In the upper Midwest, the casserole is king! Green bean is the only casserole I dig. I found an old church cookbook from some Minnesotain church. The whole thing was nothing but casseroles. I had to buy it. You never know when a gross casserole will be needed.

I don't even like green beans when they're NOT mixed with a bunch of weird shit.

When I was a kid, my mamaw made me, my brothers, and some of my cousins pick them and then sit on the porch for SEVERAL HOURS, AS OUR CHILDHOODS PASSED US BY, in the HOT SUN just snapping the ends off, peeling the strings to put in one bowl, and then putting the beans in another.

I have like, a pavlovian dog thing. I can eat them, if I have to, and they're canned using a method that removes any connotation from the actual plant. I can't do fresh and even the frozen ones make me gag.

Then she's gonna take that, cover it in bread and some kind of cream or gravy- no, it had to be cream, she doesn't know how to make gravy, I watched her try once- and serve it to us, looking like childhood pain and adult sadness?

The broccoli one was alright but it's hard to fuck up broccoli.

chile relleno casserole, because chile rellenos are too much of a mess on their own. ground beef, corn, green chiles, onions, cheese and egg layered. i don't make many casseroles, but the ones i do get eaten up.

i was with a woman this weekend who feels the need to talk about vomiting when other people are eating. she is a fucking food terrorist. i decided that she feels such guilt about what she puts into her own body that she feels the need to share that negativity with others and make them miserable as well. it was exhausting.
