Boy, this guy Day is really something, eh? For those who don't know, Stockwell Day is the leader of the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance Party (CCRAP), though they seem to prefer "Canadian Alliance" these days. They're right-wing.
Anyway. Has anyone been listening to this guy lately? He seems to contradict himself from week to week, changing policies so his party seems more centre-oriented. Example: he recently said that his party would drop the 17% flat tax they proposed for a two level income tax rate (25% for incomes over $100, 000, and 17% for those below). The flat tax idea has previously been a staple of the party's platform, and that of the Reform Party before them, but now they've backed down, claiming it wouldn't be feasible to implement a flat tax until the fifth or so year of a Canadian Alliance Government.
Also, in today's 'Post, there was an article reporting how the CCRAP plans to reduce benefits for Employment Insurance for seasonal workers...days after he comitted to maintaining the current employment plan during a speech in New Brunswick. This, as far as I know, is a rather sticky issue with the Maritimes.
Not that the Liberals are much better. Chrétien STILL hasn't called an election, though other parties are already campaining.
Incidentally, back in September, did anyone else read about how Day rose to the challenge and won a riding in a by-election...without competing with any major parties? I suppose it's not hard to get elected against the likes of, say, the Marijuana Party, and suchlike.
There's no point to this thread. I just want to be grumpy.
