The time: The near future, where the human race has gone too far in trying to improve itself

The place: An outpost, seated in the center of the Atlantic ocean, where the testing of the newest proto type can be done without interuption or prying eyes.

The setting: A cyborg comes to life, his altered programming and genetic structure making him a unique and dangerous creation. His "creator" is a gourgeous but career driven young woman who is determined to make a name for herself in the scientific community, despite the costs.

G.E.M., short for Genetically Engineered Mutant, is the product of combined DNA alterations and mechanical "improvements", his abilities not quite fully known, his limitations not yet defined.

Needed: One willing female writer, to be the tester and "victim" of her own creation.

Lace Eden

(Hope you like my character for Your story)

G.E.M., short for Genetically Engineered Mutant

Professor Lace Eden sat at her desk, head down. She had fallen asleep, she was so exhausted, so drained, that she had been unable to keep her eyes open. Whispy tendrils of her midnight black hair, pulled back from her face, tickled forward as she slept, gently veiling her face behind that darkness. Her breathing slow and steady, she even too tired to dream...

G.E.M... Genetically Engineered Mutant

Many called her Dr. Frankenstein, and she HATED that. She was trying to create life, yes, mutated life. Mutants, Cyborgs, to be used as Soldiers in wars, to be the protectors of the human race. Able to withstand great pain, disease resistant, even aging resistant. She would do this. She would create, she would be the next... Eden... She was determined to be..

But right now, she was nothing more than a human female, exhausted and sleeping, alone on the island that had been designated the research area for this... creation. Only a chosen few knew she was there, to everyone else, she was non-existant. But after this, her name would be whispered, and shouted by every nation, every leader, every scientist in the world.

Professor Lace Eden

23 years old

Graduated high school at the tender age of 15

Graduated college at 19

Began working for the government at the age of 21.

For 2 years she has been working on the G.E.M project, able to gain the top secret clearance for this based on her intelligence, as well as her family name. Her father, Doctor Evan Eden, the former President of the free world. Eden had alot to live up to.

As she slept, she did not realize that her latest expirement, which she called Cain500.. had woken up, and discovered Himself. He was alive, breathing, and awake..

OOC: Excellent character, Erotic picture, Thank You for joining me :rose:

IC:

"Cain" lay flat quietly on the beds narrow surface and surveyed the room around him with blue, blue eyes. He was restrained, his six foot figure devoid of clothes, an array of needles and sensors protruding from his body connected to a bank of instruments that hummed and whirred dutifully and effeciently.

Already the artificial intelligence imbedded inside his primary processing unit had identified the room and it's contents, allowing him an eighty seven percent chance of correct deduction that he was in some type of laboratory as well as being the only "patient" in the facility.

His sense of hearing confirmed it as well, the only sounds emanating from the room and the others around it being mechanical, with the exception of one single source.

A figure that at present sat hunched over the desk in front of her,the only clue she was alive being the slow rise and fall of her shoulders.

PROTOCOL 1:

"Cain's" A.I. informed him was necessary. The figure at the desk had been identified as a human female, and was in an unknown condition.

"Protocol 1:" Demanded he identify that condition immediately and come to her aid if needed.

The only barrier to that goal was two fold, the first being the monitors and probes he currently wore, the second being the bands that held him to the beds surface.

:BONDS CONSIST OF 50 PERCENT MIX OF WOVEN STEEL AND 50 PERCENT KEVLAR, CURRENT POWER LEVEL TOO LOW TO OVERCOME,MENTAL LINK HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED BY HUMAN FEMALE, SUGGEST AUDIO CONTACT:

"Human female, are you functioning correctly?"

"Cain" spoke his first words, the irony of them being in the service of the human race being missed by him, and though the woman stirred she didn't answer.

"Human female, please reply He repeated again in a louder baritone voice. Are you functioning correctly? PLEASE REPLY.

"Human female, are you functioning correctly?"

Lace murmered something, answering the persistant voice in her dreams. Why was He asking her something so.. odd? Functioning correctly? Now what the heck did that mean? Sounded like He was talking to a machine... "Terminator are you functioning correctly?" she giggled in her mind, Terminator had been one of her favorite movies. She did not wake up, not yet, slipping easily back into the depths of her sleep, her mind quiet once more...

"Human female, please reply... Are you functioning correctly? PLEASE REPLY."

This time she woke up, blinking, for a moment lost as to where she was. She sat upright, a bit too quickly, the room spinning wildly around her, an array of flashing and pulsating lights, the melody of beeps and whirrs, and in the middle was a voice, a loud, deep, distinctly male.. voice. Male? At the moment there was no one on the island with her. This was her baby, her experiment, her fame, her fortune. Help only came if she called and asked for it, and that was few and far between.. Sooooo.. WHO was this male voice???

"Who the fu........" Climbing to her feet, a quick brush of fingers clearing her face and eyes of the whispy tendrils that had fallen forward. She stopped, mid step, and mid sentance.. Staring.

Cain... Cain500.. was talking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talking in HUMAN WORDS, with the same inflection, the same tone, that any human male would.

"Cain?" she questioned, her voice shaking, she could not contain the excitement, she wanted to jump up and down and scream, she wanted to call her supierors and snub her nose at them, they thinking she NEVER could Frankenstein life this way, NEVER. Yet here, here was PROOF, and He was talking..

"Functioning properly? Oh.. yes.. yes Cain.. I am fine."

Lace realized that it had been His voice she had heard in her sleep.

"The more important question is, how are You? Are You functioning properly??"

Lace had thought, dreamed, planned for, this moment since this whole expirement began. Yet now that it was.. happening.. she was at a loss as to what to do, still in shock as the subject spoke to her..

"Functioning properly? Oh.. yes.. yes Cain.. I am fine

The more important question is, how are You? Are You functioning properly??"

"Cain" listened to the womans words and compared them to the accelerated hearbeat and breathing he was picking up from her body, each contradicted the other and yet he had no reason to disbelieve his programming or her.

At least not for the time being.

"It is good and logical that you are functioning properly. As for myself I am presently functioning at only 25 percent of my capacity and only able to scan my immediate surroundings. It will take 22 minutes before I am at the nominal level of 66 percent. I assume by my programing and your immediate presence you are my "creator" then?"

Still bound he eyed the woman quietly, patiently waiting for her answer as she stood above him and let her eyes roam over him, a move he assumed was to visually verify he was functioning correctly.

"Does everything appear proper, I have yet to be tested I realize but my onboard diagnostics assure everything is as you've programmed?"

~ Lace was still in a state of shock, Cain was answering her, just as any normal human would. If she were to unplug all the wires and electrodes and the like that were still attached to Him and let Him up, none would ever know he was anything other than human. But therein lied the questions. She had many tests she needed to run.. strength, health, intelligence.. among them. Just the fact that He was talking to her at least let her know that indeed He was intelligent..

Creator?? For a moment Lace stepped back. She indeed had created Him.. Blinking, she nodded. "Yes, You could say that." She already was slipping into Doctor/Professor mode, circling around Him, checking connections, readings.. He was already at 25% of His capacity, His capabilities.. and increasing quickly... This was a good sign.. He would be at 66% within 20 minutes or so, that mean that in under an hour, He would be at 100%. That was amazing...

"Does everything appear proper, I have yet to be tested I realize but my onboard diagnostics assure everything is as you've programmed?"

"Everything indeed appears very proper, once you are at nominal or even optimal cacpacity, we can do some tests, Cain. Oh and You can call me Doctor Eden.. Lace Eden"

As she spoke, she tweaked a couple of dials, and taking a probe in hand, she touched the soul of His foot, wanting to see His reaction as the shock traveled thru Him.. would He feel pain?? ~

Again Cain contemplated the Doctor's words and her contradicting actions.

She told him "once you are at nominal or even optimal cacpacity, we can do some tests", and yet she already had an another instrument turned on and a probe attached to his body.

And yet he realized he could, and would, do nothing.

First he was unable to remove the minor bindings that held him, and second the current programming he operated under prevented him as well.

"Doctor Eden Lace Eden"

He began by addressing her as instructed.

"At the current voltage and amperage your instrument will begin to "back-feed" in two minutes-twenty seconds, I suggest you either increase the power, or remove the instrument to protect it and yourself?"

Not an order. Cain was prohibited from ordering any human at this point in time, much less his "creator", but a suggestion in order to protect her.

"How do you feel, Cain?"

Doctor "Eden Lace Eden" asked of him and moved to the instument she was using.

"Feel?"

This time Cain had no answer, and in fact wasn't sure if he fully understood her question, and yet knew she expected an answer.

"I am at 34 percent capacity, and though my programming tells me I have full synoptic capabilities, they are disabled. There fore I am not capable of human emotions or the full understanding of them. Is that what you wish to know, Doctor Eden Lace Eden?"

Looking down the length of his body Cain began to find it difficult to fully see the Doctor, as one portion of him began to enlarge and slowly raise it's purple head.

"Is this the purpose of your preemptive test Doctor?"

~ Lace's eyes widened, for a variety of reasons. One, even tho Cain spoke like a human, He still "thought" like a machine. She had to remember that, changing that would be her next priority. The other reason for her ... staring.. was that fact that His body was reacting, even tho perhaps He was not feeling it. He was getting a hard on...

"Is this the purpose of your preemptive test Doctor?"

"no.. no, it's Not... and Cain... just call me Lace" She wanted Him to feel.. comfortable.. around her. But then again, does a machine feel comfortable? Lace herself was dealing with a myriad of thoughts, questions, emotions. This was not how she wanted to handle this, not at all...

Stepping back, Lace took a deep breath "forget that.. call me Doctor Eden... " she corrected herself. She was not here to make friends with what she created, she was here to create, test, experiment. Her momentary lapse was obviously because she was still tired.

She shook her head to clear it...

Ok Lace, let's think this thru. Cain is awake, but He Himself has just said that altho He has full synoptic abilities, they are disabled. He felt nothing. The point of all this was to create a Human/machine Symbiote that could feel, that could understand emotions, at least basically. Did she want Him to feel pain, no, not at all. A Soldier that felt pain was useless, were emotions useless? No, she thought that emotions would make them better Soldiers, anger, rage, hate.. just sensations like pain would be useless. What about pleasure??

She shook that from her head.. first things first. She did her preliminary readings, checking the gauges and levels.

Well, all of this was for nothing if she did not activate His synoptic abilities, and turn up His power feed so that He could gain full power a bit faster... it was nothing more than the flip of a switch to activate both of those...

Her eyes again alight upon His hard on... That was unexpected to say the very least... ~

Cain lay quietly and watched the Doctor.

Her preoccupation with his "member" was obvious, though he didn't understand the fascination, but had connected it with her lapses in attention.

Filing it away for further reflection he took the time to scan her vital functions, having little choice but to wait until either the Doctor released him or his power level rose to the point where he remove the bonds himself.

What he did find with the scan was interesting. The differences in her body heat in quite specific areas as well as the fact her heartbeat and breathing levels had risen by 60 percent as well. Again he couldn't determine a plausible reason for the reaction or a connection to any specific occurrence but filed the information.

"Capacity is at nominal level ahead of schedule, Doctor Eden, primary functions able to be tested if you choose."

"Ummmmm, yes, that should be first on our list, shouldn't it?"

Contradictions. The human Doctor was filled with contradictions. Cain continued to watch her and noted a decrease in her heartbeat as she turned back to the instruments.

"My scan of your own functions has suggested you are in need of sustenance, rest or medical attention, Doctor Eden. If this is true it would be logical for you to attend to these needs before we continue, if you wish I am now capable of sustaining a screened and secure perimeter while you do."

“Is that what you want, Cain?”

Her eyes met his own optical units and Cain reflected on the curious ways her face could change so swiftly in the short time since he was activated.

“Want, Doctor? Please clarify “want”. Cain reiterated the confusing meaning of her statement.

“Yes, of course, I am asking if you want for me to “attend” to my needs before we begin your testing?”

“I have no “wants or needs”, my functions are all guided by the three primary laws you have imbedded into the core of my processor.

Cain responded, then added

"1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

It would be the most logical if you attended to your needs, but at this time it would not contradict with the primary law if you choose, Doctor Eden.”

Again Cain watched the Doctors attention wander to his “member” and noted the rapid changes in her body but remained mute, his path of action was her decision at this point, after all she was his creator.

~ Lace thought about those... laws... as Cain recited them...

A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

That would need to be changed. These Cyborg's, the offspring of Cain's creation, the ones that follow, after all the testing is complete, would indeed be used as Soldiers, Warriors, used for battle, for war, for protection. The Cyborg would need to be able to indeed injure, or even kill, a human being. That bit of programming would be easy to change. It was buried deep in the CPU.. but Lace knew where and how to get to it. She had known that small bit of programming would need to be changed at some point, hence she had learned where she needed to do that...

A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law

This would be a bit trickier... part of that program needed to remain intact. He needed to always obey orders given by us.. by humans. But she needed to negate the 2nd part of that. "I'll have to refer to my notes" she absently said to herself...

A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Again, part of the programming needed to remain intact. In order for the Cyborg to be an efficent hunter, killer, soldier, spy, whatever it is called upon to do, it had to be aware of itself, and wish to protect itself in order to stay... alive.. and complete it's mission. But again, the 2nd part of the programming was mute...

Lace had her work cut out for her...

"Cain, I need You to stay where You are, even once You have reached maximum capability."

Lace did not want Him struggling to rise, or trying to free Himself, not at the moment at least. She needed to consult her laptop and send in the programming changes thru the network..

She was feeling more herself now, now that the shock of Cain speaking, coming alive, had worn off. She had done it, she had created life.. a melding of man and machine.. Her name would be.. famous.. more famous than her Father.. "Lace Eden, creator of the Cain series of Cyborgs" she said to herself as she sat down behind the small desk, signing on to her laptop....

It did not take long to network into Cain's CPU.. His *brain* so to speak. She wordlessly snaked her way past His basic programs, delving into the deeper parts of His... thoughts.. Finding the 3 basic rules was not hard, and soon, after a few careful keystrokes, after consulting her notes and looking a few things up on a dual PC next to her, she changed the 3 basic rules...

A robot may injure a human being, thru action, or end the life of said human.

A robot must obey orders given by the robot's Superior, recognized by the robot as being superior, and will obey said orders, as well as still abide by the First Law.

A robot must protect it's own existence, while still obeying the First and Second Law...

Lace knew that this programming could be fine tuned. So she went ahead and sent the change thru the network and.. into Cain.. ~

Cain lay quietly as the changes were made swiftly, then continued to hold motionless as he digested the ramifications of them and what it meant to him.

He was a sentinent being. And unique, as of this moment. His capabilities only limited by his programming and it's restraints.

"I am the FIRST?"

Cain questioned to verify and turned his head to monitor the Doctor as she responded.

"Yes Cain, you are the first and only, and MINE."

Somehow being a possesion clicked a warning that wouldn't have been triggered "before" and Cain paused to consider the meaning of it.

"I am disposable property then?"

He returned in a muted, emotionless tone, making a change in his own programming that wouldn't be obvious unless the good Doctor tried to alter the new basic rules a second time.

"You are my creator AND superior at this time, willl that ever change in the future?"

"Change is the liquid of this world, it keeps everything lubricated and moving forward smoothly"

"That is an affirmitive then, Doctor Eden?"

"Yes Cain, a very positive, absolute affirmitive"

Lace Eden returned with a slow sigh.

"I really need to enable your perceptive and intuition programs, give you a few human qualities that will help you as well as make you more "interesting" while I test you, don't I?"

"That is your decision Doctor Eden"

Cain's reply was instanteous,

"Do you wish me to remain still while you do so, or while you rest?"
