2024 Republican National Convention Thread

Vance on abortion

“Two wrongs don’t make a right,” he said when asked whether abortion laws should allow for exceptions for rape and incest.

When pressed about whether a woman “should be forced to carry a child to term” after being the victim of rape or incest, Vance said he rejected the premise of the question.

“It’s not whether a woman should be forced to bring a child to term,” he said, but “whether a child should be allowed to live even though the circumstances of that child’s birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to society.”

Given the attempted assassination of President Trump this week, I want to take a moment to address the JD Vance oppo head on with the hopes that people will see JD’s past remarks and his current record as symbolic of what President Trump is trying to accomplish after his near death experience: UNITY Yes,
@JDVance1
did say terrible things about President Trump and he didn’t vote for Trump in 2016. He called Trump Hitler and called Trump supporters idiots. Half the country has done the same and we want to convince those people to vote for Trump in 2024 because we need to heal the nation with TRUTH. JD was a Trump hater blinded by the lies about President Trump, but JD came to his senses and is now a fierce Trump advocate. I have personally gotten to know JD Vance and had him on my show and I can say he is the real deal. Being a leader means admitting when you are wrong. I asked JD privately once how MAGA could trust him given his previous remarks. He didn’t deny what he said, but rather embraced that he was wrong and said he has come to see Donald Trump as the best leader for our nation. I’m a zero bullshit person and so I was very grateful JD owned it when I asked him and I believe him when he says he’s a true Trump ally. As a Senator, JD Vance has proven himself to be one of the few GOP Senators to show up for President Trump when it matters. When Democrats tried taking Trump off the ballot in Colorado, JD was 1 of 3 GOP senators to show up outside of SCOTUS to support Trump.
@LoomerUnleashed
caught it on camera and that day, JD earned my respect for doing what none of his colleagues wanted to do: SHOW UP.It took a former Trump hater to fight for Trump in front of SCOTUS, but GOP Senators who claimed to be with Trump since 2016 didn’t even show up. That really touches me. JD Vance will never be able to erase the nasty things he said about Donald Trump in the past, but his actions in the Senate have shown that he is a true Trump advocate and ally. My hope is that all of the Trump haters who have now seen the light can come together with the Trump loyalists so we can UNIFY our country. I don’t like a lot of what JD has said in the past, but I know he has seen the light and he’s been fighting hard for President Trump. As someone who often ATTACKS ATTACKS ATTACKS Trump’s critics, I am going to look past all of JD’s previous remarks and do all I can to help support the Trump-Vance ticket for the sake of UNITY. I think picking a VP who was once a Trump hater is actually symbolic of President Trump’s mission to UNITE AMERICA.JD Vance has my support. I won’t forget what he has said about President Trump, but I am going to support him because he has admitted he was wrong about Trump and that’s the best we can do. We can admit when we are wrong and strive to do better. I think the campaign should use this messaging as well. What better way to unite the country than to have a former Trump hater on the ticket with Trump as a fierce defender? I actually think it’s a beautiful thing to see JD’s political transformation over the last 8 years and my hope is that the country can transform as well. I hope those of you who are attacking JD Vance can join me in looking forward to the future and giving the Senator full support as he campaigns with President Trump.If I can do it, you can do it! UNITE AMERICA! TRUMP VANCE 2024!

There was no "attempted assassination". Donald Trump isn't even wearing a bandage at the RNC to hide the fact that his ear wasn't wounded.

Great campaign fodder. Like, the best. 👏
He was elected to the Senate in 2022 in a state that Trump carried by about 8 points in 2020. Seems unlikely that Trump supporters will be terribly concerned about things he said and tweeted 8 years ago.

Of course you won't be - you care nothing for facts and reality unless they suit your prejudices. 🙂

I meant for the Dem campaign, to further excite their voters. 😄

Thanks for clarifying what you meant. I’m not sure Democratic voters will be excited to vote for their TBD nominee because Trump’s running mate called him an idiot 8 years ago. But you’re a Democrat so I’ll take your word for it.

Trump was convicted of 34 felonies and was aboard a nefarious individual’s plane 7 times. Trump voters don’t care about anything except that Trump blows a racist dog whistle.

🙄

EARLIER, in another thread, BabyBoobs and "some people" were espousing that it’s all about appealing to the "Independent" voters, the "double-haters", and the "undecided" voters, and that is why President Biden’s ONE bad DEBATE performance and a few gaffes was deadly // disqualifying, but NOW it’s all about “Trump supporters” not being offended by J.D. Vance referring to Trump as “America’s Hitler”, an “idiot”, etc,.

😑

👉 BabyBoobs 🤣

You can be as outraged as you want but that conviction hasn’t changed the dynamics of this race.

I’m not outraged, and thank you for proving my point.
I agree with your point, and I believe the jury did its job as instructed by the judge. Voters don’t care that how hush money payments were categorized or the nuances of obscure NY state laws.

Nor do Trump voters care that he cheated in the 2016 election. Again, Trump voters feverishly support him because he blows a racist dog whistle.

I missed the day's show. The 'wounded warrior' spoke, I suppose. Seeing this thread, I see Vance got picked.

Did anything substantive, like a political platform, emerge? I'm just asking since this is a political forum. It seems no one noted anything political today.

Was trump tempered down? Did they take a moment to acknowledge the dead and wounded? Is any empathy seeping out of the egomaniac?

Heh, Convicted felon Donald J. Trump got pushback from the rightwing "brain trust" this year about the lack of a political platform in 2020. Convicted felon Donald J. Trump's seat-of-the-pants winging it was a main reason most of his inept policies failed.

This year, he's managed to make things worse: His team summoned experts in all fields to "policy meetings" nodded gravely at the appropriate times, and then at the ended summarily discarded every single policy recommendation made by conservative experts and passed out position papers "this is what we're going to do". It was a Potemkin policy agenda, convicted felon Donald J. Trump's team had no intention of listening to anyone other than themselves.

I gather, then, it was just more rants, named Vance VP, cheers, and exited stage left... so people could see his right ear wound?
