But when it comes to faith, I've heard a lot of scripture recitations in my day and nothing comes close to Linus's recitation of the introduction to the nativity from Luke. 10/10. Perfect.

What is Christmas without a mass theft? It's barely Christmas at all, if you ask me.

Dick Van Dyke plays Fitzwilliam, AKA Fitzwilly, the loyal butler to eccentric spinster Victoria Woodhouse, played by Edith Evans. Miss Vicki lives her life completely unaware that her entire inheritance from her father was $180.00. Fitzwilly is a criminal mastermind, and has been keeping up the house by a series of complex thefts and swindles, including running a fake charity called " St. Dismas," the "good thief" who was crucified beside Jesus. All of the money they steal, Miss Vicki gives away through charity, so it is all in a good cause. Then Miss Vicki hires a new assistant, played by Agent 99 herself, Barbara Feldon, and things get complex for our butler. Highjinx ensue, as they often do, which culminates in the need for one last score, burglarizing Gimbels Department Store on Christmas Eve to raise $75,000 (roughly $700,000 today) needed by the end of the year.

It is a sweet hearted little theft film, with some astounding schemes and set pieces, and Van Dyke is outstanding. Also very young John Williams (credited as "Johnny WIlliams") wrote the score. It would be easy to call this one "love," but honestly, the whole plot is based on the faith the rest of the staff have in the skill and planning of Fitzwilly. So "faith"it is.

This is in my top 3 favorite Rankin Bass movies. It's very pretty. I would say it symbolizes hope but it also symbolizes love. Shout out to Pardon-Me-Pete, the cutest hedgehog ever depicted in media.(Sorry, Sonic.)

I watched this in my grandmothers dining room. And I won’t say I immediately hated it. But I do recall being very confused.

But it did give us Boba Fett. And I think the casts appearance on The Muppet Show made up for this.

I remember when this came out, back when the TV Guide magazines were still a thing. There was an add for it for a couple of weeks, building up, and I was such a Star Wars kid, at ten, that I was at a near boiling point.

And I still remember thinking, "what the fuck in Harvey Korman doing here?" And it went down from there. Lucas learned to keep better control of his product (he was busy working on Empire), but having the Wookies speak without subtitles was all his fault.

The 70s were just...different. So I went with the start of the generation.

I am a sucker for A Christmas Carol. I read it Christmas week, and I love most adaptations. This one has Albert Finney, a favorite actor of mine, as old Eb in a musical adaptation. Finney is at his best, you have Alec Guinness as the Ghost of Jacob Marley, but for me, the crowning performance is Kenneth More as The Ghost of Christmas Present, and his "come in and know me better, man," nails importance of that line. It isn't a perfect film -- the songs are a bit average at best, some characters are cut, and the added on scene in Hell was perhaps ill-advised (and looks very college theater quality). But those do not outweigh the things it does so well. And it does a lot well, being both heartwarming and sweet without forcing those onto you, which is a subtle trick in a Christmas film. It earns its emotions.

"Scrooge," (1970)


"Redemption" is too easy (heh, see what I did there? I am profound!), so I went with "hope," as Scrooge finds his again. (+1 for "hope," for a total of 4)

A unpopular choice for favourite Christmas movie, but I love this film. And of course, I love Bill Murray, the grumpy old sausage...

It's A Christmas Carol, so hope, magic and redemption abound (5 points) - 1988

Pretty sure I'm not going to be taking this choice away from anyone. This is a personal favorite of mine. Yes I know it's a television special, but it is set apart by being almost an hour long so I'll allow it (and this is my thread.)

Look at this list...

Special guest stars: Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Charo, Grace Jones, k.d. lang, Dinah Shore, Little Richard, Cher, the Del Rubio Triplets, Magic Johnson, Princess Zsa Zsa, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, Joan Rivers, and the UCLA Men's Choir.

I was 8 when this came out. I watch it just about every year. Happy memories. I would say this has Magic.
