My sweet "Mee-mee" hit 93 today. I called her up and wished her a happy Birthday and told her I loved her. Her mind is wonderful (this was the woman I filmed this summer) but her hearing is beginning to suffer and her legs are weakening.
I wish you could meet her. She is a very friendly and polite (genteel) woman. With a name like Odessa, what would you expect?
She is not a saint (though she loves the New Orleans Saints). She is just an regular person that made it to 93. THAT- is a good thing. She is still involved with "mother church" (Catholic's... they never let go)....
She sounded very happy when I talked to her on the phone today. Many cards and phone calls. I don't know why it strikes me so....
....because she is no "extrordinary" woman. (My mom and her siblings bust the myths- and Meemee does herself too). She's just a 93 year old woman. Special in the same way that any of us are special.
Imagine yourself at 93 years old. While I don't want to diefy her- I can only hope that I can age as gracefully as she (I doubt it, though).
Yeah, and 20 years ago, one of my neighborhood buddies fell 510 feet to hit death climbing the powerlines. We all did it... until after that night. I hope his folks are all right. That night- hearts got broke.
