dress in each hand as she tried to choose. She looked like most of the average human woman around the area, much more curvy than the elf woman. Kaites hair was a very dark brown and came down to the small of her back. Her bright blue eyes shone brightly as she looked at her reflection. She was startled by a knock at her bedroom door and quickly set the dresses down before grabbing a towel and wrapping around herself.
"Come in." She called to whoever was at her door. The door opened and Katie smiled as her friend Garthel stepped into the room.
"Hey birthday girl. Excited to finally be considered a woman?" Garthel said as she moved next to the mirror and picked up both dresses and alternated holding them up to herself.
"Yes I'm very excited. Just can't decide what to wear." She looked at her friend as she examined the dresses. Garthel was actually much older than Katie was but since she was an elf she looked around the same age.
"I think you should go with this one." Garthel said holding a knee length red dress to her.
"Good choice." Katie smiled as she took the dress from her friend and let the towel fall away before starting to put the dress on.
Once the dress was on she looked at herself in the mirror again and smiled before the two friends turned to leave her room and go to her birthday party.

"Ahh, look at that beautiful niece of mine." Her uncle Harold exclaimed when she came into view. He was a large figure, a small giant according to some, with a full dark red beard and a bit lighter red on his head. He wrapped his big arms around her and hugged her tight. After squashing all her bones, he took some distance again and looked at her. "If only your parents were around to see you today. You look so beautiful today." He spoke with a smile and then tried to hide the sad sigh that followed his smile.

"Alright, your aunt and me have invited some possible wedding candidates. As you know now that you are 18, you have to get married quickly..." Her uncle spoke and then let out a loud laugh. "If only you could see your face... Of course we won't force you to marry. At least not till you are 19." He kept laughing and guided her to the others.

Katie smiled as her uncle pulled her into a hug and squeezed her so tight age thought she might pop. She loved her uncle but she missed her parents very much. As he released her from the hug she stepped back from him as Garthel walked up next to her.
"Thank you uncle." Katie said to him. Her smile faltered a bit as he mentioned the guests he was inviting. She knew it was tradition but she was nervous about it. She had some friends that had been marries to some less than nice men.
"I'm looking forward to meeting them." She said as she put on a fake smile. She took Garthels hand as she followed her uncle as he lead them.

Her uncle smiled and placed his large hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry Kat. We won't force you to marry you someone you don't like. You can marry who ever you want, when ever you want." He promised her. "But we wouldn't be very good caretakers if we didn't at least introduce you to some men. But with your beauty... I wouldn't be surprised if the prince himself came for your hand."

He opened the door leading to the main room and there more of her family members and friends were present. The only guys present were already friends of her, so her aunt and uncle had been very kind to her this year. Soon everyone flocked around her to congratulate her with her 18th birthday.

Katie relaxed a bit as her uncle reassured her that she wouldn't be forced to marry someone. She felt her cheeks flush a bit as he complimented her looks.
"You're too kind." She looked up at him and skilled as he opened the door. Katie's smile grew as she saw only friends and family in the room. All of the guys were already very good friends with her. Garthel gave her hand a squeeze before she moved off to talk to some of the other guys.
Katie stood and greeted all of her friends and family. Katie was enjoying herself so much that she had no idea what the future had in store for her.

Her family and friends all were happy to see her. At times Katie noticed a glance from a few of the guys that seemed to realize that no longer she was 'just' a friend, but now was a woman as well. But it kept to glances only and those were mostly hidden.

As the party progressed, Katie helped herself to a glass of elven wine. Perhaps a bit too expensive, but her aunt and uncle were very aware this was a special day so they had spend a little more coins than was wise. As Katie brought the glass to her lips however, the wine was boiling hot. Luckily her lips only touched a little of it, but still it was very unpleasant.

It wasn't very clear who was responsible for this prank as no one around seemed to have been paying special attention.
